usually the singer gets the most attention regardless of how much actual writing or whatever they do in the band... but there are always exceptions

The reason Nightmare of You isn't on Drive-Thru is simple, Drive-Thru didn't like them that much, so they said "Ok, go off and do your own thing", essentially. Vinnie also wasn't forced into releasing it on DTR, though I'm sure he felt some pressure because of the clause.
