So tonight I went to see the Take Action tour at the House of Blues. I was already pretty upset at the fact that Paramore wouldn't be playing but I figured the rest of the bands would put on a pretty good show. When we arrived we find out from Matchbook Romance, who is already signing autographs, that Silverstein wouldn't be playing either, someone in Shane's, the lead singer, family had died, so this just this means that minus The Early November the bands I came to see would not be playing. Oh well, it ended up being a pretty decent show anyway.
Sullivan started things off, just being added to the show most people didn't know who they even were. The lead singer started the set off by shhh..ing the crowd and telling them to be quiet. Despite their music not really being my "cup of tea" I still enjoyed their set, the best part coming when the energetic lead singer slipped and busted his ass b/c he was playing in his socks. He still managed to keep going. Depsite their energy the crowd didn't seem to react well to them as most people just stood and watched or turned to a neighbor and held conversations over the music.
Next up was Amber Pacific. I had only heard some of their stuff on their new CD and was interested to see how they would perform live. Like Sullivan, they played with plenty of energy but the crowd just didn't seem to feel them. The lead singer tried his hardest to get them involved but no one reacted and I think it upset him cause he walked off stage before the band even finished their final song.
After them was The Early November who started off asking the crowd if they wanted to hear Ever So Sweet or a new song, the crowd chose Ever So Sweet and TEN played straight the first 3 tracks of The Room's Too Cold before playing a new song. Ace seemed pretty upset with his singing of the new song as he asked the crowd to "boo" him afterwards. They then went back into a mix of TRTC and another new song. In the middle of the set Jeff broke his bass peddle and in the downtime Ace and Serge asked the crowd why they weren't moving around. After that the crowd started moving and didn't stop through the rest of the set.
Matchbook Romance finished the night up but not before the Take Action Public Announcement. It was kinda sad to know that so few people knew what this tour was even about but what was even sadder than that was when the guitarist from Silverstein delivered the message and when he apologized for his band not being able to play some girl yelled "FUCK YOU" not realizing there was a death in the family of one of the band members.
I was worried about Matchbook's set because they had to rush afterwards to make a flight to play for MTV's spring break, or something spring break, and I feared it meant rushed songs and a shorten set, TEN had already had to cut one song out of their set. Despite their need to leave for a flight Matchbook did well. They played a bunch off of Voices and a few old ones. I wasn't happy with the vocals in Playing for Keeps but enjoyed the set none the less. My only gripe was the lack of clapping during Monsters. I love the clapping in that song and no one in the crowd could do it.
All and all it was a pretty good show. I would recommend seeing it.
