I dont really know much about studio monitors, but i was just wondering if i could use them as computer speakers or not. if so, whats the difference between powered and unpowered monitors, and how do the jack inputs run.

Not sure why this is in Personal Life, but there are articles all over the internet about this. Check out M-Audios LX4 2.1 setup for starters, and then just start reading from there. A lot of it depends on what you are actually listening for, and of course what your budget is.

I have the lower-end M-Audio studio monitors hooked into my laptop and they work pretty well for me. They're not the best speakers, but, really high volumes are more attainable and it's just more of a joy listening to music from bigger speakers as it is. Most laptop speakers I ever heard which are usually small as hell anyway sound like garbage.

listening to music is personal to me. plus i didnt kno where else to post this. but thanks for the help everyone.
Check out Audioengine A5s, MAudio AV40, or Behringer stuff maybe.
Powered means it has an amp built in to the speakers already, unpowered (or passive) means it's just speakers and you'll need external amplification.
Optical (or Toslink) is a digital signal and is good. Coaxial also is a good choice. My motherboard has optical and not coax so that's a factor for me.
Also, remember that your source is very important so invest in a good quality DAC if you don't have one.
