Wow, quite the band lineup there...well, I guess Punk Goes 80's had several well-knowns too...I'll be interested to hear the rest of these songs. However, like many have said before, the NIN cover by Mae isn't that good...they should've made it their own; the singer's high-pitched..whatever..just isn't very good. Copeland's "Black Hole Sun" sounds okay. I think my favorite cover is still Underoath doing The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger," because it sounds like an Underoath song.

Anberlin's cover of Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence is one my favorite covers out..
I'm excited to hear what Gym Class Heroes have up their sleeves as well.

The GCH cover of RHCP will be the best track.
I think my favorite cover is still Underoath doing The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger," because it sounds like an Underoath song.
for some reason i could never get past the first two lines, where that dude completely butchers the pronunciation of scylla and charybdis.. off topic i guess but that's always killed me

I'm interested in hearing Cartel and GCH's covers... sounds decent, but the song selections aren't my favorite
TheGoodnightMoon
03/20/06, 07:07 PM
Cartel took Wonderwall and made it their own, especially with the beginning of the song, but still did it without stripping the Oasis like qualities. Definitely my favorite off the whole cd.

They should have tried to include some Radiohead, Pumpkins, and Deftones on there.

I really REALLY want to hear the Hit the Lights cover. BAD.

03/20/06, 07:09 PM
the bedlight cover is awesome, some seem like they should be pretty sweet (cartel, gym class heroes, copeland) where others seem to be a bit out of place, but i still have hopes (mae, sksk)

I'm surpised that Mae did make the NIN song their own. They should have since the bands have such a completely different sound. No wonder it isn't that good. I have to say I'm excited to hear all of the cd.

This is a very underwhelming tracklist. This album had so much potential, too.

Toad The Wet Sprocket is one of my favorite bands. I'm so pumped they're going back on tour this summer. it sounds like Emery does an alright job withthe song.

i'm really interested in sksk's cover of r.e.m.'s losing my religion. that song is one of my all-time favorites.

Not too many good song selections on this one.

03/20/06, 07:23 PM
eve 6, everclear, and matchbox 20 should have been represented as well
Inside Out by Eve 6 (I think that is what it is called)
So many good songs by Everclear could have been covered
and especially 3 AM by Matchbook 20 would have been ace.

yea, it's called inside out, it woulda been a good one
i kinda feel like the bands that kinda "captured" the 90s, the ones that kinda had the 90s sound are underrepresented here... i'm sure it will be a good compilation however

I would have to agree. There were some great tracks from the 90's and the ones chosen weren't that great. Maybe they'll issue a second volume?

03/20/06, 07:41 PM
what? no fucking WEEZER?
this comp feels like it should be longer.
but yes, i am still intruiged.

Agreed about the Gin Blossoms and Oasis covers, I am also looking forward to the Toad The Wet Sprocket cover....weird for emery to cover it. They could picked much better hits, wheres dishwala, matchbox, goo goo dolls, lit, pearl jam and the like?

i was like if Third Eye Blind isnt on this motherfucker i swear to god. then i saw Jumper at the bottom.
But yea wish Cartel wasnt doing Wonderwall, and wish there was some weezer. glad to see some RHCP on there. Especially Under The Bridge. One of the greatest songs of alll time.

itsjdiggity
03/20/06, 08:48 PM
damn, no Thrice doing GGD
how can no one mention Plain White T's doing Song 2...the potential energy in that song is strong enough to blow away Rosane Barr. Also, wow...Eighteen Visions covering Marilyn Manson...thats an ozzfesters wet dream in the making...(my choice for most obnoxiously nu-metal song of the year)

03/20/06, 09:10 PM
No "Sex & Candy?"
well, it still looks interesting.
ThatGuy
03/20/06, 09:12 PM
anberlin plays the depeche mode song live. they do it well.
one thing to remember with cover albums...some of the best songs may not be able to be used b/c the original artists don't want their songs being used. and judging by some of these bands on this comp, i can understand.
Pat Brown
03/20/06, 09:30 PM
I'm disappointed that they still haven't changed the placement of the apostrophe. It should be '90s, not 90's. When will they learn?

actually you are uninformed, as long as they pay roylties, any band can cover any song, regardless (as long as they give credits)

then why is no prince song ever covered? why do led zeppelin hardly ever allow their music to be used in movies? permission still has to be asked for.
i would have rather seen Copeland cover "Today" by the Pumpkins.

At purevolume... but that was a while back!
I, personally couldn't care much about Bjork so I was kind of iffy when I first heard they would be doing it.
But damn... TSL owned that song! I completely forgot it was a cover. A Bjork cover.
And yeah, I agree.
The Goo Goo Dolls should have been included.

There are so many songs that would have been a better fit for me as a listener but these are obviously songs that the artist's themselves were fans of and that's why they chose them. I really like the Hit the Lights cover of "Hey Jealousy", which is good because I would've been pretty upset if they messed that song up. But whatever happened to the Third Eye Blind tribute CD they were supposed to be working on...I know that the He is Legend song and Bedlight were supposed to be on there...there were a couple more and I had read Dead Poetic recorded a cover as well. Wish it would surface but looks like it's lost.
