i once saw remembering never play a little community hall show while they were on tour here in indiana. and mid set "Angry Pete" or whatever he likes to call his meathead self calls out to the crowd, "so how many people in here smoke cigarettes??" I think in all actuality about 90% of the people raised there hands. He then proceeds to tell them, "well you're all liars to yourselves as well as to me."

Now with that said, for one you've instantly lost any crowd support you just had. Secondly, what the fuck are you talking about??? That comment didn't even make sense. Needless to say, he was laughed at the rest of the evening and I believe his band left right after their set. Some people need to learn how to voice their beliefs in a way that's not gonna piss off everyone in the room. Being "punk rock" or whatever is about getting your beliefs across to people, not showing everyone that you're a complete fucking tool by screaming your beliefs at them.

It kinda makes you wonder what would happen if these bands around today would have been around when the sXe hardcore scene really started up....I think they would have been laughed at, quite a bit.

See there is one huge problem with Pete's angry rant; he was completely juvenile about it. If he wants to express disdain, he could have gone about it in a far more mature and intelligent way. He didn't really give a good reason for his anger. It was more a "fuck shit piss cunt" rant.

The Decoy kid was much classier but still was a jackass.

i hear what you're saying... but ya.. tate's got a point.. pete's just standing up for what he put the last however many months into, and for hardwork to get cut up never rest easy with you at night... but hopefully they use this as fuel to make a better record next time.

After reading the CD review, the article does seem to focus on Angry Pete a little too much. Maybe it's not the focus on the singer that makes the review sound bad, but how personally targeted the review is written. This could just be poor writing skills in full effect.

Either way, writing nasty emails to a reviewer about some album review is one of the dumbest things you could probably do. It's definitely an easy way to rally the troops against you. Of course, the guy's name is Angry Pete, so he is probably Angry quite often.

Amen. I've had mostly great responses from bands I've reviewed, but actually have had worse dealings with PR outlets/labels on that issue. Although fans are still the worst. When I wrote my review of Simple Plan's last album at The Trades (D-, I believe), I got so many incoherent e-mails telling me how they were going to hunt me down and creatively kill me. So then I proceeded to rip Good Charlotte a new one in one of my next reviews. So that was like part 2. Then my Panic! review got a few more...so basically the fans are the ones who could learn a little tact in my opinion. I'm sure bands see enough reviews that if they approach you because they liked it, they must really have liked it, and if they hated it, they must have really hated it. You can't please everyone, though.

Both AP and Decoy are simply webzines, and these are merely reviews, they aren't going to be the most proper things ever, nor are they always going to be good... but the fact that they are OPINIONS should be taken into consideration... so don't get so bent out of shape. If anyone uses a review as their sole basis to think something is good or bad, then they should seriously re-think the way they find "good" music. It just boils down to this: The reviewer and the band member both crossed the line. This isn't Decoy setting out to attack anyone. To act as if it is, is going overboard man. I mean, is AP really trying to attack Craig Owens?? Didn't think so. Lines of respect were crossed... but it's no reason to label a whole entire webzine and ALL of their employs as an attacker. Also, lump all of the reviewers into one, and claiming the page sucks because of this guy's mistake... that sucks man. Sure, I might write for them, but you don't hear me claiming AP sucks because of a shitty review... some of the reviewers here are killer, while some aren't as great. Same with Decoy. Now onto the kids who talk badly about straight edge and the way some people go about getting their views out about straight edge (i.e "pissing off" the entire room of a show by saying something against smoking or drinking... among many other things).
I like to look at this way - look at how many ciggarette and alcohol ads are shoved down the public's throat day after day after day. I, a twentyone (i'll be twentytwo a little bit later this year) year adult, have not had a drink of alcohol since i was about 14 or 15. I enjoy watching the show "The Shield" on FX. Do you know how many beer and alcohol commercials are on during that program alone? I couldn't even tell you, because it's too many to count.
So why is it okay for these companies to shove their product, that can do more harm than helping, down people's throat, but the second a straight edge tells a crowd of people smoking or drinking to basically "fuck off", it's all of sudden wrong?
On top of you can't believe how much crap I've taken from A LOT of indiviual people for not doing drugs, for not smoking, or for not drinking. Or how many times people automatically assume that I drink or even go as far as automatically assume that I do drugs (mostly smoke weed). Why is acceptable in public for that to be the automatic assumption of someone you don't even know?
It's bullshit.
Things like that reasons why I'm straight edge, why I voice my opinion, why I wear straight edge tshirts, etc.etc.

Actually decoy is a great site for news and reviews. Although not as comprehensive as ap.net, they still do a better job of reviewing different genres of music.

More of the population use a knife and fork than drink.
There are people all around who don't drink, even famous people who have never touched alcohol (i.e. Penn from penn & teller).

Remembering Never is horrible. And they are assholes. This on top of the whole Lit incident from before, has made me lose all respect for this band.

Well, for one Lit shouldn't talk shit.
When you talk shit, you basically usually get what you deserve.

But on top of that, do you actually have proof that Remembering Never actually did it?
Did you see them do it? Do you have pictures?

They never took claim for it, so just as much as that doesn't mean they really didn't do it - it also doesn't mean they did it.

So that makes that first point null and void.

Assuming people eat with a knife and fork is EXTREMELY different than assuming people drink.
More of the population use a knife and fork than drink.
There are people all around who don't drink, even famous people who have never touched alcohol (i.e. Penn from penn & teller).

It pisses me off when people assume that I drink. "Have a little too much too drink this weekend?", "Gonna go watch the game and sip back some beers?", etc.etc. Just a few questions and statements I've heard from people.
And i think it's bullshit to just assume people drink.

And if you wanna stick to your above point, that the majority people of legal age drink - then you might as well say that the majority of people who drink, get wasted.
A lot of people drink TO get wasted.

My impression of what Remembering Never has said about drinking and smoking, they may as well be calling me an idiot for drinking. I don't smoke, and I find it appalling, but I don't lecture people on it either.

If you're getting all worked up about people making comments about you drinking, well shit, I guess it's a good thing you don't drink. You'd definitely be an even less agreeable person if you did.

Outside of alcoholics, no one who, every time they touch a bottle, gets wasted. Yes, there are times when we like to get wasted, but most times it's just nice to have a beer or a wine.

I'm not attacking you for what you do. I don't think it's stupid that you don't drink, and I would in no way call you out on that. But I know a lot of straight edge kids who won't even associate with people that don't fit their norm that they just look like elitist assholes. If you can't enjoy yourself because people around you are drinking, well then you're gonna have one hell of a lonely life, and I hope you can get over it.

One, remembering never has never called out anyone or called them for an idiot for doing whatever it is that they do with their life. But they are a vegan and a straight edge band. That is what they are about. Of course they're gonna talk about, and sing about. Just like a band that is all about drinking, they sing about it as well. Just like a band who believes in god, they sing and preach it at shows. etc etc. The list could go on. If that is what your band is about, it's what you're gonna talk about and say at shows and so forth.

Now as far as your comment, about a lot of straight edge kids you know who don't associate with those who drink or do drugs or smoke, that goes both ways. Because i know A LOT of kids who drink and smoke weed and don't associate with straight edge kids or even kids that don't drink/smoke but don't claim edge. Instead these kids will only associate with them, in the hope to make them "sellout" their beliefs.

And I don't get all "worked up" about people commenting about me drinking. It just bothers me, a lot. I will always forget about it when the person walks away basically, but in the back of my mind - when people assume one thing about a person, it makes them look stupid. People shouldn't assume anything, question everything instead. And don't be surprised by your answers. If we could assume everything, only search muslims before getting on a plane, lock up all blacks for the crimes they'll committ, etcetc. Get what i'm saying? Assuming is stupid?

And I only said the thing about people getting wasted over people just enjoying a beer, because of your reference to the "majority" of those over 21, do drink. That's another assumption and I'm sure you have no real facts to back it up, and if you wanted to throw out wild guesses from your personal experiences (where i guess that info comes from). Then from my personal experience, people who drink - do it either to get wasted or get wasted in the end.
But i know, on the other hand, know better. I know not everyone is out getting wasted all the time. I know there are a lot of people who do. But I know there are also a lot of people who drink small amounts or just even just socially.
