To The Distressed Decks

"To The Distressed Decks"
i'm stuttering, speaking without point or reason
like celebrity monologue, this is unneeded
but if you decipher the code to my sentence (sentenced in fragments)
you'll find the method without its madness
first rock we struck ripped the bow wide open

and in the rain, the mass cracked like a back
these ropes have a life of their own, they must be caught
tied down and gagged
anything to keep this ship steady and strong
anything to keep the water out of these lungs

[Chorus]
they called the firing squad
i have gone against their convention
but i pray this now to God
may in death i find new life of His invention
free of guilt, taking weight
take aim, i am guilty

and in a desperate attempt to save their own necks
i am thrown from this sinking ship's decks
but i am desperate to leave this wreck
so i welcome the waves
so i welcome the waves
as i am mercilessly thrown to their mercy
but i'm desperate to leave

[Repeat Chorus]
discard the message in the bottle, thrown out to sea
i poured my heart in it after i drank it clean
Father, please forgive me
discard the body that washed ashore with the note attached
that read, "i went back and died in the past"
Father, please forgive me

Good stuff

here's my nomination.

if i close my heart, the open road will be much easier
and all the things i leave behind, they wouldn't really matter
what's the problem? what would be the difference
this town would be just the same whether or not i'm in it
these streets will still be cracked
like my knuckles when i'm restless
and everyone will still know everyone else's business
the gossip around here just makes me sick
if these people want the bullshit they should just go lie in it

so go to sleep.
i'll meet you in the a.m.
when we could hitch a ride out of this town
we'll take the clothes on our backs, some cds and a backpack
full of things we'll need to get ourselves around
let's go somewhere real far from here.
away from all these cynics with minds that close like doors
i want to look for oppurtinity
and build up my immunity to rejection
and be stronger in the future

if the rain could wash away this greed, this storm would be our savior.

wow, thanks slade. here's my nomination:

Let's let today set a tempo
for the rest of our lives
we're living at 200 beats a minute
and the world never stops spinning
Oh, where has the time gone?
All we see these days
is wars we're gonna lose
Eventually, their population will be dead
and we'll all be wondering,
Oh, where has the time gone?

It's been wasted on foggy windows
and watching incandescent screens
staying up nights and sattirical TV shows
our lives our meaningless
we don't affect anythings progress
Can you hear me cry out for distress?
How will the world change even if our ship sinks?

(I'm either gonna make this part all talking or really slow, its a convo me and my dad had)
"Think about life like this:
we're all on an escalator
and there's lines on the escalator called death
it starts at the beginning of time
and it ends at the end of the world"
"The line seems close. Oh, where has the time gone?"

It's been wasted on foggy windows
and watching incandescent screens
staying up nights and sattirical TV shows
our lives our meaningless
we don't affect anythings progress
Can you hear me cry out for distress?
How will the world change even if our ship sinks?

It's been wasted on foggy windows
and watching incandescent screens
and artists that make our hearts bleed
we don't affect anything's progress
who cares if the ship sinks?

***

I got it tonight
looks like I'm goin' nowhere.
Say goodbye to your dreams son,
she said
you're gettin' nowhere with this...
gettin' nowhere with this...

Fin.

I'm not sure if I should nominate something just for the competition, the rest just don't drive me crazy. I think I won't, sorry guys.

I second Tariq as nomination.

And Slade, why do you run the competition?

Not objecting, just wondering really...

It was his idea in the first place.

I nominate this:

The state of the nation is the state of undress. Everyone half exposed to the sun, dried up and stuck with vampire bones. Once you open a casket that should have stayed nailed shut you know you're in trouble. Night-time kids never know what to say to each other when they collide under a suspicious, heavy moon. On show under the aching spotlight. Lines forgotten, cues missed. Hands, faces and hearts all turned upside down to spill the contents. Not a shade of an 'I'm sorry' in sight. It doesn't feel good on the tongue and it doesn't sound sexy on the air. Sultry, sweet, provocative. Belts serve to cover the join between thinking and doing; Frankenstein couldn't cover the bolts because he didn't have the fashion sense. Maybe we don't either but we've got bigger ideas. Bigger bad ideas. Blowing kisses to traitors and taking bribes from the moonlight operators. Tell them to make it dark forever. Tell them when they focus the spotlight and switch on the early evening microphone to keep them away from me. I'm frightened over what the stars will have me say next. When I see your face from the side I wonder how you ended up on my side of the fence. It makes me want to drink sunlight. Take your time away from mine, bedtime divine. The tone of your voice creeps under the skin and turns all my words into: "you can't follow this through, there's a whole strip of sunlight between me and you"
