I'm not obsessed. There are a ton of similar sounding bands that do it a lot better.

Because they have a fantastical technical ability, the best guitar tone in the business, brilliant riffing and I believe do distinguish themselves from other metalcore bands. I don't see how people can judge Bless over O'God. Bless is just a standard metalcore album. It has some good tracks but O'God is much more fufilling.
Norma Jean also have an integrety in their lyrics missing in the genre. Though christian and heavily based on faith they give interesting insights (Scientifiction and the balance between man playing god and god himself). I'm not christian but I respect Norma Jean for their faith and conviction.
As I Lay Dying = Terrible not Norma Jean.

hahahaha are you joking? brilliant riffing? they play discords and breakdowns...
you clearly dont listen to the genre to often if you think this band does anything more then "standard metalcore"

You clearly don't listen to Norma Jean or play an instument if you think this band only plays discords and breakdowns. The rock n roll vibe and timing of the riffs and the percision is what makes their riffing awesome. Along with all the subtlties in their music. Taking a riff, reversing it, changing a song direction then going somewhere new all together.
At least I give valid reasons for why I like or dislike a band. All i've heard from you guys is "they're terrible".

i am at a very good music school for guitar. i'm pretty sure i can tell what good use of the instrument is. i just don't see how it's brilliant guitar work. i wasn't kidding when i said i think my little brother could come up with better stuff. he's 11. he would pwn their guitarists

there have been a ton of valid reasons, for whatever reason you dont agree and think they are guitar gods, which they are not.

They remind us Botch.

norma jean doesn't have to be a technical masterpiece...they write music that we've all heard before, but it was still entertaining...luti-kriss sucked by the way

norma jean is okay if you've only heard one or two of their songs, any more then that and you get sick of them really quick.

I didn't say they were guitar gods. But I do think they have very capable guitarists. They're inventive use of 5 tone scales (Scientifiction Outro), combination of rock n roll rhythm turned into something heavier (Similar to Every Time I Die, they came first), subtleties they do in the music (reversed passages: coffinspire) and their tone. They're creative. Yet again I will mention their tone, they demonstrate why Orange AD140's are the best amps in the business.
There are some similarities to Botch, but I find NJ has more flair.

if you think their tone is good pick up a converge or isis record. at least you can back up your points i like that, i just dont happen to agree with your stance in this case.

i agree that it's good you are explaining yourself. i definitely don't agree they are even a bit creative with the guitar, but yeah i'm not hating on you for thinking they are
