I dropped mine the other day no more than a half of foot on carpet and it froze up. I think I might of detached the battery(at least I hope thats all it is)

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone ever had to send theirs out, and how long it took for apple to fix it and send it back

mine was so fucked up that they just gave me a new one since it was still covered under the warrenty. i guess it depends if it's fixable or not.

my friend sent his in to someplace (I don't think it was apple, because they usually send you packaging), and wherever he sent it called him and said that someone had cut open the packaging and taken the iPod.

But I have yet to send mine in. I've had my Third Generation 15g iPod for almost two years and it's going strong.

(By the way, the shit you guys have is another reason not to buy Ipods - no in-store support)

i had a battery failure and apple immedaitely replaced it with a "refurbished one which is till use tday. it was done farly fast and efficently. at the same time i had an extended warranty with apple so taht might of contribuited to the speedy delivery. alot of ties if your ipod is out of warranty, it would just be cheaper and faster to buy a new one, unless its like a video ipod or something. the problem with ipods is that the only big problem they ahve is battery failure, and it just so happens to be taht you, yourself, cannot replace and ipod battery......funny how taht works out.....

Funny I see this. My iPod had been acting up from christmas till 2 weeks ago where it completely just wouldn't turn on. So I called apple monday and they told me I was 3 weeks over my year warranty so I was thinking fuck I'm gonna have to pay so much for repair and shipping but they guy send in some cases there generous and exempt people. They exempted me and its getting shipped to them for free and there sending me back a brand new one for free, no charges. Only shitty part is I wanted to get an extended warranty on it but I can't since I'm over a year. My new one will only have 90 days. I just got the box sent to my house today, I put the iPod in and sent it back to them, they said it shouldnt take long.

So my brother called them yesterday because he had the same problem and hes inside his warranty period and there fucking making him pay for shipping. Just when I thought apple was nice there dicks. He tried to fight it hard but they made him pay so he just paid the extra $10 for the service for a year which wsa $55 canadian and well worth it.

no instore support?
they should probably start something where you can make an appointment and come in the same day to get your ipod serviced

they should call it a genius bar

and it should probably have apple technicians called geniuses to try to help you with your problem and suggest the solution.

all this in the store.

oh and dropping = accidental damage = voids warranty
hopefully there's no obvious signs of you dropping it.

get a creative vision:m. i've had mine not even 24 hours and this thing blows an ipod out of the water. apple should seriously model theirs after this genius item. it has 4 times as many colors, plays MULTIPLE video and audio types (not just quicktime) and you dont need itunes or a music program to put your music on it, you just drag and drop. there's a reason these are sold out everywhere and now I know it. I got it for my girlfriend to take on a trip tomorrow but I'm seriously thinking about picking myself up one now. do yourself a favor and when you get the replacement ipod put it up on ebay and get some idiot to pay top dollar for it then use that towards a vision:m.

i've had to send mine back twice. the first time i got the new one in like a week, the second one took around three weeks or a month. the warranty was expired but i just typed in the info online and apparently they didn't notice, cause i just had to pay the $30 for shipping and handling.

I've went through about 4 or 5 of them since whenever they started making them (1st generation was a while ago, I guess it was 2001) because I've had problems with hard drives flipping out, one being stolen and just general problems, which sounds like a lot but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the times the hard drive freaking out wasn't my problem, either that or I just can't learn a lesson and am a glutton for punishment by getting them over and over. No less, I think they've gotten progressively less problematic for me over the years, but I never deal with Apple. One time when mine was broken, I called them up and they said they couldn't even speak to me unless I gave them $66, so I promptly told them I was going to go now, went to CompUSA and they fixed it up nice and quickly. I always have a warranty there, so my iPod's that I keep getting fixed or just replaced have cost me a total of $45.

Besides my damn stolen one, that one did not get fixed obviously, however the funny thing about that one was that I was going back home for Christmas Break when it was stolen, and it was broken and the first thing on my agenda was go get it fixed at CompUSA. So whoever stole it, got themselves a lovely broken one with no warranty verification. Go thief! Out of that ordeal, I got a new Video iPod for myself though, which makes me somewhat glad it was stolen because that thing is sweet. Absolutely love it, and I used to mock it all the time. Back to the point though, get a warranty with whoever you bought it from, do not deal with Apple. They take too long and they have horrible customer service.

rip-off or not, their product is better. check C-Net's reviews, the newest Zen is unbelievable and blows the iPod away in ever single category - battery life, screen size, color display, file formats, drag & drop transferring, etc.
