I really don't think the guitarists are incredible. Like, they can play the cliche metal riffs really really really well...flawlessly probably. But there's nothing inventive that I can hear, and that plays a huge role for me personally in deciding if someone's a great guitarist.

i struggle with this band a lot... i liked sounding, waking was one of the best CDs i've ever owned/heard, city of evil was one of the worst, and their new selftitled, i thought was gonna suck even more than city of evil. but i was incredibly suprize by it. the lyrics are strides ahead of coe, they music is amazing, and shadows is tolerable, maybe even a little bit enjoyable. their new CD is totaly worth getting if you really want to get into this band again after hating them because of city of evil.

Avenged Sevenfold is a fantastic group of musicians. The Rev is capable of some complicated drum charts and the guitarists know when to lay back and when to lay it all out in a solo. Music isn't all about playing sick licks the whole time. It's about the feel of the song and being able to lay back every now and then.
