I just came across this trade today as I was looking through some of the players profiles, but anyway I thought this was pretty funny.
06-Feb-98: New York Islanders traded Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe and 3rd round selection (Jarkko Ruutu) in 1998 to the Vancouver Canucks for Trevor Linden.
At the time Linden was hot, but ever since that trade he has not played a great NHL season. Look what Islanders could have had. Haha, but heres the funny part.
29-May-99: New York Islanders traded Trevor Linden to the Montreal Canadiens for 1st round selection (Branislav Mezei) in 1999.
and then
03-Jul-02: Florida Panthers traded Jason Wiemer to the NY Islanders for Branislav Mezei.
A year later, the Islanders put Wiemer on waivers. (He is now on canucks with 3 points this season, hah)
So basically, the NYIslanders traded some of the best players in the league for nothing. Who would have thought how good Bertuzzi McCabe and Ruutu would become.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

also todd bertuzzi sucks.
yeah, he must be a terrible player. that's why he gets many points, earns many millions of dollars, has gained the respect of his peers, and was chosen for the Canadian Olympic team.
He does suck.

That doesn't make him a bad player. That's like saying Heatley sucks because he had his car accident.
The Islanders are garbage. That is all.

wow, you do not even know the half of it. these are trades the islanders have made, they arent exact (as far as draft picks and minor players) but these are major players invovled in the deals
they traded wade redden for bryan berard - redden becomes a fantastic defender for ottawa, berard is just about out of hockey with an eye injury
zdeno chara and isles first round pick (which became jason spezza) for alexei yashin - Chara is a beast and spezza plays on the best line in hockey. Before mark parrish was traded last week, yashin was 4th on the islanders in goals despite being one of the highest paid players in the league.
traded roberto luongo and oli jokinen to florida for mark parrish, oleg kvasha, and the panthers first round choice (first overall, they drafted rick dipietro)- luongo is arguably the best goalie in hockey, jokinen is the captain of florida and one of the best fowards in the game. Parrish was a solid power forward but was traded last week, kvasha played on a line with yashin yet scored only 15 points this season (the only forward who had less points was eric goddard, the 4th line goon). DiPietro has played amazing as of late, but his poor play at the beginning of the season may eventually be the downfall of the isles season.
couple that with some other guys we traded away, bertuzzi (best power forward in the league before the moore incident), mccabe, kasperitis, raffi torres (20 something goals in his second season in the nhl with edmonton), tim connoly and taylor pyatt (leading the buffalo resurgence).
it just makes me sick how mike milbury destroyed this team for 10 years.

sucking doesnt necessarily imply sucking on the ice.
bertuzzi sucks at living.

Haha they borrowed Issiah's Being a GM for Dummies book.
oh crap, i made a huge mistake
the luongo/jokinen trade, it didnt involve a draft pick, it was straight up luongo and jokinen for parrish and kvasha, but the islanders had the number one draft pick and took dipietro. Now they could have kept luongo and still had the pick. Does anybody know who went number two in that draft?
DANY HEATLEY
FUCK YOU MIKE MILBURY
Haha they borrowed Issiah's Being a GM for Dummies book.
no, milbury wrote the book, he has been doing it a lot longer than isiah, although i must say that milbury didn't have the money that isiah has to work with.

He doesn't get that many points, and I highly doubt that he's gained any respect from his peers. If Bertuzzi actually used his size and his talent, he could be in the top 5 in the NHL. He just plays like a pussy now because he's scared to hurt anyone else and it really shows in his game.

the islanders. what a joke.
the islanders. what a joke.
you know, i complain about my team but that doesn't mean i do not root for them, for you to call them a joke is stupid considering they are now a competitive team. And it is not their fault, it was the gm's fault.
