Define 'Emo' Music

There has been some discussion on this website on what bands are 'Emo', and what bands are not.
I've always thought emo bands were like The Used, ETF, BlesstheFall, Silverstein, etc. other people are saying 'emo' is more like Dashboard Confessional, and one user said the new Panic At the Disco is emo (i dont agree).
So... i want your opinion. who is emo??

Just throwing this out there, I was reading the website linked on the second post, and it seemed like all the emo bands listed were heavier/punk bands, which I knew were emo, but I thought there was another side of the genre, more chill bands like American Football. Or are they not emo? I really don't know much about that. haha

They're more "indie emo". Emo started as sort of a subculture of punk music, which you see with bands like Rites Of Spring and even Cap'n Jazz. Then it turned into the softer stuff such as Mineral, American Football, etc. Then there was the poppier sound done by bands such as The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World in the late 90's early 00's. So yeah...they're emo haha
