I will be out of town this Sunday, so I am posting my recs now. I had forum member Todd (GoWaitInTheCar) join me.
It's reggae week!
The Toots and the Maytals (http://www.tootsandthemaytals.net/toots/) - These guys are some of the founders of reggae. Their music is great, and they set an incredible atmosphere.
Peter Tosh (http://www.ptosh.com/) - The guy sings a song called "Legalize It." Need I say more? Give it a listen.
Buju Banton (http://www.reggaemovement.com/Artists/buju_banton.htm) - This guy is more of a dance-hall reggae artist. Think of an older style Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley.
Fela Kuti (http://www.felaproject.net/) - Fela Kuti is one of the most impressive artists I have ever listened to. His music is truly engaging, and even those who usually pass on the genre are intruiged by his songs. If nothing else, spin this.
BRINGIN' BACK THE 80'S with Todd (GoWaitInTheCar)
Morrissey (http://www.morrissey-solo.com)
- My Early Burglary Years
This includings the amazing song "Sunny" arguably the best solo Morrissey Album. Be sure to check out his up and coming release Ringleader of The Tormentors . Where would music be today without The Moz?
She Wants Revenge (http://www.shewantsrevenge.com)
- Self Titled
For Fans of Interpol and Joy Division. They bring back the 80's. Dark Indie and Synth make this album a must have. I believe this band will slowly become big. Hop on the banwagon now.
Nightmare Of You (http://www.nightmareofyou.com)
- Self Titled
This band also will become big. For fans of dancy 80's pop. Features Brandon from The Movielife on vocals and guitar. This was my favorite cd of 2005. Now I'm just obsessed.
Art Brut (http://www.artbrut.nikkidido.com)
- Bang, Bang Rock And Roll
I just got a listen of this cd a few weeks ago. Since then I've been hooked. I will go out on a limb and say this band reminds me a bit of The Rolling Stones, capped off with strong British accents, and a very happy guitar, this band has potential to be big as well.
The Deftones (http://www.thedeftones.com)
- White Pony
This is really the only rec that doesn't have the 80's feel. But how can you deny Chino Moreno and The Deftones? This cd changed my life when it was released. Mixed with smooth and harsh vocals and chill melodies this cd easily makes it into my top 5 of all time.
Elefant (http://www.theblackmagicshow.com)
- Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid
This was released in 2003 and in my opinion never got the attention it deserves. If you are a fan of dark indie, this cd is for you. Upon listening you will want to share it with your friends. New albums in stores April 18th.
