The Hold Steady (http://www.theholdsteady.com/) have signed (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/06-03/15.shtml#holdsteady) to Vagrant Records (http://www.vagrant.com).

This could be great for Vagrant. As for the Hold Steady, I'm hoping their plan was to lose as many hipster fans as possible, because otherwise this really makes no sense to me. Either way, Craig Finn is an absolute genius.

Whoa.

That's news.

I fucking love this band.

I fucking love Vagrant.

But they don't mix.

i saw this band with the Get up kids and i really thought they sucked...very amateur sounding. but pitchfork seems to sweat em so i want to hear them on record...maybe it was just an off night or something

am i the only one who thinks this a fitting on both parts?

i didn't at first, but the pitchfork article made a good point that paul westerberg put out several albums with vagrant and the replacements are definitely one of the hold steady's biggest influences. so yeah... it makes sense.

and to many of the people on this thread...

i realize who my audience is here.... the majority of kids on this website are zit-faced 15 year olds who are only interested in hearing music about tearing out the eyes of girls who don't find them attractive, but show a little respect for what the hold steady has done, even if it's not your personal preference in music.

no band has ever so mastefully mixed the street poetry of bruce springsteen, the hard riff rock of led zepellin, and the drunken self deprication of the replacements with such unique delivery.

saw them with tguk and i thought they were good. and that bruce springsteen reference above, i thought the same thing when i saw them.

moreso than labels like drive-thru or victory, vagrant has a more diverse collection of music.

you couldn't be further from the truth. i haven't heard much from the hold steady, but i absolutely love craig finn's old projects (lifter puller, the brokerdealer). give this guy a chance.

No, they love The Blood Brothers over there. Check the reviews for BPIB and Crimes. Read their P!ATD review though... they seriously rip that band apart the way they deserve.
