View Full Version : Secret Fall Out Boy Show Photos

By no means am I a professional photgrapher; however, I took some photos at the "secret" Fall Out Boy (http://www.falloutboyrock.com) show that occured on March 3rd, 2006 at The Knitting Factory in NYC. You can see those here (http://www.absolutepunk.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=75&userid=13330). I admire this band for sticking to their roots and giving back to their fans after all their recent success; this band loves nothing more than being on stage and performing, which you can tell just by watching them.

I'd be true to my fans too when it's such a surprise that people enjoy the music.
I didn't like their old albums, I thought FUCT was pretty decent, but then I saw them live and realized they're horrendous. Hard to respect "musicians" who aren't that.

Alright, honest opinion from those who have seen them: are they worth seeing live at all? I live in satan's asscrack, so any show of theirs is super far away, and the several times I've seen them on TV, they've blown worse than..well, you can insert whatever lewd sexual thing that pops into your mind. But seriously, what do you all say?

Theyve always been good live when Ive seen them. And Ive seen them 4 times. They suck on TV compared to live. If youve never seen them Id say its worth the drive no doubt.

I have yet to figure out if they are:
a) Bad at playing their songs live because they try to be so cool, (or)
b) Try to be cool because they're so bad at playing their songs live.
Either way, they like to jump around and spin and swing their guitars and miss notes and stuff.

for the people who are saying don't judge outdoor sets i think thats a bit bogus. i mean sure there are always reason why each performance should be taking with a grain of salt.
however if a band can perform outdoors at festivals or the warped tour and be flawless (im looking at you treos, gatsbys, and circa) then why shouldnt others.

I personally think that outdoor sets depend on a lot of luck. There are so many factors that play into how a band sounds outdoor, especially compared to indoors. If a band can sound well outdoors, all the more power to them, but I think there are too many things outside of a band's control that can mess up the sound of a outdoor show to make it your sole judgment on how they are live.

Dude, for all the shit people talk on that singer from fall out boy, that guy from Thursday really can't sing to save his life. As for the rest of them, they play as badly as FOB, the only difference is the songwriting (and you can take that either way). Both bands thrash around and don't really play much of their instruments.

this band loves nothing more than being on stage and performing, which you can tell just by watching them.
and being complete douchebags with absolutely no talent, which you can also tell just by watching them. People need to quit glorifying a band just because they play a show "for their fans". It's not like they didn't get paid for it, or that they wouldn't normally play in New York.

First, the band looks ecstatic and glad to be on stage performing every time I've seen them -- I respect that. But, yeah, they made as much money doing this show as they would if they had played Madison Square Garden. You're a genius. Where'd you go to school? I want to enroll there.

here is the thing about fall out boy...i've seen them five times.
they are at their best when they are in a small club. there is less room for joe and pete to run around and do their spins. the first show i ever saw them at, pete threw his bass over his shoulder right into his amp. to me, this lack of space makes them play their instruments.
seeing them at house of blues on the fueled by ramen tour they have too much room to run around and not play. and seeing as how most people got into fall out boy as they were rising to fame (on the taking back sunday tour, the fueled by ramen tour) and seeing thm play horribly on tv...you don't understand how good they can be live when they want to be.
i was also at the hard rock live taping, and that sounded good b/c mtv had the time to set everything up the way they wanted.

I agree with your 3cent. Ive seen them at small venues warped and hob. they were great at the small venue, warped was good just because they had to be near the front of the stage standing somewhat still just to even be seen, and hob while good energy sucked just because there was way too much room for them to goof off. i still like them live tho.

Both are major players in different genres of the music industry. Their musical talents brought them to different styles but both have lead to success. Neither is in a different "league."
I thought I heard somewhere that indie is the new emo just like emo was the new punk and punk was the new underground.

The people dictate what's popular. And by people, I mean the target audience - which in this case is 13-25 year olds. If Fall Out Boy didn't make catchy music, if it was generally unaccepted, if that fanbase wasn't there... there would be no TRL appearances or V-Cast sponsored videos. Fall Out Boy's a pop punk band no matter what way you slice it. I don't get why people get so upset over the fact that these bands are popular. Would I keep them my little secret like they were a few years back if I could? Absolutely. There's something comforting about that. But you have to face reality and not turn your back on a band because of the success the fans have lifted them to.

Yea and the best qoute of all is from the singer after he made sugar we are going down he said to the drummer "I just paid for your kids college tuition" really genuine intentions fall out boy.
Why don't you honestly stop trying to prove how much you hate them and how much they suck live? What revelation have you made here, Mr. Cool? You realize the band has said THEMSELVES they're not that good live, right? You realize a million other people have stated they "suck live," right? I admit they're not the best sounding live band, especially as the venues they're in get bigger and bigger; however, I give them mad props for giving their all and a ton of energy every set they perform. In regards to this show, though, the band was really really good. It was probably the tiny venue, though; either way, they sounded great and were really on. I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of the band or "want to be cool with them and they know my name" or whatever point it was you were trying to make -- I sincerely / honestly believe that. And no, I'm not paid to be their PR dude -- at least not yet; I'm waiting for Jay-Z's phone call. I just get tired of everyone on here ragging on them and saying the same thing over and over. So, if everyone can spew off at the mouth all these negative things, then don't I have the right to defend them and state positive things about them that I feel / think? Um, I'm going to answer for you -- YES, yes I can, especially since I'm staff. And in regards to what was said to their drummer, you obviously don't know the band's sense of humor. Go to your local store (i.e. Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) and pick-up some batteries or something because I think you have a faulty Humor/Sarcasm Detector.

I love that people who hate this band so much know more "insider information" about their private conversations than even I know. I'm a fan of the band and don't follow them as closely as some of the kids that hate them do ...
Geez people. Who the hell cares? I could see you getting mad about somethings, but why FOB? Seriously? They've gone from nothing to HUGE, what did they do wrong? Uh, sold albums?! Fickle people are just sad ...

It's true, they suck live.
Check out some killer live bands:
Thursday, Thrice, AFI, Boys Night Out, The Offspring, Chiodos, Saosin, The Academy Is..., Jack's Mannequin, Acceptance, Underoath, Story Of The Year, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Something Corporate, Yellowcard, Mae, Motion City Soundtrack, Plain White Ts, Every Time I Die, Brand New, Billy Talent, Dropkick Murphys, Dashboard Confessional.. just some random bands I've seen in the last few years who played amazing shows. I tried to include a few different styles, because I'm not sure what you're into.

I've seen practically all those bands and I'd, personally, put FOB's earlier shows up with many of the ones you listed.

while i think its great that you love this band so much i think that what you said about everyone saying the same thing about them can be said for you too....i mean like...sure every fall out boy post is replied with a thousand 'awesome i love this bands' as well as a bunch of 'fall out boy sucks' (myself included)
im just saying that its not the fall out boy haters who are saying the same things over and over again, both sides are having the same stupid fights.
and jason, i dont wanna be proud of them going from nothing to something because i think there are bands out there who are much more original or talented who've been working a lot longer and haven't gotten anywhere. *sorry if that sounded like an attack, it was really just a statement about why i dont give them props for thier success.

ive seen them live about what has to be 9-10 times and they the best when they were on the mest tour... their milwaukee stop for that tour was insane. they played really well and had a shit ton of energy... the last time i saw them tho, with gym class heroes, they weren't all that great. but there's prolly only like 2 times ive seen them when they haven't been anything short of awesome

cant sing
why's he always got a microphone in his hands
Dude, for all the shit people talk on that singer from fall out boy, that guy from Thursday really can't sing to save his life. As for the rest of them, they play as badly as FOB, the only difference is the songwriting (and you can take that either way). Both bands thrash around and don't really play much of their instruments.
I've never seen Thursday run around the stage and neglect whole sections of songs like FOB. Every time I've seen Thursday (3 or 4 times), I thought they were dead on.
