Paint It Black - Amnesia
Record Label: Bridge 9 Records
Release Date: June 16, 2009

Who?

Paint It Black is a hardcore/punk band out of Philadelphia fronted by Dan Yemin of Lifetime and Kid Dynamite fame. The band was originally formed in 2002 some time after Yemin suffered from a stroke. As a result, they can be accurately described as emotionally charged. Musically, they're not a far deviation from Kid Dynamite's fast-paced songs but with Yemin's caustic vocals and poignant lyrics. Having realized that no good hardcore band releases more then three full-lengths, the band has decided to exclusively release 7"s in the foreseeable future. Amnesia is the first of two 7" EPs that the band will release this year, the second being Surrender.

How is it?

Amnesia's five tracks in under ten minutes run the gauntlet of hardcore/punk. A logical step in the band's progression, album opener "Salem" is the most abrasive song the band has written. It's followed by "Homesick," "Nicotine," and "Amnesia," a trio more like the Paint It Black we know and love; the band that can write a great melodic hardcore tune. At three and a half minutes, closing romp "Bliss" is the longest track in the band's catalog. It's a bit of a deviation for the group, showing a slightly softer, more experimental side. I'd be perfectly happy if the band continues releasing short and sweet EPs like this for the rest of their career.

Kid Dynamite, The Suicide File, Minor Threat, Shook Ones, None More Black, Lifetime

This.

Great, short and sweet review.
Except I think it's supposed to be 'fast-paced' not 'face-paced' haha.

Haha good call, even though face-paced sounds better. Like so-fast-paced-it-will-melt-your-face.

That's why I wasn't entirely sure it was a mistake haha. It should definitely be an actual phrase though haha.

That's cool that they're not going to be releasing full lengths anytime soon. I learn the songs a lot better when the albums are shorter. I remember listening to the PIB demo over and over again, even though it was just like 5 minutes long.

Yeah, I've found that EPs tend to resonate more with me than full-lengths.
