I know that this basic sort of thread has been done before, possibly multiple times, but new users are joining all the time, and the favorite albums could change for some people, so no reason why this can't be done again.

(To be honest, I just want a bunch of albums to check out because I'm in the mood to expand my rather limited knowledge of good music. I could see some good discussion coming out of this, though, as well as some discoveries for other people.)

Oh, and yes, this is "favorite," not "best." Important distinction for sure.

1.) dc Talk - Jesus Freak
2.) Brand New - The Devil and G-d are Raging Inside Me
3.) As Cities Burn - Come Now, Sleep
4.) mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister
5.) Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance

There are recent favorites that I might rank higher than some of these, but they're albums that I haven't digested enough to consider all time favorites.

EDIT: This is somewhat out of date, but I'll go ahead and keep it here, just 'cause it's fun to see old posts and whatnot. Yep.

dc talk!? really!!!? Artist in the Ambulance!!? really!!? I might be able to justify the others based on your explanation

Maybe those two albums came around at the right time and had a huge impact on the OP.

Thrice's AITA is one of my favorites because of the fact it got me into the underground and in some ways helped me become the person that I am today.

Well, I'm not sure what this post is supposed to mean, but...

Maybe those two albums came around at the right time and had a huge impact on the OP.

Thrice's AITA is one of my favorites because of the fact it got me into the underground and in some ways helped me become the person that I am today.

...what he said. I grew up listening to Jesus Freak. It was the album that made me fall in love with music, and I still love every part of it. As for The Artist in the Ambulance, the title track and "Stare at the Sun" are reason enough for it to be a favorite of mine. Those two songs hit me at just the right time lyrically, "Artist" especially, and they will thus always be among my favorite songs ever written.

Would anyone be interested in making more full fledged lists? I started a top 50 a few weeks ago and have slowly been editing it. I've had a good time trying to do it though

next 5 probably:

6. Marvelous 3 - Readysexgo!
7. Butch Walker - Sycamore Meadows
8. The Wallflowers - Bringing Down the Horse
9. Third Eye Blind - S/T
10. Counting Crows - August & Everything After

I know, lots of Butch Walker.

Like a year ago, maybe less, the music forum went through a series of 'The Music Forum's Favorite Albums/Artists of all time and of each decade. Search for those threads and you can spearhead your own.

Doing a top five is tough but here goes:

Incubus - Morning View
Norma Jean - Bless The Martyr and Kiss the Child
Underoath - Define The Great Line
mewithoutYou - Catch For Us The Foxes (honestly, I could rotate this record and Brother, Sister. Both are huge for me.)
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (This record hit me at a perfect time this year.)
Deftones - White Pony
New Found Glory - New Found Glory
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Anberlin - Cities

I know that was more than five, but those are the ones that have really influential to me. It changes often as I am sure it does for most people.

i can't pick my favorites of all-time but right now i really like these:

1. Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
2. Cursive - Domestica
3. The Strokes - Is This It
4. Metric - Fantasies
5. Jenny Lewis - Rabbit Fur Coat

Jesus Freak was my jam in middle school. Now, not so much.

I think anyone who was a Christian and liked rock music in the 90s jammed to Jesus Freak at some point or another.

1. Emery - The Weak's End
2. Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety
3. As Cities Burn - Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest
4. Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
5. Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends

That's a pretty unpopular album to be your favorite, lol.

Four out of ten isn't THAT much for my favorite artist of all time.

Fair enough.

I spilled it all over my beige v-neck and played it off as a deliberate, ironic new fashion trend.

... *goes out to buy a beige v-neck and a latte to deliberately spill all over it*

Two of these came out in the past couple months...I'm not trying to question your love for them, but don't you think you want to spend more time with the records before you call them two of the best albums you've ever heard in your life?

I definitely agree with this. There are albums I've just discovered, or that just came out, that I may like more than the albums in my top 5, but you definitely need some time with an album before you can consider it an all time favorite. The initial excitement has to die down so that you can see how much lasting value it has.

Their greatest hits were mine as well, but I got Jesus Freak right afterwards. Back in like 5th grade, my brother and I used to jam to a tape that just had "Jesus Freak" and Jars of Clay's "Flood" on repeat. Oh, the nostalgia those songs give me...

If only they could reunite so I could see them live, just once. Toby Mac does NOT work without Kevin and Michael. :/

1.) Not at all. Just an observation.
2.) I usually think of The Question as their most popular, though I do like The Weak's End more as an album from start to finish. Now that I think of it, though, it's not that unpopular. Not like I'm Only a Man.

mate it just pisses me off, when people have a go at subjective opinions, i couldve fudged it like half the people usually do and put some other bands they i like in my 5 that may have "more cred" in snobbier circles, but i decided to be genuinely honest with the 5 albums ive listened to the most since i was a little fella and people like u have a go at it

im happy for people to have a go at fred durst, but u cant deny the band are talented musicians and make some fun tunes and Korn did some revolutionary things with to heavy music in the mid 90s

The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Type O Negative - October Rust

Also, can we make a few rules for this thread and stop people from posting albums from the last 6 months? This thread is about all time favorites, not stuff you're currently spinning. It just seems stupid to me for people to post stuff that might not even stand the test of time for them. This rule could go in with others (like not being allowed to choose greatest hits albums and stuff.)

2.) Brand New - The Devil and G-d are Raging Inside Me

(One being the best)
1. Throne to the Wolves by From First to Last
2. Witness by Blessthefall
3. His Last Walk by Blessthefall
4. Scream Aim Fire by Bullet for my Valentine
5. Someday Came Suddenly by Attack Attack(I got flamed to death on Facepunch for liking this band)

How could I flame a 13 year old kid who's actually got an interest in music? I can't say those are my fav albums in the world, but hey. Don't let anyone bash you for your taste. I actually really admire young kids that are actively seeking out music. In this shithole of a city, they ALL listen to Kottonmouth Kings, ICP, and various Top 40.

Like what you wanna like, kiddo. By the time you're 20, you'll have such a great knowledge in music that you'll have the right to flame whoever you want. :)

As for my Top 5 of ALL time? Well, I'm gonna list some that I don't listen to anymore, but they've been so influential that they need to be in my Top 5.

5. North-Something Corporate
4. Collide-Skillet
3. The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me-Brand New
2. Great White Whale- Secret & Whisper
1. Illuminate-Lydia

Haha thanks. Unfortunately most of my favorites are by bands that are broken up. I'm just hoping for a new Avalanche record and looking forward to new TBS and Blink.
