Female Musicians/Singer-Songwriters/Fronted Bands

Hey all :)

I need some new recommendations for female singer-songwriters and female fronted bands in the alternative genre. I know the 90s have a lot of good ones, but I never got up to discovering them and I wouldn't know where to start anyhow. Most of the music I listen to are sung by men and since I've made it a resolution at the start of the year to start working on music I will need to listen to more female singers so I could get acquainted with female vocal capabilities and apply it to my music. The bands that I've been listening to a lot lately are quite varied, from mainstream pop punk and powerpop to indie-alternative and sometimes a little bit of metal, but some of my favourites are Brand New, Moving Mountains, City and Colour, Manchester Orchestra, Damien Rice, Bright Eyes and Jimmy Eat World.

Company of Thieves...hands down amazing (especially live). Not gonna lie, i am usually not into female fronted bands but this one literally can be a band for everyone. got to see them a few times, and genevieve (the singer) has the most charming stage presence. They are okay but the thing is I've heard that sound a million times, and for there to be a girl fronting a band it has to be something new and innovative. Or at the very least, she has to be a little more "hardcore" I hate to use that word. lol Like the girl from TAT even though I don't like the band I can see how she is like "fuck girl's not being able to go as hard as guys in bands" get what I'm saying?. Although good for your friend and I'm sure they'll do fine. They are easy listening. Anyways that's just my opinion.
