All my freinds and I are sitting here with nothing to do. HELP ME OUT PLEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
u suck too bitch
Honestly, is it so hard to write out the word "you"? I don't understand the oMg WtF writing either. Would you submit a paper to a teacher written, "tHe PrOgReSsIoN oF cHaRaCtEr'S iN hUcK fInN"? I hope not. It takes about a half of a second longer to actually type out a word, and hopefully spell it correctly.
ur = not a word
your = posessive
you're = you are
there = direction
their = possesive
they're = they are
I just don't feel like these concepts are very difficult.
Maybe I'm the only one with this little pet-peeve.
Anyone else bothered by this?

Ditto.
It irritates me as well. Gives everyone in my age group a bad name. We probably deserve most of it though. :)

Haha... I don't mind that kinda thing too much. It distinguishes the internet from the text books I have to read etc, so I'm not complaining. Plus, I find it amusing that people think it actually makes them look cool. See: Myspace.
The thing that REALLY pisses me off, though, is when people attempt to write correctly, and are so convinced they've got it right, but completely fuck their grammar and spelling up. There is a difference between there, their and they're, you absolute tards.
I'll shut up now.

it does bother me to a great extent
however i find that i don't use much punctuation here, and i don't capitalize properly, so i guess i'm a bit guilty, too

I don't like when people type improperly, but sometimes I'm too lazy to use the exact puncuation that should be used..and I'm too lazy to use capitalization a lot, too.

I'm not bothered by failure to use capitals properly... I do it myself sometimes. I'm too lazy.

when people make it their problem to go around and tell everyone that their grammar is wrong pisses me off more then the people that misspell things...
actually... people that type LyKe ThIs WiN fOr mOsT aNnOyiN

03/22/06, 08:05 AM
no but with all seriousness, perfect grammar isn't a huge deal to me. what's important is that the person writes/types coherently. at least on aim, i write how i speak and i'm not going to try to talk to you guys or anyone online as if i were writing up a paper for some class. but i agree, some people take it too far and just look like assholes with their typing.
one thing that drives me insane for some reason is when people say "da" instead of "the." ah!!

It bothers me to a point where I will go back and capitalize my I's. I'm used to Word doing it for me.

Same here. But I think everyone should at least attempt to spell correctly and use words in the proper order...

i think the biggest problem with all the abbreviations and shit is that kids are growing up doing it without recognizing it's not proper english. i can understand shortening words when you're chatting, but when it's a myspace profile or something, it's unnecessary. the point of the random capitalization of letters business completely escapes me.
Same here. But I think everyone should at least attempt to spell correctly and use words in the proper order... this just made laugh. such a simple request...

I agree 100%. It makes most teenagers look extremely dumb, and I for one, am not.
It's not that hard to type correctly.
I do however, sometimes not capatilize everything, but I do not type 'lyK diS!11!!!'.

i'll admit it...when i was like 12 and i first got on AOL my whole profile was TyPiNg LiKe THiS...wicked lame...
i think i gave that up after a little while just because it took ridiculously long to write anything...i don't know how kids write like that all the time though
but anyways, yeah i've learned to appreciate spelling everything correctly...but i hardly capitalize anything [except God] or use the right punctuation...

I used to type like that all the time. Now it just feels wrong to type words "lyke dis."
It kind of annoys me. My friends make fun of me because I say "well" and not "good." Like "He played mad good yoo" and I'm like "Yeah, he played pretty well." And they start laughing like it's wrong. Haha.

you mentioned grammar but it's mostly spelling that you're attacking. It's not about being stupid, it's more about being lazy. Many times I'll see my spelling/grammar mistakes and be like...whatever it's just the internet. I barely use spell check/grammar check...it really doesn't matter.
i mstly tipe 1337 cuz iz funy lololol

I am all for rereading what you type but as for correct grammar, i guess it depends on what you are saying. If your trying to prove an important point or win a heated arguement it is best to reread and edit. If its a quick statement it doesnt really matter.
The worst is when people attempt to short form everything on the internet to the point that i have no clue what is going on or spell the word wrong on purpose...ie : "kool"
yea, im all about 1337 pWnage

last semester during finals week there was this one girl in my english class who turned in an essay that had more internet abbreviations than I could count. I mean, thats just stupid. but it also drives me insane when people type like that on AIM or forums.

I'm always on my friends about that. It sounds so wrong to say, "I hope I did good on my test". Ironically, they start bragging about how good they did on an English test.
Let them make fun of you for using adverbs correctly. :appl:

I cannot stand it. Nothing is worse than seeing intellegent people write, type, or even talk like they have never had an education.
What really bothers me is when people say something along the lines of, "I seen him at the mall yesterday."

All of my friends have trouble with these. I always have to correct them. I've been trying to stop, though. But I just feel like I need to fix it...

based on dictionary.com's definition of own, i guess it'd be: phttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/omacr.gifn
if you have no idea how to pronounce that, try: pohn. that's how i've always pronounced it.

This irritates the hell out of me, too. Some of my friends aren't too good at English and make honest mistakes which I don't mind too much (and they'd feel bad if I corrected them). But when people type 'yew' or 'teh', instead of 'you' or 'the', it really annoys me. They know full well how to spell, and it's not like abbreviating it for chatspeak because it has the same number of letters in it. I just don't see the point.
I have to say I hate bad grammar, bad punctuation, and typing lyk dis or l1K3 ThIs. However, I am guily of using teh, and pwn (which I have always pronounced as "own"). Just habit, I imagine.
I don't know if it was ever published in the US, but over here w had a fantastic book about the abuse of the English language called "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861976771/qid=1150051855/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/203-7825422-3186337).

what's goin' on w/ chu? R u doin' summer school this yr? I'm tryna get my classes done rite now, but my schedule so messed up i might have to end up sittin' this one out. Preciate you hittin' me up on my page. Holla back. Peace.
This is how this guy types ALL the time. I guess he tries to type in a way that states how he actually talks. Annoying.

Your/you're is easily the most irritating of grammar mistakes. It actually turns me off a great deal when I talk to a girl online that I just met and she says something like "haha your silly." It's almost as if I have a grammar fetish. A girl who's smart and knows the difference between your and you're is a huge plus for me, haha.

YES. finally someone has said what i've been saying for like 5 years. it's very annoying and it's like, only americans do this. i've seen kids speaking french and german on messageboards and stuff and they spell out every single thing. it's not hard to do, i don't know why more people don't give it a shot.
