Good stuff.....and I almost totally agree with what he said about the bands on Warped. Last year, I didnt really know what to do since there weren't that many bands I wanted to see.

I will def miss the Ataris that I grew to love with their pop punk sound, but I am looking foward to hearing this new stuff.

i wonder if they are going to play much of "blue skies..." if kris isn't really into the music anymore.

I'm just gonna throw something out there, and i do it because i wonder how people will respond to it, but from everything i have read of him, kris seems to have a really skewed sense of his own importance. Like i love the ataris, i paid real money for every one of their albums, there are maybe 3 other bands i can say that about, and kris's music definitely had a huge influence on me, but i dont really seem to get him trashing all the current power pop stuff. EARLY Ataris was definitely groundbreaking and a forward progression, but i don't really see so long astoria as a groundbreaking record. I think it is probably the cd i have listened to the most in my lifetime, but thats largely because it combines the progressions of others, and in many ways regressed (and eliminates a lot of progressive stuff i personally didnt like) from blue skies ect. I think welcome to the night will be awesome, but i think kris seems like a rockstar who might not be that much fun to sit down and have a beer with.

well like he said hes not in it for the money. he is just trying to make some money doing what he loves and not make millions

i love the atatris, but does anyone remember the interveiw where kris ranted on about never signing to a major etc. it just seems he had more passion then for an over all perspective than he odes now. dont get me wrong i still think he has passion etc, but yeh what someone said above he seems more likea rockstar, than a people's person like he used to be.

Good interview, very informative...like interviews should be. It does sound like Kris has really changed as a person, especially in the sense of what inspires him. I don't really think he's "trashing" pop-punk bands that are out there today, it just sounds like he knows what he wants and the direction he wants his band to go in. He's just "over" that stuff now. People change, along with the things they like and dislike, and with that...bring on the new shit!

i, however, think kris is pigeonholing himself even more. to think that the same audience that pedro the lion or jets to brazil had is going to listen to the ataris is laughable.while i'm now saying the music is going to be good or bad, i just think he'll be highly disappointed when he doesn't reach the status of "indierock god"

I am so looking forward to this record. Definitely one of the most anticipated of the year. This interview was quite good too. It's awesome to bands evolve and take a risk by changing their sound or something crazy like making your band a 7-piece. I hope this record is amazing.

Kris Roe should give the classic Ataris sound some respect and just change the name for the new seven piece band to "Kris Roe And The Ataris". To call them the Ataris still would be in injustice to all of the fans that loved Blue Skies and End Is Forever. Kris Roe broke my fuckin heart when he went off the deep end. And don't denie that he didn't.

i am sure i am going to get ragged out as being a complete and total douchebag, but what happened to the bass player and the drummer? i havent really been keeping up to date with the ataris? anyone know the story? or is it just as kris said and that kid left and the bassplayer was into some stupid shit and they asked him to leave? i didnt see an announcement about it.

hes turned into such a fuckin prima donna, he has a huge fucking sence of self importance. He talks so much shit about everything, but yet he still cashes those residual checks from kung fu. I got to meet him at down on hailey a few years ago, and, like, I love the ataris, ive seen them like 10 times, have all sorts of shit, hell, i have an ataris tatoo, but hes just turned into a fucking cunt. He used to talk about the ataris being his family, more then friends, like brothers to him, but then he forced out Marco (marcos words), is such a ass to Kid he leaves the band (kids words) and goes out and talks about Mikies adiction after kicking him out of the band, cause, you know the best way to help somebody when there in a situation like that is to kick them out of there support structure. Hes such a fucking winner now

i dont want to go off saying how right or wrong you are, but i think you are somewhat right. i asked kid and mike why they left the band and they said it was more of kris's decision than anything. i still love the ataris though. i have to no matter how much kris will change.

i think kris is totally right about everything he stated in that interview. he as a musician wants to venture into a different genre because he's gotten bored with all this pop punk/emo/whatever stuff. and, just like many of his fans - who knew them from the beginning are into their early 20's now - his tastes musically have changed. i'm exactly the same way, just finding this punk scene stagnant and going out and finding other bands. i back him 100% on his current direction and think he's said what a lot of other people out there are thinking, and acting upon it

So does that change the fact that Kris Roe sold out the original sound of the Ataris?...It seems that you are kind of backing my point.
