My strong point is writing. I was looking at English major, but it doesn't seem like you get a job easily coming out of that, besides teaching...

Yeah I wouldn't suggest an English major. What are you interested in?

This is something that you should talk over with your guidance counselor/parents/friends about, not some random people over the internet who don't know you.

From everything I can gather, you sound perfectly suited for Chemical Engineering.

write a kick as book.

seriosuly you have to really think long and hard about what you wanna do and how it will provide for you in the future.money isn't everything blah blah blah but be realistic. There are a lot of English teachers out there, and English is one of those subjects where you have to prove yourself.
Are you ok in math and science? try to look into those fields and see where writing can fit in.

You seriously want us to tell you what major you should choose when all you've said is that you like writing? Wtf?

I was interested in all the same things you were though when I want into college, and I've now settled into a Computer Science major (which I absolutely love). Give a programming class a try, it's a good mix of philosophy and logic.

The top 15 highest-earning college degrees all have one thing in common -- math skills.

According to this article, 12 of those degrees are engineering, the other three are computer science, actuarial science, and construction management.

Keep in mind that these are starting salaries.

I graduated in May with an education degree and haven't been able to find a job for this school year. So good luck with that, too. Although hopefully by the time you graduate, the economy will be on the upswing and more jobs will be available.

Yeah, but there is only so much more you're going to make than those starting salaries in most of those fields unless you have a Ph.D. If you only care about money, business is where you go. If you work hard and stay dedicated, you can make a lot of money. Of course business is excruciately boring, but to each their own. I wouldn't worry so much about salary though.

Besides, judging from the one sentence you posted and the thread title, is writing/correct grammar really your thing? I'd say English isn't the way to go..

At least he didn't say he was thinking of majoring in Linguistics.

For those of you who think you can major in English and then get a teaching job right away, think again. You need a teaching license, which requires a degree in education or at least a semester of student teaching and a few additional pedagogy courses. And if you think it would be an easy career, consider that the best teachers work 60 hour weeks (at about $16/hour), do a majority of their work after hours (planning, gathering materials, etc.), and go to extracurricular activities, advise student organizations, attend professional development seminars, and more without getting paid. And that doesn't take into account the daily stress of dealing with anywhere from 30-125 children with different abilities and levels of interest in the subject matter, dealing with discipline problems, and dealing with parents who either think (a) their kid is God's gift to education or (b) the purpose of school is to parent their children so they don't have to. It's easy to be a bad teacher (and probably get fired after your first year, if not before); it takes a lot to be a good one.

edit: I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from teaching...just letting you know that it's far from a cakewalk.

business majors generally give you a lot of options when you graduate. i am majoring in organizational leadership with a minor in computer & information technology. mainly because im not positive what i want to do with my life and there are a lot of different jobs that i could pursue with those areas of expertise

It's good you don't have to have much grammatical knowledge for that field.

I went to school for Art History. What I am doing with my life now?...Working for a major financial mortgage company. Pay is fantastic. Workload....overwhelming!!!!!! Over-time guaranteed and very much needed. The best employment find ever. My Department in the business safeguards me from this broken economy.

Basically whatever you're going to pick as a major in college, somewhere down the road you'll com out doing something completely different. Just pick something you really like and stick with it and something is bound to fall into place and when you get into the real world after college sometimes the best way to get a job is through your friends. So networking helps tremendously.

Technical and Professional Communication is my emphasis. Name a business that doesn't need to communicate something to someone and I'll reevaluate it. :-p

I think (without reading the whole thread) that you should take a bunch of classes that interest you and do what feels right after that. I was in Computer Engineering for a year and I hated it. I felt like a number. All that mattered was numbers. It was depressing, so I got out, and changed degrees slightly to something that still involved technology but in a way that I felt was meaningful. I love my English classes.

Never go into Management Information Systems if you go into business...all that stuff is done over sea's now, it's all outsourced. It still gets taught at major Universities but there's no money in it over here.

One of my mom's friends doesn't pay for her schooling because she is getting an English she. She says it's pointless, and I kinda have to agree. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but what are you going to do with an english degree? Teaching is about all I can see it being useful for. Just my thoughts.

Journalism. I was going to school for that for a while. There are a lot of different ways you can go with a communications degree, such as writing for a local newspaper or a magazine.

If you're not good with numbers or understanding scientific concepts DO NOT go into math or science or you will really regret it.
