I just swa then last night, AMAZING! I met Nic after the show! I wrote about it in my blog. Here's an excerpt:
atbys American Dream is certainly the best indie punk band of ever. They were ridiculous live! Nic was all over the stage dancing and high stepping to every beat! Amazing energy. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. They're up there with Mute Math and Blindside for best live performance I've witnessed.
The coolest part was getting to talk to Nic at their merch table after the show. I told him how much I adored their latest album Volcano and told him how it's in my top 5 albums all time. Then I asked him about the last song on Volcano. The theme of the album is that our human emotions erupt like a volcano: a long, subdued build-up countered with a massive outburst of anger/lust/pride/insertsinhere. There's also references to the famous volcano Vesuvius in Pompeii and a song about both Lord Of The Flies and Ender's Game. My favorite song is Guilt Engine because of the clever metaphor of comparing lust with an internal combustion engine. ANYWHO, i just got wayyyyy off topic. So they cuss frequently and it doesn't really bother me that much, but my sister and her friends were ticked off....this leads me to the question about that song...that I alluded to about 7 sentences ago...sorry. So, I asked Nic "I love the theme on Volcano, but I noticed the lyrics on the last song 'The Loosing Of The Shadow' are more personal, especially with the opening lyrics 'How could you understand how I feel about God? How could you understand anything about me at all?'"
Nic said that it was about legalistic Christians who tear him down. Man, that's almost what I thought it was about. It felt great to get confirmation straight out of his mouth. I asked him if he had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and he said "I do, but it's a fraction of where I want it to be. But I do" I shook his hand and almost turned around to head away when this little girl with her eyes barely peering over the table turned to Nic and asked in this cute, little voice "Hi! Who are you? Are you in a band?" Nic replied "yeah, I'm the singer for the third band" Her entire demeanor changed. She became overwhelmed with excitement and almost screamed out "REALLY OH MY GOSH THAT'S SOOOO AWESOME!" Nic made eye-contact with me and we smiled at each other. What a great night!
I get to see gatsby's 3 times in the next 4 months.
4/1 with starting line
6/16 at the creepy
7/25 at warped

i'm so upset that portugal. the man and forgive durden aren't on the west coast dates. it sucks so much, i was really looking forward to that.
i'm still seeing gatsby twice so.. i guess it doesn't suck as much as it could. although it still sucks.

I was there last night as well and it was amazing. definitly one of the better preformances ive seen, right up there w/ mute math for me too. they pretty much booked me for this tour, im just really pissed cause i would rather see portugal and horse rather thatn waking ashland and my american heart, although i do like the two bands. anyway...gatsbys is a bad ass band live, go see them damnit.
