Fighting Records rented out a rooftop bar for a invite only showcase featuring three of their artists.

It was nice seeing badge holders get turned away cause they thought they could get anywhere they wanted.

the showcase featured three bands - Astronautalis, Grand Buffet, and Whole Wheat Bread.

never heard of them? well trust me - these are 3 bands you will know within a year.

Astronautalis was first - it is impossible to classify this guy. Indie hip hop, Indie country, Indie pop, fuck, its everything you like, its intelligent, its witty, its sarcastic, its catchy. He played a short set, 3 songs off you and yer good ideas, a freestyle rap over a lil flip beat, and 2 songs off his upcoming 2006 release.

Why you need to see him? He is the most passionate, intense performer you will ever see. Oh yeah did i mention he freestyles, 2 or 3 songs a night with topics from the audience, not just one topic he tries to fit into the song, 5 to 7 topics for one freestyle, and not normal everyday stuff, the more random and obscure the better. I was unable to catch what the topics were for tonights only freestyle as i was getting my friends in the venue, but trust me, if he is in your town go see him, you will not be disappointed, you may have seen him on warped tour the last two years.

songs to check out - oceanwalk. something for the kids. my date with andy.

Grand Buffet - you may know them - they had a song in a movie that escapes my mind right now - they play what is best described as 80's hip hop/electro/dance party music, its nerd hiphop and well done. They had the crowd dancing and singing along the entire time.

song to check out - oh my god your weird

Whole Wheat Bread - i had no idea what to expect - after watching two sets that had indie looking white kids bust out with intense hip hop - i had no idea what to expect from the 3 hip hop looking black kids taking the stage. They started with a blistering cover of no use for a name. holy fucking shit - these guys are awesome. I honestly expected more hip hop likegym class heroes, but i got "dirty south punk" and it was good. They played a bunch of their own songs and fit in a over of Rancid's - roots radical.

I would recommend checking out all of these bands - they all have myspace pages and fightingrecords.com has more info on them.
