I only caught four of the 16 or so bands playing on the 3 stages at emos.
Nightmare of You
Vedera
Say Anything
Circa Survive
Nightmare of You - really fucking good, spot on the entire set. played first so the audience was basically the kids coming in to stay out of the rain, but the kids at the front knew who they were and their were random kids singing along around me.
Vedera - i dont know if im spelling that right, never heard of the band before - i was entertained but not impressed, the songs seemed to blend into each other, the only thing that really ruined it was the guys behind me constantly yelling - you're hot, show us your boobs. at the bands singer, who is an attractive lady, but still thats one of the dumbest things you can yell out at a show, but drunk guys are gonna do what they want.
Say Anything, acoustic - why does it take the longer to set up 3 acoustic guitars than it does to set up a full band? they played the first 4 songs off ...is a real boy and then closed with the futile. It was a really cool setting, audience participation was nice in the parts of the songs where he usually has back up vocals, and the end of belt was really cool with everyone singing along, the only downside was the guy singing louder than Max that was standing next to me.
While they were fixing a broken string, A guy kept asking them to play a walk through hell, max said on the april/may tour it will happen, the kid then offered to pay him and max responded with I'm an artist, money means nothing.
Circa Survive - played the outside stage that was set up for sxsw, basically a big tent. They sounded a lot better than they did at the shirts for a cure show, but that was the sound guys/venue fault as its just didnt sound as good the at shirts for a cure. They played for about 30-40 minutes and they only bad part was Anthony not having his vocals in the monitors, so he had some problems with the first two songs, but they fixed it after he said is sounded like 1000 ufo's taking off and landing behind the tent. The crowd was into it and the band was having a good time playing an early show.
