That was the best part of the entire interview on TRL.
Seriously.
And I noticed the members of P!ATD, GCH, and TAI. Mainly, I noticed Brendon immediately.
EDIT: Yeah, Dirty, too. That part made me laugh.

I'm a fan of them, but I thought it was a horrible video. Don't get on my case, I still like them, but I just think the video was pretty bad. It was kind of like Blade, and also I really didn't like that it was 6 minutes. I think they should do Nobody Puts A Baby In The Corner for the next single.

Yeah i actually think the video sucks (i feel sorry for TAI and Panic) and fall out boy has really gone down. i used to to have so much respect and supported this band for many years, but now its hard to like them. if you watch the real sugar were goin down vid or dead on arrival thats when they were at their best and now i think that they have ripped everyone off and there fans are made to suffer. look at the SNL show, learn how to play your songs right guys. i mean if you cant put on a live show anymore your done. oh and joe troh stop ripping off the nose man. he and sneed are old school ka-rat-ay kickers and the best at it

Im having a hard time decieding if theyre original and risky...or its all for the image of being FOB
Anybody that compares this video to Thriller in any way has obviously never seen the full Thriller video. It actually had a story that was told through song.... it didn't need interruptions every 10 seconds to get the message across.
It's also good to see that FOB is as bad "live" on tape as they are in person.
Just an overall bad video.

I think their idea was just too big for the video. It seemed like there was no ending and it wasn't set up very well. I give them credit for really taking it a step beyond most bands, like going through stunt training and everything, but it just seemed like something too big to take on for a six minute video. I watched the making of it on MTV, but had I just seen the video a lot of the plot probably would have been lost on me. Nice effort, though.
I loved the cameos, though. That was the only reason I watched it in the first place, but they didn't say anything about that on TV which was kind of a let down.

FOB = wanted to make a movie (succeeded, good for them)
Product placement = funding for that movie (succeeded, good for them)
I'd bet that they had a lot of fun making this and that they accomplished exactly what they wanted to. How can you get down on them for that?
This video is way over the top; in my mind FOB has reached the same status as Britney Spears. They've lost my respect.

And the only reason anybody ever heard that song on the radio was because KROQ decided to play it, people liked it, and Interscope released it nationwide.

03/13/06, 05:57 PM
k so here's what i think. The video is really creative and interesting and what-not. But for a music video...I think it's REALLY overdone. The song (not only the words, but the mood of it) don't match the video at all. The song should be the focus of a music video. Not just randomly playing in the background.
It was entertaining though...and I love all the cameos.
Creative as in making interesting and unique videos.
Well, in terms of videos, I agree. Music, not so much.
domesticyeti
03/13/06, 06:25 PM
i dont really like fall out boy, but that was one of the better songs on FUCT.
the video sucked. The song was spliced in all the wrong places for the talking and acting bits, the song overall was hard to hear and had poor quality, and it didnt fit the idea of the video at all. This seemed like something they could have made into some stupid short film for a DVD or online thing.
The acting was bad, the plotlines were unecessary (seriously, does anyone think wentz could fight vampires?)
Dance, Dance video worked because it fit the song, and when it did take breaks for talking, they were entertaining and didnt destroy the quality of the song.
This just flat out sucked
Well, in terms of videos, I agree. Music, not so much.
Then it's just not your style, which is cool. But their new CD is really, really good.

Creative as in making interesting and unique videos.
And the only reason anybody ever heard that song on the radio was because KROQ decided to play it, people liked it, and Interscope released it nationwide.
I'm with you, Alien Ant Farm is so underrated and gets so much shit for ONE song. Ridiculous.
And about the video...I need to see it again to decide. I'm still on the fence.

haha things are so crazy dramatic around here. while i agree with some of the obvious criticisms (indiscreet product placement is always a bummer, and the song didn't fit the whole time, musicians aren't great actors), i can't believe people are saying the video is 'utter shit', etc. it was really ambitious and it looked like they were having the time of their lives. sure, it could've run a bit smoother but i'm just really glad to see pop-punk bands get away from those horrid 'pool party' videos we used to see so much of. anyway, that's one man's opinion, not worth much on this website.

If you think about it (and yes...I might be flip flopping more than Jon Kerry...I still am not a huge fan of the video but respect them for doing something THEY like), if you had X million of dollars to spend on a video, and it was your fifteen minutes of fame, would you rather put something together that some tweens/teens/twentysomethings kind of sort of liked (or heck, they really liked) but was not something that you loved (and would disappear from public view in a week...seriously....I'd be really surprised if anyone talks about what they think of this video next week...unless there's some OTHER drama that comes up). Or do something that included all your friends/labelmates, the tweens/teens/twentysomethings hated, and you looked back on 20 years later and remember your fifteen minutes of fame with laughter and happiness.
I know I'd take doing something that I like and look back on with good memories. Could care less about you all. :)
Edit: Oh...but I'd definately leave out the product placement. Damn corporate types.

i was at the video shoot as an extra(thank goodness i am not visible), and its awesome to finally see the final product. i had no clue what the fuck was going on or what the storyline was when we were filming. the thing had the potential to be amazing while t hey were filming, and I think they did a great job putting it all together into such a short time frame. my only complaint is the ending. just seemed to leave us all hanging and didnt finish the story off.
on the set, the guys said that the label did not back this video treatment at all and didnt give the band much money for it, so they band had to shell out the rest of the money to get it done, perhaps the reason for the product placement.
and pete mentioned wanting to do an even longer version of the video. haha.

It's in the middle range. It's more than a music video, but less than Thriller. They really could've done an extended cut for a feature on a FOB DVD or something. Either way, that's cool that you were an extra.

Well, I appreciate what they tried to do there, but I just have to agree with everyone who said that the video didn't really splice with the song... I mean I can forgive it not reflecting the songs content exactly (sugar we're going down didn't) - but I wish they wouldn't have spliced the audio out so frequently...

what happened to quality albums?
They exist all over the place, what happend to listening to them?

And, thus, I like a band a hundred times more talented and creative than Fall Out Boy.

omg that was a shit video. what the hell? they might as well leave all that stuff for the dvd I'm sure they'll release soon (if they haven't yet) to make some more bucks. the song was almost background music. that's not a music video. don't get me wrong, i've liked fob for years....but seriously

i'm sorry, i think this band is really cool, and great at what they do, and visually, i think this video looks amazing. but is this really a music video? is there even a song in here? they cut it up and put all the dialogue and sound effects in, it's like a cool short film, but in no way is this a MUSIC video.

Man, it must suck to be Pete Wentz sometimes. Poor guy. He's probably on here right now reading these harsh comments about a video the guy put his all into. Give the guy a break.
Yeah, we know the video sucks, and we know they're really overrated now, but the only thing that really pissed me off was the SUV's and cellphones. fuck the product placement. BARF.
I got hints of A Clockwork Orange BIGTIME in this thing when Brendan and William came onscreen. That was pretty cool.

that video kinda sucked huge...
i watched blade trinity tonight, and it was like the same thing... but with a little less bad acting.
and to the guy who defended pete and said give him a break, this is what he gets for being famous, if he hates it so much then quit FOB and go live in montana or something... or he could stop taking pictures of his dick and burning bridges with his old friends.

Ok, my take on this...
TTTYG was amazing, a great pop punk album, I thought it was better than FUTCT, way better.
I have gone off FOB since the release of that album, it has some great songs but not enough to make it an amazing album. BUT... having said that
I read all the criticism about this video and thought ahhh it's gonna be an epic failure. But I watched it and I am very impressed. The whole idea of a music video is that it's a promo video. I think it does more promotion for the song than any video I've seen. OK you don't hear all of it, you hear clips, tasters if you will, which I think will encourage people to seek out the song on CD a lot more than if you just hear the straight song in a video. Because in all the other instances people might just think, ooh I can't wait til it comes on TV again.
Yeah it might be seen as a little cheesy but it's ambitious. There aren't many other bands trying to do this. Putting all other things aside about Fall Out Boy for a second, I respect that they had the guts / arrogance to make this kind of video.
As for it being a bit like thriller... I don't see it myself, the fact that it's a short film for a promo video yes but I'd say that's where the comparisons end. And even if it is a nod towards thriller, I wouldn't call it plagiarism, more of their way of a tribute. I mean c'mon, most music videos are the way they are, hell most songs are the way they are because of something that is already in existence. It's not a new thing, bands have always done it, as I say it's a kind of tribute. Look at The Smiths, you could accuse them of countless acts of plagiarism, Morrissey used bits of songs / literature he loved, it was a tribute.
So yeah... I like the video, it's a very good idea for a promotional video.
Good work.

i like it and i like the way the lead singers of TAI..., P!ATD, and GCH are all in it
I knew I wasn't going crazy. I thought I recognized them. I wonder why they didn't mention them on TRL or Making the Video.

okay, i read all the trash talk and then all the praise then watched it.
needless to say i love it.
it's refreshing. in a music video landscape of closets and being part of a mix this is really is good.
low big budget, fob is big but not rkelly big so they get what money they can.
and if all the phones in the video were SLVR's or razors you all would still have a heyday about product placement.
if your going that far to bitch at a band for phones why not call pete wentz a staunch evangelical christian for having two crosses in the video.
let these guys have there day. (if) when you get yours (day) you would want a nice pat on the back for following a dream you had.
there, my two cents.
i'm going to watch it again now.
