Which is a more spiteful song? (or meaner whatever)

Is "Tell That Mick" about an actual person because I think everyone knows the story behind the Brand New song?

Don't apologise, i hope you choke and die.
So spiteful.

This is a really good poll... and a hard one too. "stop burning bridges and drive off of them, so I can forget about you." <--- that's pretty spiteful too. Kudos to both songs.

wait wait wait ! i wanabe filled in. what is 70x7 about or whos it about and whats the deal with cute without the "e". could someone fill me in?
it's about adam from tbs, and tbs's retaliation song is "there's no i in team," not "cute without the e."
ilovebsb
03/26/06, 07:14 PM
i dont get it though because cute without the "e" sounds like him getting cheated on some stupid slut. like what did the dude from brand new put the mack on adams girl? someone please explain more

it is theres no "i" in team.
tbs took the bridge part of seventy times seven and used it in that song without permission. but i didnt know that 70x7 was about John Nolan.

Seventy x 7 isn't about John Nolan. They shared the lyrics. It was a Long Island thing. And I don't think they stole the lyrics...but I could be wrong. I had second hand knowledge..
And anything is better than Fall Out Boy.

yeah, i didnt think it was about Nolan either. But i think that TBS did steal the lyrics, cause that's supposedly what alot of "Okay I Believe You..." is about.
i.e- these are the words you wish you wrote down.
this is the way you wish your voice sounds.

yea they have been for a long time, they even toured together wayyyyyyyyyyy wayyyy back, and they were cool until the whole TBS split, where Adam did whatever which they called creative differences and Nolan and Shaun formed Straylight and now Brand New and Straylight hates TBS as do alot of people
correct me if any of that is wrong

I love how nobody even gives a shit about FOB. It makes me laugh hysterically. Realistically, though whatever happened between BN and TBS was for the best because we got some amazing songs out of the ordeal.

04/02/06, 08:19 PM
This shouldn't even be a poll.
Brand New's worst song is better than FOB's best song. Brand New is about real stuff. FOB's lyrics are just little catch phrases that don't even make sense put together.
Apocalypse Now

I love both songs, and they both are incredibly hateful.
"Have another drink and drive yourself home, hope there's ice on all the roads, and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt and again when your head goes through the window" - Brand New
"I hope you choke on those words, that kiss, that bottle - confess (So bury me in memory). Now ash yourself, yeah, out on the insides, said I loved you but I lied" - Fall Out Boy
I sort of think everyone goes with Brand New:
a. because it's the cool thing to hate on FOB, even if that song's from their old album, before they "sold-out"
b. because everyone knows the story of the Brand New/Taking Back Sunday drama fest.
c. because everyone who loves Brand New, is going to pick Brand New, and everyone who loves FOB won't pick them because their afraid to get torn to peices by the people on this board.
I love both Brand New and Fall Out Boy, but I voted for Fall Out Boy, because no one voted for FOB.

How do people here seriously not know what actually went on???
Anyway here is the deal....
Jesse Lacey and John Nolan grew up together, played in bands together, and were/are really good friends. John hooked up with Jesse's girlfriend. Jesse wrote 70x7 about John and Taking Back Sunday wrote "There Is No I In Team" in response to 70x7. Jesse and John had made up however, which explains the sharing of the lyrics in the bridge (Long Island bands from around the same time as Brand New and TBS liked to create lyric pools where they would share ideas and what not). There is no longer any bad blood between Jesse and John, and there hasn't been in a long time. Neither song has anything to do with Adam at all.

Brand New made the "Mics are for singing, not swinging" shirts right after John (Jesse's good friend) and Shaun left TBS. This was a shot at Adam. TBS retaliated with their "Proudly Swinging..." shirts. After the drama between Taking Back Sunday and their ex-members (John and Shaun) died down, all parties just got over it and moved on.
The t-shirts have absolutely no relation to "Seventy x 7" or "Theres no I in Team."

Oh don't be such a martyr. Maybe people picked Brand New because it's a better song. I hate it when people say, "Oh, you just hate Fall Out Boy because it's cool to." Maybe they just think that Fall Out Boy is shit. I happen to like Fall Out Boy. I happen to like Brand New as well. But just because a person doesn't like fall out boy, doesn't mean they're doing it to be cool.
I don't mean to blow up on you, it's just something that generally bugs me, and I pounced on this specific post.

on the basis of those two songs, i choose seventy times 7. as bands, fall out boy absolutelyyyy. tttyg is such an angry cd, lyrically.
Is "Tell That Mick" about an actual person because I think everyone knows the story behind the Brand New song?
yes. all of tttyg is about one girl [with the exception of grenade jumper...].
This was a tuff one, but voted for BN

this is too tough to call
"have another drink and drive yourself home
i hope theres ice on all the roads
and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt
and again when your head goes through the windshield"
or
"i could have died with you choke
i hope you choke on those words that kiss that bottle...
lets play this game
called when you catch fire
i would piss to put you out
stop burning bridges and drive off of them
so i can forget about you"
i would have to say seventy times 7 is def. more hateful, but tell mick is def more creatively meanspirited
