If Taking Back Sunday ever gets into the Rock & Roll Hall Fame... It will super fun to see what goes down... with the past member changes and possible future member changes... How crazy could it get? What if they reunited w/ John and Fred?

No. I doubt Jimmy Eat World will get in (though they've at least had some commercial success). Weezer on the other is pretty much guaranteed. Taking Back Sunday doesn't have a chance in hell, I'm sorry.

weezer continue to produce hit songs for the radio, they have two brilliant albums wiht critical acclaim (blue album + pinkerton)
jimmy eat world have more of a cult following but even still, they get radio play and still sell out venues (clarity tour sold out in less than a day if i recall)

I retract what I say about Weezer, I think they have a better shot than TBS. But still not a very good one. Jimmy Eat World's Clarity Tour was all small venues where their "cult" could buy out in two days.

Your point? I pretty much guarantee I could find more people who have heard Jimmy Eat World (and can tell me a song of theirs) than I could find people who could do the same thing for Taking Back Sunday. As for Weezer, find me one person who hasn't at least heard of them. Better yet, find me one person who has never heard of Weezer or JEW and HAS heard of TBS. Not going to happen much.

Jimmy Eat World and Weezer have had far more commercial success than TBS, without a doubt. Are are household names, when I talk about them to people outside the whole "scene" people know who they are. TBS have had one single make it on the Billboard 100, that was makedamnsure and it was number 48. When you talk about TBS outside the "scene" people just ask who? They've enjoyed moderate success but compared to JEW and Weezer there's no question that they would be considered for the hall of fame before TBS.

Hell, I'm a user of this site and I can't name a Taking Back Sunday song (because I think they're completely terrible, but that's beside the point). I've never met a TBS fan outside of this site.

with almost every album they've produced a hit
Clarity - Lucky Denver Mint
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle, Hear you Me (and arguably Get it Faster and Bleed American)
Futures - Pain
Chase This Light - Always Be and Big Casino (and the title track charted despite the fact it wasn't a single)

from wikipedia:
"Pain" is a song by the American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) band Jimmy Eat World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Eat_World). It was released as the first single from their 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004) album Futures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_%28album%29) and became their second #1 hit on the Billboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_%28magazine%29) Modern Rock Tracks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Rock_Tracks) chart. The song was featured on video games Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Hawk%27s_Underground_2), Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Club_3:_DUB_Edition) and Karaoke Revolution Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karaoke_Revolution_Party). It was also featured on the Smallville (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smallville_%28TV_series%29) episode "Transference." The 7" was pressed on clear vinyl. The Single has received Gold status by the RIAA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA).

While this is true, they've also had massive massive massive success, and the reunion tour, and whatever may come subsequently, will also do well, I'm sure. Whether or not people like them, they're a name that people now. Do I think they'll ever seriously get inducted into the R&R HOF? I don't know. Nah you're right. Blink's not locked in. I doubt they'll be around still even when they become eligible which is 25 years after your debut cd comes out. With this in mind, as well as the fact that they pretty much just owned a couple years on the music time line, you'll be hard pressed for them to actually even get nominated, let alone get in. Unless by the time they're eligible we've got a bunch of kids running the voting and decision making for the HoF. This is all just being realistic, though they've inspired a lot of bands, those bands who they've inspired have done nothing much for music themselves you know?

I'm not sure why this dissolved into a conversation of what bands from now have a shot at the hall of fame (since there was a thread on this very subject like a week or so ago), but come on, Blink doesn't have a chance in hell. Nor does TBS, JEW, or Nickelback (come on, sales aren't the only thing that matters. I'm pretty sure everyone in the hall of fame would be trying to get out if this happened). Seriously though, if you want to discuss this, search the other thread out. Same arguments going on in here I think.

By far the most stupid post I've ever seen on this website.
Jimmy Eat World will probably not get inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Just my guess.
Weezer is pretty much so a given.
Taking Back Sunday = not a chance in hell.

i disagree, they were the biggest thing around from 1999 until around 2003/04... enema of the state sold 15 million copies, take off your pants and jacket sold around 4-5 million. granted, the self titled didn't do so well, but "feeling this" was a hit and "i miss you" was a HUGE hit. they were on top of the world for about 5 years

I was being facetious. How you missed that is beyond me :-d
Also, Taking Back Sunday have a very large fan base. It's TAYF that has the cult following.
Never said TBS was without a large fan base, and to be honest, you need more than a "cult following" behind one album and a current fan base to be inducted.
Fortunately, TBS will never get into the hall of fame.

Wrong. The criteria for bands to get into the HoF is a lot more than commercial success, and blink honestly was really popular for about 3-4 years. They'll probably break up before they're eligible to get in anyway. I wish they would, but they will not. If I'm wrong I will fight you, and let you win... in time.

hey, all i'm saying is if you poll all of the bands out there right now, at least 70% will say that blink was one of their biggest influences. whether you want to admit it or not, they were one of the two or three bands that built the groundwork for what's going on in music today. that, added to their commercial success, should get them in the hall of fame.

Do you remember albums by the names of Weezer (The Blue Album) and Pinkerton? Regardless of the shitshow they've been putting on since then, those are two of the best albums of the 90's, and certainly much better than anything TBS has or will put out. If Nirvana is going to get in on the strength of two good albums, as I think they will, Weezer certainly deserves the same respect.

Just because I enjoy pop-punk music with some blink influence doesn't mean the entire site does. There are countless bands on this site that have zero influence from blink-182. No, I didn't forget about it, I just think Red is as a whole, shittier (yes. I said it). Make Believe was pretty much mediocre from start to finish, but I did get a few plays out of it before I realized just how shitty it was. Red has MAYBE 4 decent songs (and yes, Pork & Beans is one of them), and Heart Songs alone is shittier than the entirety of Make Believe. Heart Songs is one of the most idiotically horrible songs I've ever heard in my life.

Taking Back Sunday's most recent record is far far shittier than any Weezer record. It makes Red and Make Believe sound like Sgt. Peppers and Highway 61. At least Weezer has chances to tarnish, as opposed to TBS, who don't have chances.

It's the musical equivalent of bashing my head into a trash bin. And the only way it's far from being terrible is because it's gone so far past that classification that the word is no longer even applicable. I haven't heard a more unlistenable album all year.

There's a lot of bands people think will get in, but it's all about mainstream. The truth is Linkin Park, Green Day, and Nickelback, are most likely to get in. If Blink writes a couple more solid cd's with mainstream success then they'll get in. TBS, JEW, and Weezer, stand no chance imo.

The first five weren't suggestions; if the HOF wants to hold the tiniest shred of credibility, all five are in. The Flaming Lips is a bit unknown considering their most famous works have been released relatively recently, and they are still active in releasing albums, but I think that they will make it if fucking Linkin Park does. Fugazi is unknown, just threw them out there. They certainly deserve it. Iggy Pop should be in. It's not a question. The man fucking invented punk music. And I put Pavement because two of their albums ranked fairly high on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Not saying this as certification of my opinion, but because if a stupid, equally-as-big-of-a-joke publication like Rolling Stone thinks of Pavement that highly, it's fairly possible the HOF will too.
Btw, none of this was really directed at you, seeing as you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. I don't know, do some research or something, maybe you'll realize just how ridiculous a statement "No to the rest" is.

Why would I "research" a topic when we won't have the solutiion for at least 10 years? We obviously have different opinions, but the fact is, is that a this is a popularity contest. I'll do "something," and just block you. Have a nice life while you pursue and embrace chaos among a community you will never confront in reality.

Hybrid Theory went Diamond. That's pretty impressive.
Commercial success does not equal musical credibility.
the criteria they go for is "influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll." if you don't think blink had influence in the development of rock and roll...
Blink influenced a wave of pop punkers who have done nothing for rock themselves for the most part. They were really popular for about 3 or 4 years man. They may get in, but it won't be for a very long time.

Common sense would dictate that between the amount of records they sold plus their influence on both music and fashion styles that they would get in. You're talking about two of the biggest rock bands of the last 10 years.

I don't know numbers, but I would imagine that Coldplay, Nickelback, and Linkin Park have sold more than blink.
(Just for the record, I Think Linkin Park is getting in, but I just don't think blink will be, at least not for a loooooong time.)

I dunno the numbers but I tend to agree with that. I don't see why that would stop Blink from getting in though. You're also forgetting about RHCP. They've probably sold a shitload more. Same with Greenday.

The thing with blink is, that as much as I'd like to see them get in, I have a feeling they'll have huge detractors once they're finally eligible, as just in here people have given pretty good arguments against blink getting in. I'd love to see it happen, but I don't think it will.
As for RHCP, I just assume that they'll get in almost as soon as their eligible, and I have no doubt that Green Day will get in.

Why would I "research" a topic when we won't have the solutiion for at least 10 years?
What does that even mean? The artists I listed were some of the most influential and critically acclaimed from their era. That's what I meant when I said 'research', because you clearly had no idea that that was the case. I don't know what 'solution' we're going to have in 10 years, or really, how anything you've written even makes sense.
We obviously have different opinions,
No we don't, you don't have a grasp of the reality of the situation. Those artists influenced a lot of other artists and created some of the most dynamic and creative music of their time. That's a fact, not an opinion.
but the fact is, is that a this is a popularity contest.
It used to be that the best selling artists would get in without a fuss, but I think that's liable to change. The best selling artists in the past--your Beatles, your Pink Floyds, your Led Zeppelins, etc.--were also some of the most talented and well received of their time. Bands like the Beatles should have gotten in had they sold a thousand records or a billion. The talented artists happened to also be the most widely bought by the general population. At some point, though, talent and positive critical reception became divorced with mainstream success. All of Linkin Park's and Nickelback's albums have, of course, sucked, and have been widely panned by critics, yet they've sold ungodly amounts of that tripe to the general population. I'm not saying that because they suck they won't get in, but I am saying that because they suck they shouldn't get in, and that the past precedence for the "popularity contest" was under different circumstances.
I'll do "something," and just block you.

All of the bands you have just named suck. Hard. Like, they're terrible. There's no way in hell any of them are getting into the rock and roll hall of fame. The fact that you think any of those bands are any good, and that you seriously suggested that they were, is an insult to any/every genre of music that has ever existed, and to musical criticism itself.
Green Day has one decent album (Dookie), two overrated albums (American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown), and the rest is shit. Sublime? Are you fucking kidding me? They were both a shitty ska-revival band, a shitty rap-crossover band, and most of them had no musical talents whatsoever. Plus, their songs are just lame. Foo Fighters is just Dave Grohl taking Kurt Cobain's songwriting formula and making it more radio-friendly, and not only did he bastardize/enable the bastardization of Nirvana's music, but he also did it very poorly. Coldplay is just a shitty pop version of Radiohead, only a lot more pretentious and with a lot less talent. Linkin Park was a shitty fad. Nu-metal is never good. They had no good songs. No Doubt was a shitty pop group that had maybe a few hits but no material worth mentioning. Blink 182 is/was melodramatic, poorly performed, obnoxious pop-punk and was a make-money scheme for the record industry from the get-go. Weezer is the same story with blink 182, except they actually did have a good, yet overrated. album in "The Blue Album" and a completely underrated and even better album with "Pinkerton", but the rest is shit. Fall Out Boy were pathetic song-writers, unexciting performers, and another fad group, just like Linkin Park and blink 182.

Yeah, they kind of are. Considering there are people who feel the same way about a lot of bands that are actually better than the bands you have named. It has nothing to do with a fan base. Plenty of people love Celine Dion, is she getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Didn't think so. There are also plenty of people who casually listen to the bands you have named and kind of like them that may sing along to the songs and go see them play live and can relate to their lyrics. I'm sure you have strong bonds with these bands, and it's your opinion as to whether or not they are any good, but I'm obligated to share my opinion as well, and I think you are wrong, completely, utterly, entirely, etc. etc.

It's not an hiatus (if for example, we define hiatus as something similar to Blink's) they're merely taking a well deserved break from touring and recording.
