Anyone else absolutely love this band? Seems that whether you're a Christian or not there are atleast a few fans on here, besides, David Crowder has some of the best hair ever:

I've actually not had the chance to listen to Remedy yet, but I love A Collision. I just saw them this past weekend and I'd definately rank them in the top 5 bands I've seen live. Especially when they bust out the banjo and play "I Saw The Light"
So excellent.

im probably biased against remedy because i liked illuminate and a collision so much.
david crowder is amazing because he experiments with different things. he had that one techno remix album sushi and sunsets haha. and then the bluegrass b collision. i respect him because he goes back to his hometown church and still leads worship there. mmm

haha ive met several atheist fans. they have gotten some mainstream press for a worship band and the fact that he covered a sufjan stevens song and actually mixes up things with music from cd to cd people actually like him. ive never met another worship band that had so many "nonchristians" listen and like.

I will admit to generally enjoying their more lyrically ambiguous songs such as You Are My Joy and Rescue is Coming, but yeah, A Collision is brilliant. One of the few leftovers from my Christian days haha.

I don't think any of them really post anymore; it is sad. I haven't been in the chat thread in ages as every time I go in it's generally young kids talking about things of no interest to me. I love being 18 and calling people young kids haha.

Definitely Illuminate. It has some classic David Crowder jams like "Oh Praise Him (All This For a King)" and "No One Like You." After that, might as well step forward with Remedy, and try to get their new one when it comes out September 22.

Yep. I'm pumped. Like most of this site, I'm a fan of Brand New, lol, and they also have a new CD coming out on September 22... so that's going to be a great day for me.
I have a special place in my heart for "No One Like You" because worship teams at a summer church camp I go to always play it.

Yeah true, it's a fun one. I have sung it many times myself. 'Here is Our King' is also great for that kind of thing. It was written for that purpose, and the 'Majesty...Finally' part is great to sing live. The best part about DCB is all the OTHER stuff they do compared to most CCM bands which only write songs like their 'singles'.

I don't really care for the typical worship stuff like No One Like You. For tracks off Illuminate, Stars and Deliver Me are my two favourite tracks.
I hope their new album improves off Remedy, which I simply didn't care for.

Really? It's not better than Illuminate or A Collision, but I thought it was pretty solid. I love 'The Glory of it All', 'O for a thousand Tongues to Sing', and 'Surely We Can Change'.

I love Brand New, but I most certainly agree with this statement. (Luckily, I preordered Daisy, so I'll get it before the 22nd and be able to get my fill of that before I pick up Church Music and fall in love with that.) Unmap by Volcano Choir (featuring Justin Vernon from Bon Iver) comes out that day, too. Should be a great day.

I'll have to check out Volcano Choir, I didn't know Justin was in that band. Did they post the picture of the shirt that comes with the Brand New pre-order? If I like the shirt I will pre-order the record for sure.
While almost no one on this site will enjoy Pillar, I really really liked their last album for what it was. I know they lost some members. If this was like 4 years ago, Pillar would be the only band on the map on this release date lol

Yeah, Volcano Choir is a collaboration between Justin and Collections of Colonies of Bees. I love Justin's vocals, so it should be sweet, though it'll lack the charm of For Emma, Forever Ago. The Brand New shirt is a black shirt with the album artwork real large on it.
I just can't take Pillar seriously anymore (though, in retrospect, I wonder why I ever did, lol). I still jam to "Fireproof" occasionally for nostalgia, and I like some songs on Where Do We Go From Here, but they really went downhill after that; they started as a watered down P.O.D., so that's not a good thing. I saw them at Purple Door and got bored really fast. The single from the new album sucks, and they look so stupid now without Rob's hat and with that lame hairstyle he has going.

Ahh so I saw this and decided I needed to sign up just to talk about Crowder Band. Funny thing is, and I lie not, it's been this way for years, when people have asked me who my favorite band was, I always responded, depends on the mood, but it comes down to two. And those bands have been Brand New and David Crowder Band. Thus when it was announced that they both had the same release date I freaked.
Anyways about Crowder Band, I'm suprised you guys are giving so much credit to Illumination. I feel like it's the "your favorite weapon" (well alongside "can you hear us") of Crowder. I just don't think its that great. Sunsets and Sushi is where the band started hitting its stride, and then of course A Collision just crushed everything the worship scene has ever done. B Collision was a lot of fun, and i love the rendition of a beautiful collision and everybody wants to go to heaven on there. I agree that Rememdy wasn't amazing, but I thought it was still very good, much better than Illuminate anyways.
Either way, I think they are going to nail it on this new album. I like How he loves a lot, and Crowder says that its just the radio mix, that the album version is better. I also have a gut feeling that the fact that this album is called "Church Music" is going to be at a contrast with what you actually hear. Many people complained (i dont understand why) that A Collision wasn't actually music you played in church. And I think that Crowder is kind of playing off of that, and once again releasing an album that strays away from the Church norm. Much like how I doubt daisy sounds anything like daisys.
Anyways, I am frustrated that you have to order that 35 dollar collection for the vinyl, thats a bit steep when all I want is the lp. I don't have a vinyl collection, but want to start it with Daisy and Church Music.
Edit: And I'm sorry to say it, but "No one Like you" sucks. For people who have only heard that song by them, I'm sorry. If it weren't so annoying it would just be boring.

I've seen them twice. They played it both times, of course. It's just not really a good song. But I don't like their other songs that sound like that either. For instance the weakest track on A Collision would be We win in my opinion, and the weakest on Remedy is we won't be quiet. Anyways to each his own, but I've seen them live, and I'm pretty sure I enjoy life.

No way. DCB doesn't have anything as juvenile and unoriginal as YFW to even begin the comparison. Illuminate has a few worship ready songs, but the album is great, certainly DCB's second best ('How Great', 'Stars', 'Deliver Me', 'Intoxicating'). You gave praise to Sunsets and Sushi, which is nothing but different versions of songs from Illuminate. Of course, if any record was going to be their growing into being a band record, it would be their debut. Even that is mostly solid, though.

I'm listening to the glorious unseen right now, but i feel like it's a bit cheesy compared to Crowders. I don't know, the egg shakers and the cymbal crescendos, are just so typical Christian i feel like. The whole reason I enjoy Crowder is because it's different. Besides, Crowder can build a song to a fever pitch before it explodes like no other band I know. The build in tension they are able to create in some songs is almost nerve racking. I feel like Crowders how he loves, really goes somewhere, where as glorious unseen kind of sounds the same through out. It's not bad, mind you, i just don't like it as much.
As for my praising Sunsets and Sushi, yeah it was basically a remixed Illuminate, but the songs had a great feel and vibe to them, at the core they were the same songs, but the compositions were much more imaginative, and less straight forward "Christian" pop.
Also someone, asked about a Church Music pre-order. They're doing a big preorder deal with a Vinyl, CD, and download code, and then a bunch of other goodies or something, for 35 bucks... imo, wayyyy too much stuff. All I want is the vinyl and the download code. Anyways, the only way to get the vinyl is to preorder that package.
Anyways, here is the original guy that wrote how he loves. I don't particularly care for this rendition, but hey, he's the guy who wrote it, so you have to give him his credit.

I do enjoy Disciple, mostly because the in-your-face Scripture-based lyrics of their old albums always get me pumped. Besides that and a few other casual pleasures, though, I definitely agree. Sadly, they're somehow getting worse, as hard as it is to believe.

Yeah, they did. It's not nearly as good as the original, of course, but it's still solid. John's original version of "How He Loves" is probably the best version of that song, too, especially when you hear the story behind it.

I have a few friends too who are only interested in music if it is Christian, which I think is ridiculous, there is tons of great stuff out there, secular or not.

I just wanna go on the record of saying that you are one of my favorite users though, and at least when you say something on this website there is some genuine thought behind it.
I have friends who only listen to Christian music as well, and while I by no means see any reason to do so myself, I do have respect for their decision to avoid anything that they see as potentially harmful to their relationship with Christ. They don't bash secular music, but just choose not to listen to it.
I agree, Troggy is a great user.
Alleluia Sing, from Church Music
Is it bad of me to hope this leaks soon or I can somehow get a hold of it ASAP? :D
I do enjoy Disciple, mostly because the in-your-face Scripture-based lyrics of their old albums always get me pumped. Besides that and a few other casual pleasures, though, I definitely agree. Sadly, they're somehow getting worse, as hard as it is to believe.
ahahahaha Disciple, now that's a blast from the past. Christian music isn't transcendent of the genre its in, just like anything else. There are a lot of Christian bands that play music as bland as Nickelback, the only difference is they are less likely to be major deuchebags (Chad Kroeger).
I recommend "Hear Our Prayers" and "Close to Your Heart" from their first CD. Haven't gotten around to their new one yet.
Yeah I'll download it and see what I think.

Pillar and all CCM bands that sound like Pillar need to go away. So boring.
Oh, well that's interesting. I'll look into it. I saw that The Glorious Unseen have also done a Crowder cover themselves, O Praise Him I believe it was.
Yeah I looked them up, may go listen to them when I get a chance. Can't do that at work, haha.

Definitely on the posting at idiot users. I can see where that might be fun the first 50 posts, but now that real discussion is so hard to come by I pick and choose my spots. Talking in this thread is the most I've posted in a single day in months.

They're saying that about non-Anberlin bands, right? Stephen Christian must promote good values always!

I usually just stick to the Pokemon thread, unless something piques my interest. I don't usually bother to oblige any of the 'list your favorite this and that' because it's getting boring repeating the same lists over and over again. I'm always down for talking about DCB or one of my other short list of favorites.

"I just know Jesus is the Way, I just know..." That's still my jam, man, lol.
I dunno... I heard that the guys in Kutless can be pretty big jerks. Also, at the Purple Door festival, Pillar made everyone stay out of the area by their stage while they sound checked; this was ridiculous because no other bands ever do that, you could obviously hear it anyways (since it's a relatively small outside festival), and the sound was still pretty bad.

That's cool, it was a few years ago when I saw them. I went to the tour with BTA / ABR / Spoken / Demon Hunter / Zao. Good one overall, Zao and BTA were both sick.

Yeah Christian artists are prone to getting full of themselves just like anyone else, I suppose. I have seen Kutless perform a few times but never got into them. Especially when I saw some of the other people that WERE into it, like, you know, some 40 year old dad jumping around while they rawked out.
Ha, that's kind of funny. I don't really like Flyleaf, but I like her vocals, so that's cool.
Just lending some vocals won't destroy the DCB record, thankfully. I'm interested to see how these girls are incorporated. Getting more pumped for this record haha.

I think the fact that they've been going this long is something. They're not accessible enough to be Anberlin, trendy enough to be ABR, they're not that relevant, but I'd bet they still have a reasonable following even in their late career. I haven't really listened to them much on record, maybe a song or two once.

I saw BTA at Purple Door, and it was pretty sick. I also sat down and drew postcards with two of my friends, and their guitarist, Count Seth, joined us. He was a really nice guy. He mailed his postcard to me, lol.

The best is when that dad takes his daughter into the front, and then gets mad when some of the Kutless and Disciple fans are moshing. My brother got kicked out of the end of a Disciple concert for moshing, lol.

Well, they started with a sort of nu metal sound and transitioned into "emo" (not real emo, but the pop punk style that most people give that label to), so they're not beyond trying what's trendy, either. They do seem to maintain a pretty solid following, though.

Back on topic (I love how we've hit everything from Hillsong to Becoming the Archetype)... I heard that the new album is going to flow perfectly from track to track, making it sounds like one long song (in a good, non-repetitive sort of way). I really like albums with great transitions, so that's pretty cool.

Sweet, BTA is a solid band and good guys. Some of the boringcore T&N/Solidstate bands could learn a thing or two from them.

My top two slots are reserved for Thrice (favorite band, so sue me) and Bradley Hathaway, but this is already cementing itself at number three. The whole dance feel had me worried, but it's executed perfectly. The album really hits its stride with "All Around Me" and "How He Loves"; that pair of covers is almost overwhelming emotionally. All of the dance-influenced jams and the sick shredding in the second to last song feel so much more powerful and meaningful after that.

There are already wayyy to many songs that I'm loving on here as well. I didn't really enjoy the electric feel for some of the jams, but I'm actually really enjoying them now. How He Loves is excellent(I still enjoy the Glorious Unseen's version more), and I think Shadows may be one of my new favorite worship songs.
Another grade A album from DCB.
Just got home with Church Music...listening now. Good so far. The end of 'Eastern Hymn' was awesome.
Edit: How awesome is God Almighty, None Compares??? I think I would have liked one or two more stripped down songs, but the album is great. DCB cannot be stopped :D

I listened to it at a moderately high volume last night in my friend's car, and it got me so pumped. I love how they can hit so many styles (metal, dance, bluegrass in the past) and do them all well, rather than a dull bastardization of the genre. If only more praise music could be executed this well.

Yessss. Church Music may never catch up to this album.
Are The Veil and We are Loved two plays on the same song? I have only heard the whole record once, but I went back and played them one after another and it seems like he is doing the same thing that FSF did on Hide Nothing. Confirm/Deny?

Huh... I don't have that FSF album, so I can't comment on the comparison you're trying to make, but those songs do sound very much so like a part 1 and part 2 of sorts.

haha, no problem. basically i was just making sure i wasn't hearing things. i may go try and hunt down any dcb comments on the songs, if they exist.

So, to those who bought the album, did any other good readers stumble upon a certain website with a certain pointless-yet-entertaining video?

Guess I'll check later. Haven't really looked into it too much, was just excited about listening to it.

Well, it's short and pointless, so no need to hurry, but it's just a fun little hidden tidbit. I could make it easier and post the link, but that'd ruin the fun of it. ;-)

Started rough, but its getting better. I'm working through a lot of general classes right now, just its kind of tedious, but not terrible. Chicago traffic is horrible. I have to hit the loop every wed-fri at 6, and going about 4 miles takes a good 45 minutes.

Is it on the actual CD? I left it in my car and can't check.

Is it supposed to end when he says 'Okay that's enough'? It cut off like that twice when I watched it, just hoping I didn't miss anything on the end there.

I really want to get this. I've just been on an A Collision kick lately... That's some good stuff, and what I'm hearing from Church Music sounds incredible.

Yeah, that's when it ended for me. The video starts and stops so abruptly, and it's so irrelevant to everything, but I laughed.

haha, fair enough. It's true they did put out a lot of footage/material before the album was released.

A Collision is still brilliant. I listened to it earlier this week to make sure, and yeah, it's still excellent.
Anyone else check out that acoustic EP they released this summer?

I really wanted to grab it and I haven't yet. Maybe I'll check it out later, but I never get bored with DC*B. So stinkin good.
so.. word on the street is that this band broke up?
wasn't really a fan, but they were one of the only christian-mainstream-pop bands that were doing it right.

yeah i heard that too.
Saw them play at Passion and they were okay, but they seemed a bit worn out. But I'm glad to see other rising Christian acts stepping up (Gungor, John Mark McMillan, Rend Collective Experiment).

From JesusFreakHideout.com (http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com/news/2011/05/21.David%20Crowder%20Band%20Announc e%20Break-Up%20and%20Farewell%20Tour.asp):
We have several things to let you know about.
First of all, we can't begin to express how excited we are getting about The 7 Tour this fall. If you haven't heard yet, we're doing a national tour with some of our favorite artists ever. Gungor, John Mark McMillan, and Chris August are joining us, and we cannot wait to be in the same room with these folks night after night. We’re pretty sure you'll want to be at every single one of these get-togethers. "Unreasonable!" you say? Well, not to us. That's why we'll be there every single night. Seriously, we, the band, are all getting on a bus and following the whole thing around for like 3 months. It's going to be awesome.
Now, another reason we are sure this will be one of the most meaningful tours we've ever been on is because it will be our last as a band. This is why we so cleverly named it The 7 Tour. We've always hidden this little number here and there in our music and artwork, sometimes it would appear in the sum of the numerals 3 and 4, and other times it would be sitting there outright, but it’s always been with us. As you know, the number 7 has often been used to represent completion, and that feels exactly where we are as a band.
The David Crowder*Band was formed in the year two thousand; it was the dawn of a millennium, Y2K was upon us, and out of this chaos was born the DC*B. That sounds way more epic than we intend it, but it is fact. We signed a 3 album deal with our friends at sixstepsrecords who are part of the EMI/CMG family. We didn’t want to be presumptuous, presuming there would be more than those first three albums, but we hoped. And so we began discussions about building a 6 album set, the second three, if we were ever to have the great privilege of recording them, would be loosely associated with the first three, you know, sort of like how in the creation story day one is related to day four, as in, first there is light, then on the fourth day the sun and moon and stars appear. We do these things because we are quite nerdy and also because we hope to inject meaning wherever and whenever we are able. We also like structure, and this seemed a pretty nifty structure to work within, since, well, it is one of the greatest stories ever. And sure enough, we have had the happy fortune to record five full-length albums and are hard at work on the 6th right now.
The problem, or the beauty, is that we’ve never been able to see past album 6. In the meantime, a lot of life has happened. It is now 2011 (this is for anyone who may not have been paying attention) and in eleven years there have been many twists and turns. Each of us has gotten married. New humans have arrived as a result of these marriages, 5 to be exact. We have also lost some really good friends to death along the way and have gotten to celebrate together that death is not the end of things. It’s really crazy to think that we have lived over a decade of life together. And, in the middle of all this life, we have gotten to make music that was a reflection of what was happening among us. We have attempted, to the best of our ability, to insert all of these twists and turns into our music, hoping that our responses to God in the midst of these moments would be an aid to others.
At the first of this year we began discussing what was next. For a long while, we have had a good idea what we were going to do for album number 6; we were going to record a Mass. Ambitious, maybe, but we had been working out the details of how it would connect to A Collision, you know the one with the boy and the atom on the cover. Mass happens to be a term used in physics, and this was exciting to us. But we also began conversations about what was to follow this sixth album. Some of us discussed maybe going back to school. Some of us talked about how great it might feel to be home with family more. Some mentioned maybe writing for a living, or at least getting to give more attention to it. Some talked about more music to be made and who they might enjoy making it with and how great it would be to have more diverse options open to them and the excitement they felt when thinking about those options (as in, if this was to be the period at the end of a sentence, they couldn’t wait to read the next paragraph!) And, out of these discussions, the decision was reached that this sixth album would be our last. None of us is sure what’s next, but we’re not afraid. We’re, in fact, really, really excited! And we’re sure that music will play a role in the future for most, if not all, of us, since, well, we wouldn’t know how to not have it a part of our lives. To what extent that will be, none of us is sure. We are hopeful and expecting, and praying that what is ahead of us deepens our need and experience of redemption and multiplies our ability and effectiveness in expressing the story of God in light of the call he has on each of our lives.
We are forever grateful for the support we have had from our church community, both local and extended. Really. It has been beautiful, all of it. And we will most definitely keep you informed as things progress and life’s new twists and turns start to make themselves more apparent.
In the meantime, as you can imagine, this album we’re working on is pretty special to us. Fittingly enough, it seems our little Mass has turned itself into a Requiem. We’d love your prayers as we endeavor to put a period at the end of this sentence. And obviously it was not overstated when we said The 7 Tour will be a thing you may not want to miss. We would love for you to join us for one last evening together, singing these songs that God has allowed us to carry.
With Love and Gratitude,
The DC*B

Seems pretty legit. Love that a worship band is pulling a Refused/White Stripes and bowing out for artistically meaningful reasons, but sucks that I won't get to see them live ever again. Maybe I'll find out how far away the closest show is and take a mini road trip.

I know most people in the Christian Music Thread are probably the only one's in this thread as well, but the new album is out! I had a chance to listen to two songs over lunch and it's sounding amazing so far!

Oh goodness, this DC*B is too awesome and epic and overwhelming for my short attention span. 34 tracks of anything is dang hard to get through. It's such a good album, though. Live up to my expectations? Of course not; they were insane. This is far, far from a disappointment, though. As good as this year is looking right now, I don't think anything besides Bradley Hathaway can dethrone it.
