View Full Version : Break down the Sweet 16.

Let's break the Sweet 16 down by conference:
Big East- 4 teams (Villanova, Connecticut, West Virginia, Georgetown)
ACC- 2 teams (Duke, Boston College)
SEC- 2 teams (LSU, Florida)
Pac-10- 2 teams (UCLA, Washington)
MVC- 2 teams (Wichita State, Bradley)
Big 12- 1 team (Texas)
C-USA- 1 team (Memphis)
WCC- 1 team (Gonzaga)
CAA- 1 team (George Mason)
Big Ten- 0 teams (overrated)
Now let's break down the games:
Atlanta:
Duke vs LSU: I see it being a close game, but once again, Duke's mental toughness and JJ's 3 point deadliness will lead to victory.
Texas vs West Virginia: WVU has played well so far in this tourney and have the tourney experience from last year, I see them defeating Texas by 7.
Oakland:
Memphis vs Bradley: Bradley has had a great run, but it ends here.
UCLA vs Gonzaga: One of the better games of the Sweet 16, I see Morrison bouncing back from his dismal shooting performance vs IU and lighting up UCLA.
DC:
Connecticut vs Washington: Maybe the most intriguing matchup, it all depends on which team shows up for both teams. If UConn plays like they have the first two rounds, I see UWash pulling the upset.
Wichita State vs George Mason: The coolest game so far, it's hard to root against either of these teams, but I see WSU taking this one.
Minneapolis:
Villanova vs Boston College: The best matchup of the Sweet 16, this one is gonna be a nailbiter, but BC, led by Craig Smith, will pull it out.
Florida vs Georgetown: G-Town showed me a lot today against OSU, but FLA is too tough for them.
Next weekend will be glorious.

I think the LSU vs. Duke game will be close too. Hopefully we can pull out a victory.

Can't wait for UCLA vs Gonzaga

Not to be a stinger...but I think you are too biased with WVU. Good yes, but Texas is on a mission to face Duke. I think I agree everywhere, although I really hope UCONN can turn it on already.

I don't think it's going to be that close; they don't have anyone that can guard JJ and Sheldon's faster then Big Baby and will get him in early foul trouble. Look for MCRoberts to show some people what's up...

Duke vs WVU
Mem vs Zaga
Uconn vs GM
BC vs FU
Final Four: Duke, Zaga, Uconn, BC
Championship: BC vs Duke
Champion: Duke
I didn't really intend on it being an all ACC final but looking at the setup that's laid down that's how I think it will go.

I think it will be close but Duke pulls it out with a 9 point victory, hitting their freethrows down the stretch
as for McRoberts, he scores all of his points sitting on the backside block when defenses crack down on JJ or Paulus in the paint.

I can't wait for the sweet 16, it's still quite wide open right now.
I wanna see who wins Wichita St/George Mason. With Mason winning all those games it's annoying because Hofstra beat them twice and they weren't in the tourney.
DREW! Look at the facebook group. I'm number 1.
That is all. I have UNC winning, so i'm going to drop fast. But after the first weekend, I am number 1.

Haha I noticed that. UNC losing hurts ya though lol. Thank God the next round is the last round with that underdog scoring, that's so gay.
haha. I had Wichita St winning, then beating Tenn...I had G'Town winning today. And Oklahoma losing early.
I think those were the big ones.

agreed.
I don't think Texas will shoot as well as they did today and I don't think WVU will shoot as poorly as NCSU did. My pick is partially bitter because of NCSU losing to Texas, part of that is because Pittsnogle is the man

I look for Morrison to come out and have a great game as well and carry gonzaga to the win.

The BC/Nova game is going to be a fantastic game. BC will dominate underneath, but nova's guard play trumps BC's. cant wait.

Those are all intriguing games, Uconn will probably loose because they've been awful. Nova/BC could be a classic, I'm really looking forward to that one.

What were the outcomes last year when they both played in the Big East?
Brownpants06

Duke over Gonzaga and Villanova over UConn for the final two. Duke over Nova for champ.
That's how my bracket is, anyway.

I know Nova lost by 1 on ft's. And then beat them by 6 or 7 @ home.

Novas gonna create a lot of problems for BC, as they aren't nearly as fast (although much bigger). Lowry is probably the 2nd best PG left in the tourney (M. Williams) and his driving ability will get Hinnant in foul trouble early. It's gonna be a great game though, as both teams are led by seniors that will do anything to play one more college game. When all's said and done, Nova will be playing in the regional final against Florida, another classic in the making.
Elsewhere, Duke and Texas will most likely advance. I love WVU, but don't think they can slip by Texas.
Gonzaga over UCLA
Memphis over Bradley
UConn in a BLOWOUT (re-establishes why they're the team to beat)
Shockers in what could be the 2nd best game of the weekend over George Mason.

you’re missing some teams...
Anyway, B.C. will also cause problems for Nova, johnny_g. B.C. is much bigger and will dominate the inside. Nova will have to play two forwards to maybe contain Smith, Dudley, and Williams. Should be interesting.

Big Ten- 0 teams (overrated)
Remember when people tried to say it was better than the Big East
Now let's break down the games:
Atlanta:
Duke vs LSU: I see it being a close game, but once again, Duke's mental toughness and JJ's 3 point deadliness will lead to victory.
Texas vs West Virginia: WVU has played well so far in this tourney and have the tourney experience from last year, I see them defeating Texas by 7.
Duke beats LSU, but Texas's zone will actually hurt WVU's outside shooting, it will stretch and force them to find Pittsnoggle inside. I got Texas in a barnburner.
Oakland:
Memphis vs Bradley: Bradley has had a great run, but it ends here.
UCLA vs Gonzaga: One of the better games of the Sweet 16, I see Morrison bouncing back from his dismal shooting performance vs IU and lighting up UCLA.
Agreed with both
My prediction of Wichita State as an Elite 8 team may come true, I see it happening vs GM. UConn I do believe physically will overcome UW..but if they play like the first Nova game, fairly uninspired, they could get buried early.
Seems very similiar to the UConn vs Nova type matchup, which they split 1-1. I agree the best game, and for my brackets sake, well, their fucked anyway, go BC.
I don't care who wins Florida v G-town, I hate both teams.
Next weekend will be glorious.
Yep, Spring Break, beer, and basketball

It'd be cool to see the BC-Duke game again.
ANd of course, Morrison v Reddick, where I see Reddick with 30 and Morrison with about 95...because Nelson only has the speed, not the height to bother him, and Melchioni seems to make Morrison look fast
i go with whats in my sig. well...i root for that. in reality i think its right, except Bradley not winning.

My brackets busted, so here are my picks for the teams that are left. I put the matchup I had in italics and in parenthesis.
Atlanta Region:
Duke vs LSU(Duke vs Syracuse)
I think Duke is going to come out strong, because LSU is no joke and they will take them seriously. I had 'Cuse beating them in the second round, so I was off, but I know that LSU is capable of winning, I just don't see JJ going down in the sweet-16. Duke wins.
Texas vs West Virginia(Texas vs WVU)
I have Texas moving on, they played well at the end, as did WV, but I see P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge having huge games and moving on to face Duke in a rematch. Texas wins.
Oakland Region:
Memphis vs Bradley(Memphis vs Pittsburgh)
I have Memphis being here, I had Pitt, but that doesn't work. Bradley played well, but Memphis will end their run. Has the possibility to be a sleeper game where it could be a very very close game to the end. Memphis wins.
UCLA vs Gonzaga(UCLA vs Indiana)
Even though I had Indiana vs. UCLA when I went with my mind, this is the matchup I wanted to see in my heart. I think both teams are capable of winning, but I see UCLA shutting down everybody except Morrison, and beating the Zags. UCLA wins.
DC Region:
Connecticut vs Washington(UConn vs Illinois)
Even though one of my favorite players in the league in Brandon Roy plays for Washington, I just see UConn moving on. They aren't really playing that well, just beating their opponents on their own level, which should leave this game pretty open. If Roy goes ballistic, I think Washingtons got it, but otherwise, UConn wins, maybe in OT.
Wichita State vs George Mason(Tennesee vs UNC)
I had the Vols vs UNC; Shows how busted these guys made me. This could be a pretty scrappy game, two mid-majors going at it for a birth in the elite 8 to face UConn. I think Wichita State is playing too well right now, even though Mason beat two final four teams from last year. Wichita State wins.
Minneapolis Region:
Villanova vs Boston College(Villanova vs Boston College)
THIS will be the game remembered about this tourney. I had it picked, and it's gonna go to OT i think, or atleast down to the wire with B.C. pulling it out at the end, barely. Boston College wins.
Florida vs Georgetown(Florida vs Ohio St)
Georgetown played great this weekend, but Florida played even better. This won't be close. Florida wins.
