I just started listening to the Tick Tock Treasury and was instantly reminded of how much I like him and also began questioning myself as I wondered why I hadn't listened to him in so long. Any other fans? If not, listen to him immediately.

I really like Ronnie's work. I still haven't heard the new EP they put out this year, Curiosities and Such, but I was on a JE kick not too long ago.

Yeah, I can't believe how large his discography is. There's so much I still need to listen to, yet I always get caught up in what I already love.

Joy Electric is so good, especially The Otherly Opus. It's such weird music, yet so infectious.

oh sweet other people on ap.net know of JE! I've loved them (him) since ChristianSongs. Such a talented guy. I still haven't bought curiosities and such but I'm getting around to it. $8 shipping included on their site. Anyone ever seen them live? I was lucky enough to see them once right after Hello, Mannequin came out.

I've wanted to get into Joy Electric for a while, but he just has SUCH an extensive discography... No clue where to start. Any suggestions?
Oh, and likewise for his brother's band, Starflyer 59, I guess. Might as well ask them both.

I'm listening to that album now. His vocal parts are so amazing throughout that album. The Memory of Alpha is particularly fascinating.

I saw him 2 years ago at Purple Door. I was fascinated watching him work and seeing how many sounds he could get out of two analog synthesizers.

Joy Electric: The Otherly Opus. Probably his poppiest and most accessible work. Great record.
Starfler 59: Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice. Not very representative of his work, but one of my favourite records of all time so that should be enough validation, but if you don't like it go for My Island which is easier to get into.

Thanks.
You've been to Purple Door, huh? I missed that year. :/ You going this year? Bradley Hathaway is headlining the Gallery Stage, and mewithoutYou is opening for Anberlin on the Main Stage, so it seems like a pretty good year. Bradley was AMAZING last year.

TV vs. SV is by far my favorite Starflyer album, and oddly enough that is the album that got me into them back in the day. The new one Dial M is good too.

I'm also very partial to Ministry of Archers, think I'm going to listen to it now. Joy Electric is so painfully underrated.

Leave Here a Stranger is by far my favorite SF59 record...and The White Songbook is my favorite for JE. Its so good to see that others on AP like Joy Electric, and other music created by the Martin bros. Has anyone checked out The Foxglove Hunt? (Ronnie's band with the vocalist from Fine China) Its incredibly good.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Foxglove Hunt's record, but I missed Ronnie's vocals.

it's really cool how he uses his vocals like another instrument

well he's got two "eras" I suppose. Everything before the White Songbook is more poppy and the lyrics are more accessible. Everything after is generally more complicated and the lyrics not accesible. If you want to start with the old stuff, get Robot Rock. If you want to start within the past 7 years, go with the Otherly Opus or Hello, Mannequin. A few months ago I finally completed purchasing the complete discography (well minus one of the newer EPs or two) :-)

Do you have Robot Rock? I can't find my copy to put on my laptop and it's driving me mad.
What exactly is Ronald of Orange?

yeah I do. You can get it on amazon for pretty cheap I think. Ronald of Orange is this side project he did this past winter. It's less electronic than JE. Still just him I think. It was released by Velvet Blue Music.

yeah I wonder when it's coming out. Ronnie hasn't kept up very well with updates this summer. I remember a loooong time ago he did a cover of Adam's Song that never got released. Apparently it's somewhere in T&N's vault.

I remember that too, I think that was about the time Tick Tock Treasury had just been released. I'm glad T&N still keeps JE on the roster, and they seem to let him do whatever he wants...the other day I started watching the old Tooth and Nail Videography dvd and..wow, the type of music they seemed to sign then and the type of music they sign now..sure is different. oh well.

I only know who half those songs are by. That was a terrible sentence. Oh well. Surprised neither JE's site nor the myspace has anything about this. Well not really, they haven't updated any news/blogs in forever

1,2,3,4 (Feist)
Viva La Vida (Coldplay)
I Miss You (Blink 182)
Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova)
When You Were Young (The Killers)
Somewhere Only We Know (Keane)
It Ends Tonight (All American Rejects...I guess)
Decode (Paramore?!)
Say It Right (Nelly Furtado)
Some really odd choices for covers...for some reason I was expecting more new wave stuff. and..not so much the AAR and Paramore. Oh well, either way I'll be picking it up on the release date.

Everything Ronnie does is great (although some in differing levels)... I actually think Tick Tock Treasury is one of his lesser albums.
White Songbook is where it's at... Robot Rock is right behind that.
If you haven't listened to Borthers Martin, do so now. He and Jason rock some fierce electronic jams!

Probably the same reason SF59, P86, The O.C. Supertones, Five Iron Frenzy, Falling Up, The Classic Crime, and a lot of other bands did... For bands that are already established with a solid fan base and not about to break into Top 40, there's no practical reason to stick with a label. Labels like Tooth and Nail should be scrambling to maintain purpose about now.
