View Full Version : EPIC songs - please help!

Howdy folks,
I'm after some recommendations for really epic, massive-sounding songs that I may not have heard of that I should get off my ass and download.
If you're wondering what I'm talking about, I'm thinking tunes along the lines of 'Valkyrie Missile' by Angels and Airwaves.
I know, i'm not the biggest fan of the band either, let alone Delonge's whiney vocals, but that song is probably the best example of what I'm after.
I'm talking about the way it builds and builds, from the slow-burning, synth-heavy intro to the huge, anthemic crescendo that kicks in around the six-minute mark.
Hopefully that makes sense! Please, recommend away. Genre is irrelevant - punk, rock, pop, indie, hardcore, whatever. The bigger and more epic, the better.
Many thanks to all in advance!
X

In fact most of their music is based around crescendos so all of EITS would be good.
These songs are all done with great crescendos.
"...In 2050, When We Know We'll All Be Dead Anyway"- Because of Ghosts
The Battle of Mont Royal- Because of Ghosts
The Bending- Hopesfall
Freedom Blade- This Will Destroy You
Brutalism & The Worship of The Machine- This Will Destroy You
A Three Legged Work Horse- This Will Destroy You
So Many Cowboys, So Few Indians- The Samuel Jackson Five
How to Evade Your Over Obsessive Shadow- The Samuel Jackson Five
Most Mogwai songs
Most Bravo Fucking Bravo songs.
Oh and of course, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture

one of the best Aussie bands out there, I must say.
The climax of Jeff Buckley's Mojo Pin is awesome too. And while you're at it give Buckley's Eternal Life a listen too. Probably his most rambanctious song.

It's a cover song though. If you want to hear the original masterpiece then I suggest you get your hands on a copy of the "Walking Cloud and Deep Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined" album by Mono. The song Halcyon (Beautiful Days) in particular. Amazingly composed. Fightstar used the same guitar parts for their version.

I was trying to find a video on youtube of Jeff Buckley playing Hymne A L'Amour in Paris. I've a live audio recording of it. Gives me chills anytime I hear it.

Yeah I have an old cd/live album thing around here somewhere where he sings part of the song. It sounds amazing. Can't seem to find it anywhere on youtube though.. you'd think that site would have positively everything.
...and indeed. Good to hear from another one too :)
