I've heard about this, figured the guy had a pretty valid case to take to Court, also the fact that he said he was willing to resign because he understood the 'image issues' I think show how unfairly this guy was treated.

He should use this video in court:

Analogous to a man being fired for being married to another man.

le sigh...his marriage would bring a damper on to their little town council and such. So if that means ignoring the Constitutional right, then ignoring they shall do.

Was the use of the word Analogous due to the thread content/your analogy?

That's pretty lame they shouldn't have fired him based on his wifes profession.

this is a similar idea to businesses that won't hire people with visible tattoos/stretched ear lobes. They don't want that customers/potential customers to have a negative idea of the business because of that employee so they just don't hire those kinds of people. Here, the fact that the guy is married to a porn star would reflect poorly and probably bring publicity they don't want. Yeah sure it sucks. And I know it's more complicated than that, and he was already hired when it happened I'm just saying it's not all "oh yeah he's definitely shouldn't have been fired"

The image argument is bullshit. Replace 'porn star' with 'midget' and see how it holds up. You shouldn't be discriminating against people on the basis of who they marry. Otherwise, you open a whole host of other reasons that can be used to discriminate against people.

except there already are. Tattoos and piercings being some. And your use of a midget as an example is terrible. There's nothing "wrong" with being a midget. Being a midget isn't something you choose, and it's not socially looked down on. Where as things like tattoos and especially porn stars are.

You missed the point. For one thing, you're talking about hiring. Number two, you're talking about tattoos and piercings, which are personal appearance choices. How you present yourself at your job is relevant to the company and it's interests. You are working on their time. Unless your spouse has something to do with your employer, who you're married to has no bearing on your job. You'd have to prove to me how seeing a porn star in their private time would make them unfit for their job. Otherwise, where is the line drawn? Why not fire someone for having a one night stand with a porn star? Or how about just being friends with a porn star?

And may I ask why a conservative is sporting a Che Guevara avatar?

and all that makes sense. I was under the impression this guy was higher up in the company. Maybe I don't have all my facts straight. If it was a low level employee then I don't see why it should matter. If it was a high level employee, like for instance a CEO or something, well then consumers, advertisers, whoever may see that and be like well then I don't want to support this company. I suppose it's a risk the company would be willing to take. Maybe it'd be a big deal, maybe not at all. My main point isn't that the guy should be fired, its that it's not as easy as saying no he shouldn't be fired, or yes he should be fired.

Che Guevara was about a lot more than just "liberal" ideas. While I don't agree with how he went about reaching his goals, his goals were admirable. It's kind of like a conservative writing off people like FDR, JFK, or Robert Kennedy. All three were liberal but to me, especially the Kennedy brothers, are sort of heroes, and I don't have to be a Democrat to appreciate them. Not that you said that, just sayin.

No, I think it'd be kind of like a conservative having a Karl Marx avatar.

lol I'm not one of those morons that wears che shirts and doesn't know anything about him. And I never said any of his goals line up with conservatism. I'm sorry but just because I put moderate conservative as my political stance doesn't mean my entire viewpoint on everything must be conservative. That's what's wrong with so many conservatives and liberals. It's also a mistake to limit Che to a political ideology because he was a lot more than that, especially early on.

J.C.
08/02/09, 12:05 AM
You called yourself a conservative and described Che Guevara's goals as admirable. I'm asking you how you reconcile the two. All you just did was dodge the question.

Nice liberal video! Too bad they forgot to include "Still, Kiker insisted that Janke wasn't fired because of his wife's job.

"We didn't fire him because his wife was a porn star," Kiker griped, adding that the decision wasn't a "knee-jerk reaction."

All it is, is he said, she said.

But I will give him this, he sure can mosh to "The Machine Rages On".

Statement 1: He was butthurt after the election so he was all like "Whaaaaa democracy sucks."

Statement 2: Rage Against the Machine was playing some concert awhile back, and apparently he crowd-surfed and later on some radio host called them The Machine Rages On and pro-terrorist.
