There is such a ridiculous amount of nicotine in those fake cigarette things, I tried it once, and it made me sick. And I'm someone who smokes normally.

I smoke a pack and a half a day and it wasn't bad at all. How can vaporized nicotine be worse for you that burned nicotine and all the other bullshit that they put in cigarettes. I'm not contending that they're good for you (as the FDA did with cigarettes in the 50's), simply that they must less harmful than the standard cigarette.

Think about it- a much safer alternative to actual smoking.

It is odd. But I posted this not to advertise the pros of the e-cig, but to point out that they are obviously safer and would bring a huge hit to Big Tobacco profits- so its sort of convenient that the FDA is "issuing warnings".

right, makes sense. if they are better than cigarettes than i am for them.

The company I work for was working on something very similar to e-cigarettes for the Asian market, but it's because Asian culture frowns upon second hand smoke and actually being able to see the smoke burn off the cigarette.

So you would tend to agree with me on this matter, in that the FDA could potentially be protecting Big Tobacco profits through issuing this warning?

Oh, I have no idea. But it wouldn't surprise me a single bit if they did.

I hadn't really read the article so I opened it up and read the first paragraph. This just made me chuckle: "found they contain carcinogens and other toxic chemicals dangerous to humans." Isn't that the case for normal cigarettes as well? I mean, we all know there's crazy shit in there that is not good for you. I find it a bit hypocritical for them to make a statement like that.
I also don't see how this could possibly be worse for you. Any good pot smoker knows that a vaporizer is the best and safest way to smoke pot. Isn't this essentially a portable vaporizer? I don't really know the process behind either, but they seem similar enough. Smoking vapor is significantly nicer to your lungs then smoking...well...smoke.
I dunno, this whole thing is just stupid.

I know- it really makes me think about how much monetary (or some equivilent) incentives rule our government/pharmaceutical industry.

Probably one of the largest reasons that marijuana legalization isn't moving faster is because of the alcohol/tobacco/pharmaceutical industry. They don't want the competition.

Very true. It really astounds me. I mean, putting aside the fact that I enjoy marijuana, it could be our nations next largest cash crop. I mean, in California, even though it is only legal on a state-wide scale, it totally dwarfs their second largest cash crop: lettuce. However, this is an almost entirely different debate that already has its own thread.

the FDA are a bunch of worthless pricks anyway. the e-cig would be a good idea for someone trying to quit, i suppose.

also, since e-cigarettes have vapor instead of smoke, you can smoke them indoors.
