It's really disgusting that Brandon Roy isn't a finalist. He's been so much better than Rudy Gay this year.

uconn is a lot more popular than UW and the big east is a lot bigger than the pac-10 basketball-wise. i, admittedly, don't know much about brandon roy aside from the fact that he was pac-10 POY. i don't care which conference it is but if you're player of the year in it, that's an accomplishment. as much as i like uconn, it'd be nice to see some players on the west coast, a la brandon roy, not named adam morrison to get more coverage here in the east.

East coast media bias in college basketball. It's nothing new. Look at their game logs and such...It's funny, people are now just starting to pay attention to Roy since he's making some news in the tourney. He's easily the most complete player in college basketball, at 20ppg, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3pt range...He's been such a better player than Gay this year, by a LOT. Gay's a huge talent, but his season just doesn't merit him being in this.

i hate the fact that there is an east coast bias; despite living on the east coast.

there is an east coast bias because there are better teams on the east coast, meaning these teams are constantly playing better competition.

Number 3 should be Brandon Roy, without a doubt. The fact he's not a finalist is sickening. But since he's not, it goes to Allen Ray. Rudy Gay doesn't really belong in the finalists.

The west has good teams just not as many teams. I also think west coast basketball is more entertaining to watch.

It also doesn't help that ESPN is located in Connecticut, so all their writers have a greater exposure to the east coast teams.

first, i agree that roy should be up there, bayless should have wrote that overrated column about rudy gay, not adam morrison. Gay plays on a stacked team and still doesn't look that impressive half the time. I do think roy is good but i do not know that those stats really shout out "most complete player in college basketball". Morrison's stats are 28 ppg, 5.5 reb, and 2 assists and his 3 point range is amazing.
anyway, up until today i thought morrison should definately win. Reddick's slump at the end of the year sealed it for me. But a guy on espn brought up a good point. We have all heard about jj going against better competition, which i did not think made a huge difference. He pointed out, though, that morrison has a lot of games where he can relax. JJ always has to be on his game and is always harrassed defensively cause he is going up against great teams. If I had a vote I would probably end up going with morrison but i would definately lose sleep over the decision.

Uh, you'd be the only person in the nation that would try to argue Morrison is a more complete player than Roy.
Roy:
PPG: 20.2
RPG 5.7
APG: 4.1
SPG: 1.3
BPG: 0.8
FG%: .512
FT%: .814
3PT% .400
Morrison:
PPG: 28.2
RPG: 5.5
APG: 1.8
SPG: 1.1
BPG: 0.3
FG% .493
FT%: .772
3PT% .432
That shows that Roy is better than Morrison in every single statistical category besides obviously scoring, and while Morrison's 3PT% is great, Roy's is outstanding as well. Plus, Roy is only 6'6'' and Morrison is 6'8'', yet Roy averages more rebounds. Roy can board, he can play the point (with 4.1 assists per game he dominates Morrison) and he's got just as good of range as Morrison does. Morrison is clearly the better player this year for his ability to take over games with his scoring, but it's widely regarded that Roy is the most complete player in college basketball, and Morrison is fairly 1 dimensional. In fact, Morrison's rebounding numbers are pretty darn poor for his height.

i wasnt trying to make the argument, i was just saying that the stats you originally gave didnt really give a full picture because morrisons stats were better for the categories you gave for roy. Once you gave the full stat line, it painted a better picture of how good roy is.

Rudy Gay deserves to be on there. Is he overrated because of what his potential is? yes. Did he still have a great year? yes. He led what many consider to be the best team in the country in scoring and is the only player in the country averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. His ppg would have been higher if UConn was not as deep and did not have as many scoring options as they do.

If a forum full of music fanatics can list who truely deserve to be finalists for the Naismith Award, why can't the people who nominate the finalists, who's job it is to do this, get it right? Makes you wonder.

He should be the Ron Artest of college B-ball, stat wise...a freak who can hit 3's and dominate you inside as well...

It is a nice luxury...but, Williams is prone to his off nights, and he is dealing with freshmen at the 1 and 4 spots.
I almost start believing it should be a tie unless they meet in the tounrey and prove it otherwise, they've had legit solid years.
And I like the stats for Roy, is he a Senior, because either way he should be a decent option for a pick in the draft

I'd agree with that statement. He has the potential to be an instant impact in the NBA game. He's 6'6", pretty big for a guard and he plays well night in and out, I like him a lot.
Like I said, I'd take him pick number 3 and up if he's around in the Lottery by those picks, maybe even #2.
