If people are looking for a good movie to drop acid or do hallucinagens to, The Doors is a good one. And so is Bringing Out the Dead, the lights in that movie are sweet as hell.
Sure, whatever you crazy kids are doing nowadays.

its a really good movie. i loved it the first time i saw it. but after a few views its really not "incredible", but it does have a huge following. and in my book, any movie that has a huge following gets points just for affecting a vast amount of people.

When it comes to Jake Gyllenhaal

October Sky > Donnie Darko

than that might explain why you dont like it. i only like movies that make you think, or you could just not think about it at all becuse it could just be what it is and mot have any hidden meanings

i dont watch the disney channel, i'm 21. I think if i were watchting it, I'd have some serious developmental issues.

and yes, I know that Blow is based on a true story, hence why I found it to be so good.

And I'll one up you with this: Men Of Honor (cuba fooding jr, robert deniro), is the true story about the first african american navy deep sea diver, and all the events in the movie took place, and were pushed across with great historical accuracy.

Not to mention that Cuba put on the most emotional display of acting I have ever witnessed.

And you're beloved Jake Gyllenhall who played donnie - played Homer in October Sky - ALSO a true story about a group of young men who built rockets for a high school science fair which sparked the life-long intrest in Homer, who to this day - still works for NASA.

that's the most interesting top movie list i've ever seen. more interesting than everyone saying pulp fiction.

As good of a director as tarantino (sp?) is, I think that sometimes he over does it a little bit, and that's his downfall when it comes to directing.

And I'm glad you think it's an interesting top movie list - I like to think it's pretty diverse in content, but I also like to think that each movie on that list has a great story line that holds strong throughout the movie, and has a good emotional climax to the movie.

And I think a few of the movies get overlooked by a lot of critics, because they dont really try to relate to film as much as they could. But you know, whatever. It's just another form of pop-culture, and the people are gonna like what they like.

uh, i'm pretty sure that some of the replies have been fairly "intellectual" in regaurds to my top films of all time.

but you're probably just in a state of narrow-mindedness and just want to concentrate on a single film rather than letting the spectrum be opened up to discussion about good film in general.

plus, it's fucking AP, threads NEVER stay on point for more than 3 pages.

you tried to take a cheap shot at my taste in movies, so I came back with a list - and a very justified explanation as to how I rate movies in my book.

i have a question..
what does everyone think the ending means?
because i thought it meant sort of like the butterfly effect ending with him deciding to die but my friend told me i was wrong and it means something else (he wouldnt explain it to me).

The end is the reason i think it was a super hero movie. donnie used his power and saw all of these bad things happen to other people, in a way because of him: his girlfriend gets hit by a car, his teacher gets fired, frank gets shot, swayze goes to jail, which in turn puts his mother on the plane that loses the engine. so rather than have all those things happen, he "saves" them by sacrificing himself, which is what a superhero does for man.

i agree with smithers, but just to add:
in the end he understands what is going to happen so thats why he shoots frank, he knows that without him this aweful thing wouldnt happen, even the plane crash that he didnt know (i think) about that had his mother and sister on it, frank wouldnt get killed, the lovehate guy wouldnt have his house burnt and his kiddie porn dungeon found (haha), his girlfriend wouldnt be killed, the school wouldnt get flooded, which would allow the teacher not to get fired, among many other minor things.

so in the end, it is 1. Either he believes it was a dream so he woke up laughing at how it seemed so real. or 2. he decided it was better for him to die, since he would save all the people, and basically himself too.

i agree with smithers that donnie was a superhero because of that especally of the part where gretchen commented on his name, saying that it sounds like a super hero, and donnie replies, who says im not or something like that.

it really is a super hero name, if you compare them to other super heroes. they have the alliteration name. peter parker, matt murdock, even clark kent, to a point. and peter petrelli haha. that's why i like to say i have a super hero name.

the only part i wasn't sure of is that in theory, his sister dies in the plane crash regardless because she's on the dance team.

on the heroes thread, some body thought his name was peter ferelli. haha

and about the dance tem.. well herr mom has to go on the plane cuz of the trial, so its kind of. if you think real deeply im sure theres a point where he caused it.

yeah thats what i thought it meant, that he chose to die sort of like ashton kutcher does on the butterfly effect. my friend thought it went deeper then that though.. eh.

One of my fav movies ever, thus the avatar...

but anyway, did you or didnt you like the movie and why???
and if you get really into it, what do you think different people/things in the movie reprisent?

My favorite movie of all time. I think that this movie has different interpretations. I think the movie is about possibilities, and of course about time travel, and one facing their darkest hour. I always thought of this movie as a puzzle. lol. Yes, a puzzle. It's not clear to the end of what everything means. The first time i saw it...i was completely in awe at how incredible i thought this film was.

I loved it. It just bugs me when people think they're psychologists after watching it.

My take:

Frank set up the entire thing to save Gretchen, in order to make up for his accidental murder of her. He led Donnie from clue to clue in order to understand the meaning behind time travel so he could save her. In the end, he did so, and sacrificed himself to save Gretchen's and Frank's life, and ultimately his mother's and sister's from the plane crash. The jet that his family died in was the engine that killed Donnie, he just traveled back in time when the plane was in the wormhole that he opened with Frank's help so that his family was not on it during the crash, but on a plane 28:06:42:12 later.

That would be nice. Everytime I watch the movie, I have to go to this website: http://www.stainlesssteelrat.net/ddfaq.htm to touch up on things that I don't understand or forget about. I would love to own the Director's Cut, but I already own the original version. Too bad the Director's cut doesn't contain both versions, that would be nice.

Maybe I will get it for my birthday.

With all due respect to the woman who sued because Drive was too boring, we might have identified the most outrageous lawsuit in recent years. The complaint filed on Wednesday in Washington federal court targets a weird series of coincidences in the film Donnie Darko, plus the TV shows X-Files and Burn Notice. According to the plaintiff, a congruence of fact and fiction adds up to News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch and his Fox empire committing defamation and a privacy invasion against him.

Huh? Read on...

Michael Charles Bertsch presents the coincidences in list form.

For example, here are some things he realized while watching Donnie Darko:

"The family car in the movie was a sky blue Ford Taurus. My father has the exact same car with the exact same color."
"Donnie Darko's sister's name is Elizabeth. My sister's name is Elizabeth."
"In the movie a black 911 Porsche is parked in front of the Darko house. At the time I owned a black 911 Porsche."
"Donnie's girlfriend Gretchen is introduced as a new student in the movie. Gretchen is a German name and my fiance was living in Germany and resembles the woman in the movie"
"The main premise of the movie is about a plane engine that drops in Donnie Darko's room. I worked with a company that worked with the FAA in recovering parts and downed aircraft."
