Written and Directed by Todd Solondz (Welcome to the Dollhouse)
This movie is great. So twisted and tragic, but still manages to be funny. Philip Seymour Hoffman is hilarious and Jon Lovitz has a nice cameo too. The ending is unbelievable. Anyone else seen it?

is it easily accesible? (blockbuster or something of the sort)I'd assume so. Be warned, it is very sexual. And not in the conventional way.

i thought it tried too hard to be too disturbing. if that makes any sense.
it just seems like he concentrated on that aspect of it rather than putting together a cohesive story with characters worth anything. like he was more concerned with controversy than content.
there wasn't one character i gave a shit about. there wasn't one subplot that interested me in the least. it just seemed like a trainwreck on a mission to push people's buttons.
that's just my opinion. and usually i can try to find something positive about movies i dislike, but i fail to do that with this one. if i had to list my least favorite movies ever, this easily tops the list.

People that represent real people and their very real personas, that happen to be disturbing. And he does this all without judging any of them, which I think is an incredibley difficult task and a marvelous accomplishment. I think you're looking at it the wrong way.

The reviewer on IMDB says it a little better than I can.
"This movie stirs up such strange emotions. It's tough to admit that we may have something in common with a Suburban pedophile, a hopeless dreamer, a pretentious literary snob or a obscene telephone sex stalker and one of the most frightening ideals ever put on film is here: Solondz makes plausible the people we view as being "sick," aren't that much different than us. They still want the same things we do. And he also questions the ideals America seems to hold most dear, like monogamy and morality. And yeah, happiness. How exactly DO you find happiness? Is ANYONE really happy?"
Here's a trailer for anyone interested.

I liked storytelling, but I didnt think it was as good as his other movies
he also did welcome to the dollhouse, which was more on par with happiness in terms of 'eerily disturbing'

Which is the movie by him with the cleaning lady that kills everyone? Is it a subplot of this one or a different movie? I haven't seen them in forever.

Storytelling
and I rented Palindromes a while back. It was good, but I need to watch it again. The constant changing of the main character made it really confusing at times.

I literally forgot about this movie. I've never sen it, but I am always told to check it out. Most would say I have a pretty sick sense of humor, so maybe that's why it is so recommended to me.

Made a thread about the sequel a while back. IFC picked it up so it should come out soon.
Excellent film. The scene at the end between Dylan Baker and his son is one of the most heart breaking yet hilarious moments in movie history.

Todd Solondz is a pretty good film-maker...I've seen Welcome to the Dollhouse and Palindromes, that's about it. Is Happiness something worth watching?

The whole scene with the little boy eating the sandwhich, then the next morning how he doesnt feel good...man thats so wrong haha.
Also, the scene with Phillip Seymore Hoffman on the phone in his bedroom is great. This movie was hard to find, but i finally was able to get a copy from Amazon a few years ago.
I'm trying to remember, but does someone's son in the movie have a habit of jacking off, then smearing his cum on the lockers at school?
So surprised this movie hasnt been seen by very many people on AP.
