He's a pretty good vocalist and lyricist. Not enough people listen to him.

I honestly can't convince myself I care enough to check this out, but I enjoyed Stereotype Be and still give Dead End Moon a listen every now and then.

"Your Beautiful Mind" is actually a pretty good song. At least give that a try.

Wow what a coincidence I see this name here haha
As a child I liked dcTalk (what Christian kid didn't?) and after they split I remember really digging his solo stuff more than the other two. Recently I decided to check out all their solo stuff again and Kevin was the only one whose music I'd consider good, let alone decent. I've really been digging Stereotype Be and The Blood recently

Ha, yeah... The Blood was a pretty cool album. I'm really looking forward to his new one. The Crashing Gates EP wasn't great but had a pretty cool sound to it, and I think those songs were demos for the album, so it should be a good one.

He has one of the most underrated voices out there, imo
Any word on a release date for his new album?

I don't know how I forgot being a DC Talk fan back in the day but wow. This guy has a really great and incredibly unique voice. I can see alot of people on AP digging his voice.

Agreed. It's a real shame that his only fans are generally leftover fans from when dc Talk released Jesus Freak. He's a great artist in his own right.

I will certainly never deny the greatness of this guy's voice.

Lame video (just some girl's face and lyrics), but that's ok. Great song.

Oh good ol' Kevin... back in the early solo days I liked his stuff least... but then I was all radio-friendly back then; now I'd probably like his stuff most (I only like a little toby for a little fun entertainment value these days). I've checked out Kevin's stuff every now and then and generally liked it but never really got into it... I'll give it another try sometime.
I used to be a huge fan of dc Talk back in my uberchristian days, I even ran a decently sized fan board for a while. They were a hugely positive influence in my life and got me into music, but these days I only listen to Kevin's music out of the group.
I too think people on here would like him, his spirituality shows through more from a worldview than being preachy (similar to Anberlin), and the music is usually very good. I feel his voice is among the best in modern music. There are some cheesy moments in a few songs that are sort of frustrating, like "Out Of The Wild" which has excellent lyrics and instrumentation until the chorus, but... overall he's well worth checking out.
I was hoping the Crashing Gates EP would get a review on here, but maybe the full-length Côtes-d'Armor will? It is some of his strongest work yet and I think it could go far.

is this dude even still making music?
I had no idea lol.
Out of the three, he had the least commercially successful studio career.

Yes, he is, and of course it's the least successful commercially; it's the best quality.

haha yeah I know. He just disappeared from the radar after Stereotype Be and I was curious what he was up to.

Yeah, he released that CD (I'm pretty sure) on the same label as dc Talk was on, and then he was dropped from it because he wasn't pretending to still be dc Talk like Toby does.

Kevin Max has previews of the new single "On Yer Bike" and the "Your Beautiful Mind" remix streaming here (http://soundcloud.com/dpulse/sets/kevin-max-on-yer-bike-digital-single). Sounds good. The single will hit iTunes April 27, and Cotes d' Armor, originally scheduled for April 27, will drop next month.

"On Yer Bike" is streaming on his MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/kevinmax). This song is such ridiculous fun. I could definitely see myself rocking this on a playlist also featuring some new Toby Mac, which is a strange thing to say considering how far these two artists have gone with their own signature styles since dc Talk ended. The lyrics are absurd, too:
retroactive packing lightning
yeah you keep em distracted
hands at your hips, with parted lips
as your walking that whippet
hotel hopping puddle jumping
yeah your full of bologne
mad max in highway gear
all french colonial
on yer bike
get on yer bike
get on yer bike
get on yer bike
sad as cancer on a cracker
but your as bold as a panther
you got the will of a sailor
and the color of danger
finger flipping trust fund hippie
yeah your growing your beard out
as you rocket through jonskoping
yeah making em scream and shout
on yer bike
get on yer bike
gotta ride yer bike
get on yer bike
silly rabbit don’t you know these trix are for kids?
and the more you look the more that you get tripped
pool hall, dive bar, fashion mall, 7 eleven
on my back, like a monkey as we tear past all the tenants
(smooth as a greyhound)
politics be damned
we’re the children of 80’s
saki to me saki to me
so overrated
gym peddling, busted meddling
yeah you sleep at 4 seasons
as you smoke that marijuana
with your thirty diseases
on yer bike
get on yer bike
get on yer bike
get away on a bike
south of france, Amsterdam
down by the roadside
Budpapest, Prague, London
riding on the wildside
we’ll take a train to transylvania
and overnight become catholic
til we’re caught by interpol
and were back at the racetrack
on yer bike
get on yer bike.
your legs hold me tight
your legs hold me tight

It's odd to read my posts from last year kind of since I have rediscovered his music and am a moderate fan. I really enjoy Crashing Gates in particular.

Yeah, I think Crashing Gates is my favorite Kevin Max release so far. Have you gotten around to Between the Fence and the Universe or The Imposter yet?

Bump. Cotes d'Armor (True Rebels) drops on Tuesday. My preorder came with an immediate download, so I've already listened to it a few times, and it's not bad, though maybe a bit long. "Walking Through Walls" is great.
Also, I'm seeing him for the first time tonight. Kind of funny that I saw Toby last year and will again this December at a big area, but Kevin's playing this little cafe/bar/venue I've never heard of. He's the only member of dc Talk I haven't seen live yet, so I'm pretty excited. I'd love to see him play "Jesus Freak" or something, as he seems to sometimes do that still, but since this is a tour to promote his new project, I'm not sure how likely that is. His solo material is great, though, so I'm fine with him rocking it in his own right.
Also, it's funny to see my bitter Toby comments in this thread seeing as I've rediscovered my love for his solo material over the past year.

Before this thread retreats back to the deepest recesses of the Music Forum (since I'm apparently the only person who cares about this man), here's a fun cover of "Lake of Fire":

...and here's a nice little press release that talks about his life, solo projects, and what we all care most about: dc Talk.
