2009 AP Tour Fall Ball (Official Thread) [Archive]

Didn't see an official thread yet, so I figured that I'd start one.

Check out all of the information here (http://www.altpress.com/specials/theaptour/).

So it looks to be a pretty good lineup this year. The five bands playing are
1. You Me At Six
2. The Secret Handshake
3. Set Your Goals
4. The Academy Is...
5. Mayday Parade.

So, discuss your thoughts on the tour and once the tour starts put up some reviews and what not.

i'd like to go to this for Set Your Goals and Mayday Parade. i wouldn't mind seeing The Academy Is again either, but i have a feeling they're going to mostly play songs of their latest album which would suck.

Yup. I saw TAI last year at Warped to be depressed with songs from Santi and the always annoying, "About a Girl" and "Summer Hair = Forever Young." They played "Classifieds" and a few other songs from Almost Here. Set Your Goals is my favorite band and Mayday is my 3rd favorite behind SYG and Hit The Lights. I don't know too much You Me At Six and The Secret Handshake, but I kinda like what I've heard so far. I'll probably get their albums and get to know the songs so I enjoy every band playing.

Meh, Ive seen Mayday Parade 3 times. Ive seen TAI too, but I guess I could see SYG. I dont know, its this or DGD for my October concert, so I think Im going with DGD. You take what you can get in Omaha.

I have a choice between this and Warped. I'll most likely take this because I won't have to miss a whole day of school and I swore to myself that I wouldn't die without seeing SYG. I want to see Hit The Lights and A Day To Remember really bad, but I just can't go without seeing Set Your Goals.

I mean, since you like all of the bands on this tour, it makes sense. Im sure SYG will tour with another band you like later on, but still; if you like them, see them.

for some reason, Last.fm keeps recommending this band to me. so i finally checked them out and was really not impressed. i've never heard You Me At Six, though.

I can listen to Santi and not cringe. Seed and Chop Chop are kinda the ones that drive me crazy. I like LAX to O'Hare and Same Blood. Everything We Had is probably my favorite off of the album. Fast Times is just the album that I think sucks. His Girl Friday was the only one that I sort of didn't hate.

Besides Set Your Goals and You Me At Six, it's very boring. I've already seen Mayday Parade twice, The Secret Handshake is nothing to write home about live, and I can't stand The Academy Is... so yeah...

Who cares who "fits in" and who doesn't? I'm a huge SYG fan, but I don't have a problem with TSH. I am a huge Mayday fan too. I guess it's just personal preference, but I wouldn't stay home and miss one of my favorite bands just because somebody I don't like is coming on before them.

TAI has already gone as far south as I think they can go. When Fast Times was released, I had a hard time finishing listening to it. As far as I'm concerned, when they release a new album, it can only get better than the last one.

TAI has already gone as far south as I think they can go. When Fast Times was released, I had a hard time finishing listening to it. As far as I'm concerned, when they release a new album, it can only get better than the last one.
Agreed. Those guys are too good of songwriters to be making albums like Fast Times.

Anyways, I seriously love this tour. Mayday and TAI are two of my absolute favorites and You Me at Six is great, too. TSH is meh, and I haven't listened to much Set Your Goals, but what I've heard sounds pretty sweet.

I do wish they would have put somebody else other than The Secret Handshake in. They really don't "fit in" now that I think about it more and more. Only electro-pop band playing amongst nothing but pop punk and SYG. (I consider SYG pop punk, but a different form of pop punk.) I don't know who it would have been instead, but they could have done a little better.

I'm in the opposite boat to most people here I imagine, I've seen You Me At Six more times than I can remember! Lately I've been listening to Take Off Your Colours a lot, and finding that I'm liking it a lot more than I did first time round.

Seen all the other bands at least once before, but still really looking forward to Toronto.

Same here. The singer slurs the lyrics a bit, but I still think they're a great band. The Secret Handshake's the only band that I'm not looking forward to.

I'll probably go for The Academy Is... and Set Your Goals and just go ahead and overlook all of the Fast Times stuff that TAI... will inevitably play haha (because I know I'll act like a sixteen year old when they play Slow Down and other Almost Here stuff haha).
I'm excited that TAI... and SYG are touring together though, it's a little unusual, but I love both so it works out for me.

I still think it's a cool concept. There's a local Chicago band that does that, and they dress up too. Cummerbund and all (well, just the singer.) The Frantic played State and Madison's Fall Formal this year, and they wore "blood" stained dress shirts. It was an interesting twist on the idea, though a little creepy.

I'm so stoked for this because SYG didn't come to Philly on the Gig Life tour, and TAI is really good live. Its just gonna be funny when the pit for SYG opens up because it will be completely different from the other times I've seen them (at warped last, with Saves The Day, and with New Found Glory, all which have very different fan bases from this).

After catching the end of You Me At Six at Warped Tour, I really want to go to this. I just don't know how to (logistically). Though I think it sounds like a fun tour. I like the idea of the Fall Ball concept. Do you think anybody going would actually dress up?
Yes, the 15 year old girls who want on Bill Becket. But, hey, it's a step up from some of the neon shit they wear. Unless people wear neon dresses...

But I have seen all three of them already.

They're great live, aren't they?
They're more of a 'live' band in my opinion.

I'll agree. I'd only heard Jealous Minds Think Alike before that, but I felt like live they were pretty awesome. I didn't really here them recorded much until after that.

TAI and Mayday Parade mostly. TAI is great live and I've wanted to see Mayday Parade for a while now. I bought the SYG CD the other day and haven't listened to it yet.

I don't think so. Last time I saw them, the only song they played off of TTBDF was Three Cheers For Five Years. I'm really not a fan of One Man Drinking Games. Mayday's new stuff on the myspace is somewhat disappointing to me, but we'll see when the album comes out.

It's awesome. If you're a fan of Reset, I think you'll love TWBTDOU. Though, I am a little biased. :-)

hopefully AP can get some good bands for the winter AP Tour, last year it was The Maine, 3oh!3 and Family Force 5 headlining it was sick

Really? I've seen ATL and Mayday, and I have to say, that I thought Mayday was a better performance. ATL was good, but I only enjoyed Dear Maria.

im not a big fan of mayday parade like i am of ATL so thats probably why id rather see ATL. but i do like The Academy Is, and its at House of Blues which is a great place for a concert

I've now been handed the decision of going here or Warped. I really don't know what to do. If I go to the AP Tour, I feel like I'd only be going for SYG (my favorite band). I've already seen Mayday and TAI. I'm not a fan of TSH, and YMAS is playing warped also. Plus, Hit The Lights is my second favorite band, and they are basically the first band that I fell in love with. I've never seen them, and I feel like I need to see them. I'm sure SYG will come back around. Anybody have an opinion on what I should do?
