I have to endure Chester French for my upcoming Blink-182 date, and I'm wondering what are some of the worst bands you people have had to stand through in order to see another band. I saw Set Your Goals open for Bayside and New Found Glory, and I personally thought they were horrific. So, how about you?

The Friday Night Boys and Stereo Skyline. Horrible. They were on the Hey Monday tour, but I was there for This Providence.
Oh, also Danger Radio.

Aw, I had wanted to go to that just for This Providence also! But I didn't want to see those two bands, or Hey Monday for that matter. I had to stand through them to see The Academy Is in the fall and it was awful.

The Hush Sound. Not bad, but out of all the bands I've seen live, they were the worst. I've seen Panic at the Disco, Motion City Soundtrack, Phantom Planet, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, Hey Monday and Fall Out Boy.

Haha yeah, The Bigger Lights were really bad too but they at least made their set fun. I couldn't even understand what FNB were saying. And I didn't want to see Hey Monday either, but my friend did, so that was that.

The Hush Sound is the best band out of that list besides maybe Phantom Planet :-|

Also, Attack in Black.
Now it wasn't that they were horrible or the worst but when I think of their live performance I remember it being very dull.

Yeah I heard they are terrible live. At Warped, my friend had wanted me to see them with her, but thankfully there was a Chiodos signing at the same time. Meeting the gorgeous Craig Owens > seeing TWTA.
In Case Of Fire, they were so boring. I've only seen 5 bands live though besides my friends band and all the others have been great.
At Warped, Black Tide played right before Streetlight Manifesto. I laughed at them the whole time. And we decided to watch Jeffree Star. Not only did he take most of his clothes off, you could hear the bass at the in the parking lot.

Ooh, i just remembered. While waiting for A Day To Remember to play at Bamboozle, I had to listen to The Acacia Strain...they were playing the next stage, and started a Wall of Death, which I unhappily got tossed into.

I'll admit I like BMTH, but when more than 5 girls happen to be in the crowd for them, then its not worth it. They did play a really killer show with Mis Sigs and The Ghost Inside, no girls happened to get in the small venue that night.
Let it be noted that no matter what happened, Thursday played the pants off of BMTH every night of Taste.

Anyways, bands I had to endure:
- A Skylit Drive
- Ocean Is Theory (one of the WORST bands i've ever seen, they sold like ZERO merch that night)
- Pierce The Veil
- All Shall Perish
- Cheyne Stokes (Some wackass band on Standby Records who broke up not too long ago)
- Countess local openers that never should have been there in the first place. Jacksonville is the worst, I never had heard of having FIVE atrocious local bands open for a small tour package who's set times were drastically reduced because of all the openers.

I've gotten pretty lucky with who I've had to listen to, worst were A Skylit Drive and Saosin at Warped a couple days ago. Saosin's alright, but the vocalists are just bad live. ADTR was pretty boring for me honestly.

i saw avenged sevenfold with saosin i believe a couple years back, cove saosin not green, and it was ok, but this band opiate the masses opened and it was absolutely awful, and once a i saw incubus and the had a comedian open for them, mayb it was their idea of a joke cuz he was not funny, i dont think anything i see will ever top that comedian opening up for incubus
Nevershoutnever on the Bamboozle Roadshow, that was like ear torture. oh yes and Janelle Monae opening for Parmaore/No Doubt, I couldn't understand a word the girl was saying, does not belong in large venues. and Akon opening for Gwen Stefani, holy crap, soo bad.
And I just bought tickets to see Mercy Mercedes in sept, and will most likely have to sit through Tina Parol, The Ready Set, and Stereo Skyline. kill me now.

i saw gwen stacy, the acacia strain and whitechapel open for unearth about a year ago, all of them bands were pretty bad. whitechapel was a little more entertaining to watch but i still didn't like them
luckily protest the hero played that show too and made all the open acts look like noobz and of course unearth was good live

Aww, I'm sorry that when you saw them you thought they weren't good! They are a great band, it's a shame they broke up.
I like them, but out of the limited list of bands I've seen they were the worst. I would have said Motion City soundtrack, their equipment fucked up halfway through, but that wasn't their fault. It was funny that Justin told us to say "Great job, fuck ups" to the sound guys.
Have Hush Sound really broke up?

I saw Mindless Self Indulgence live like 6 years (I was into them, something I'm not too proud of today) and there was this opener of two guys from I think Canada called Champagne (Think like Brokencyde except basically with a ghettoblaster and a keyboard). It was the only time I believed I've seen a band beg for the audience to like them. They of course, basically got booed off the stage. It was a horrible 20 minutes to endure.
Also, even though I like Bubba Sparxxx, during his opening slot for Blink 182 on their $1 Dolla Bill tour, the audience in Detroit tore him apart. And he wasn't much better live. Some guy threw a firecracker at him and it went off. Somehow, he dodged it.
Finally, I had to endure a radio show of butt rock to see Blink 182 and Sum 41 9 years ago. It was Hoobastank, Adema (think Korn) and 311 (I understand some people LOVE them, I am not one of them. Their live show went on forever.) It wasn't a pleasant experience.
Saosin opened up for Alexisonfire few years back.
sigh...when Anthony Green left so did I
why? are you one of those "Anthony-Green-is-God-and-everyone-else-who-could-possibly-sing-in-a-band-named-Saosin-is-horrible-because-I-am-a hater-and-only-care-about-the-lead-singer" people?

I'll raise my hand and say I liked Anthony Green-era Saosin better simply for the fact that Cove Reber's voice is apparently only good when a computer is utilized to fix his deficiencies...the boy cannot carry it live.
Of course, Green often struggles as well. I guess the moral of the story would be that you shouldn't sing higher than your true register.

Probably Envy on the Coast, or maybe Mercy Mercedes.
My friends were playing a show once, and a band dropped at the last minute, so this kid in a Biggie shirt gets on stage and starts playing annoying Dashboard Confessional-reject songs, and he broke 4 strings because he was using a pick that was way too hard, so it sounded like shit anyways. It made me want to stake a pencil in my ears.

Hellfest 2004... the Saturday night main stage rotation went like this... Underoath, E-Town Concrete, Mest, Andrew W.K. and Killswitch Engage...
I still am wondering how Mest got out of there alive... the pit was throwing piss filled water bottles and everything they could at them. The lead singer had the balls to egg them on and keep throwing shit at them. That was an amazing night of that show though, it was the night Adam D got crushed with the mic from Howard and then dared someone to lick the wound for $5.
Why did Mest even play Hellfest?

Thankfully, most of the bands that have opened for bands I wanna see have been surprisingly good and their performance really got me into their stuff (This Is My Suitcase opening a secret FOB show, Good Old War opening for Straylight Run). And usually, I can at least endure an opening band, even if I don't like them (Hey Monday opened for FOB and they were at least tolerable).
But Metro Station, The Devil Wears Prada, and The White Tie Affair... holy fuck. Never again. Especially TWTA... it was painful.

When I went to see MC Chris in Buffalo, I had to sit through this band called I Am The Dream (http://www.myspace.com/iamthedreammusic). They made complete fools of themselves and since it was also 4/20, they were too baked to realize how bad they were. A few days later they were kicked off the tour.

damn after seeing a lot of your posts, I must have been lucky. No really shitty bands opened up...
Rockapella - No one opened up for them and it was amazing when they did "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego"
Boston - No one opened up for them either and well that was just the most amazing show ever
Thursday, Thrice, Coheed and Cambria - I think Thursday closed that night, but who cares all three were headliners in my opinion.
As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Killswitch Engage - Same as the above except KSE closed the show out.
Art Alexakis acoustic tour - local bands opened but they were good...
I feel bad that you all had to deal with shitty openers...

Shit, there are just so many over the years. Some that stick out:
--All three bands that opened for TEN on their farewell tour. I remember Melee and The Rocket Summer, can't remember the third. They were all absolutely horrendous.
--I saw that bizarre Honda Civic Tour with The Get-Up Kids, Thrice, and Dashboard. Val Emmich opened and he was awfully bad.
--Number 12 Looks Like You opened for Thursday/Minus the Bear. Didn't fit with the other two bands at all.
--I've seen Misery Signals 4 or 5 times and usually the openers are terrible, but that has more to do with my dislike of metalcore outside MS than anything else.
--The Pale Pacific opened for Dredg and Circa Survive. Ack.
--30 Seconds to Mars were all sorts of awful opening for Incubus quite a few years back.
And as a bonus, an opening act that should've sucked but really didn't was seeing Limp Bizkit open for Metallica on the Sanitarium tour in '03. I thought they were going to suck and so did the crowd, but they were actually quite decent and won the crowd over, mostly.

Okay. So have any of you kids heard of Rig One? This guy is some strange poet rapper rock thing, and he opened for Conor Oberst? Did anyone there want to hear rap at all? No, and this is why this man was booed. He super sucked.

Mercy Mercedes, really? They're pretty solid pop-punk.
But mine are probably NeverShoutNever! and Metro Station.

:-( I think they're pretty fantastic live.
Worst I've ever seen were Metro Station, Bring Me The Horizon, Breathe Carolina. Never again.
Also, there was one local "band" that consisted of a no-older-than-fifteen-year-old boy who mostly sang shitty off-pitch covers of nevershoutnever songs, and who obviously was incapable of playing an acoustic guitar. I left before he even finished his set. It was horrendous.

Ooh, i just remembered. While waiting for A Day To Remember to play at Bamboozle, I had to listen to The Acacia Strain...they were playing the next stage, and started a Wall of Death, which I unhappily got tossed into.

ASP, really? What was wrong with them? I like a few songs by them and I'm considering seeing them with August Burns Red in a few days.
Anyways, mine would have to be:
Secondhand Serenade (how anyone likes them(/him?) is beyond me)
Hawthorne Heights
All Time Low (only caught two songs at Warped before I left to see Gallows, just terrible, and the singer is annoying live)
Emarosa
Otep (spent half the set whining about how she hates Dubya)
The Birthday Massacre
Miss May I (terrible live)
Alesana would be on there, but I conveniently get to skip them each time they come here playing over bands that are better then them (A Static Lullaby, The Chariot) and come September, The Bled and Enter Shikari.

I was shocked to find out last year that Fastball is still an active band...And I'm from Austin.
They played a free show at Penn State. Nine Days opened acoustic(Story of a Girl). Nine Days were great. The singer has an awesome voice and they were a ton of fun, it's real sad they never made it beyond that single.
Fastball was a completely different story. I had heard their music on the radio and in Disney Channel movies growing up so I expected it to be fun. The one singer/guitarist was completely hammered, the other extremely high. They turned up the bass so loud it was almost all you could hear, completely unbearable. I yelled to turn it down. They were all drunk and thought it would be funny to TURN IT UP LOUDER. They couldn't play their instruments at all, and weren't even playing the right notes. It just sounded absolutely horrible... Even fans of the band left, and two fans in front of us turned around and said "They shouldn't play anywhere but weddings and high school proms" as they left.
Needless to say, it was a huge disappointment.

I saw them at the Detroit Warped and really didn't like it. I don't like how Craig performs. He's so busy thanking people and asking the crowd to start walls of death and start crowdsurfing. Not to mention that he doesn't sing half of the lyrics and does this weird thing where he pulls the microphone away on every word. I wanted so much to scream at him to shut the hell up and just sing. Seriously made me feel physically sick. I had never heard them before yesterday. Was waiting for another band to play. I wanted to fucking die.

i saw gwen stacy, the acacia strain and whitechapel open for unearth about a year ago, all of them bands were pretty bad. whitechapel was a little more entertaining to watch but i still didn't like them
luckily protest the hero played that show too and made all the open acts look like noobz and of course unearth was good live
my concert Thursday night:
the Whitechapel/All That Remains/Killswitch Engage tour happened to play Buffalo the same night as Billy Talent/Rancid/Rise Against. So they combined the shows in one venue.
Whitechapel was god awful. ATR was not my thing, but they weren't bad either. Killswitch was pretty damn good. Other 3 bands were amazing as usual.

Holy shit I know what you're talking about. I was sitting at Warped in the amphitheater waiting for someone... I don't recall. But I remember not being able to understand a single word as he sang and / or talked. It was a series of gurgles that he decided would be music. Our entire group would make fun and attempt to decipher it but.... to no avail.

I tend to enjoy a rock show regardless of who's playing. But I guess Escape the Fate would be the worst I've seen.

Wow, that's embarrassing. fortunately we've got Spoon to make up for them...LOL.
I get the feeling that they're trying really hard not to accept the reality that they're huge has-beens.

Some forgotten local Underoath/Atreyu-wannabe band that played at a friend's show. It wasn't too bad, as my friends and I had fun laughing our asses off at how horrible they sounded.
Not to mention, a number of other bands I've seen that either played sloppy, or were just plain boring.
Please spread the word to your friends that they suck.

Given how much they suck...the slight chance that animals may learn speech and communicate with humans makes that worthwhile.

That's what it kinda seemed like for sure. That's what was real cool about Nine Days. They know they had one huge song, and they didn't try to pretend like they're still huge. They don't do a lot of recording anymore and I know the singer is an english teacher in New York now. They just do shows every now and then for fun. Fastball made a point to say they've never had real jobs...

Saosin opened up for Alexisonfire few years back.
sigh...when Anthony Green left so did I
I saw Alexisonfire back in 2007. It was Dear & Departed, Alexisonfire, Norma Jean, and Saosin (in that order). We ended up just leaivng since Saosin was headlining and all the other bands had already played. There was absolutely no reason to stay and listen to them. I was extremely unimpressed.
Alexisonfire put on one hell of a show though, so it was all good.

Oh i dunno. To each his own I guess. I thought it was a great show, and the crowd was great too. Which is awesome considering I usually go to shows like All Time Low with tons of annoying girls. And I'm really enjoying their new album.

Ooh, i just remembered. While waiting for A Day To Remember to play at Bamboozle, I had to listen to The Acacia Strain...they were playing the next stage, and started a Wall of Death, which I unhappily got tossed into.
the Acacia Strain blow the shit out of A Day to Remember and you're lucky you only got thrown into a wall of death at a TAS show, kids get FUCKED UP at their shows, you're lucky you didn't catch a fist or five to the face.
Speaking of the Acacia Strain, fucking amazing band.
Probably the worst bands I've had to see live were Bring Me the Horizon, Pierce the Veil and Emarosa. PTV isn't too, too bad but I don't like their singer. Emarosa is impossible to listen to cause they're boring and Jonny is horrible live, plus I can't stand him cause of Dance gavin Dance. And Bring Me the Horizon just flat out sucks, I've had to see them three times and every time I do I just go and hit scene kids who think they're sweet for liking BMTH. Just about everyone I know that listens to them admitted that they wouldn't have even checked them out if Oli wasn't hot. It's bullshit, they see he's hot and that's the sole reason they like the band. Some try to say they like the 'music' but I can play countless bands that sound similar and are better and they won't like a single one of them but if they were hot and I showed them pictures of a super hot vocalist before and then played it, they'd like it and it's bullshit. BMTH is the boy band of metalcore, end of story.
i had to watch cancer bats before i could see four year strong and bring me the horizon at taste of chaos, then i had to see thursday after those two.

Everybody in this thread isn't naming actual bad bands, but bands they dislike; all of the worst bands I've seen are the local ones.
Winner.
Let us name actual bands that suck live, not just suck in general.
Also, the word "awful" must be the only word most people have heard of.

Hahaha. The hush sound is actually talented, and not generic, unlike Cobra or maybe HeyMonday. I'm guessing you have only been to the HCT '08 and Bnd Tour... You have yet to encounter a horrible band. Trust me, it will happen! I had to watch Metro Station and Stereo Skyline... THOSE are awful bands!!
I actually have been to a concert that featured Metro Station, but I decided to miss it. I didn't say Hush Sound are bad, how many times do I need to say that? Trust me, after I got to Reading this year, I will have plenty of bands to complain about. ;-)

if the worst band youve seen live was set your goals then you either dont go to many shows or you happen to be very very lucky.
I think it's a combination of the two. :\
And I'm not saying they're the WORST, I just wasn't really into them at that show. I'm generally a pretty musically tolerant person.

Since ive been with them since the beginning.. Like seriously I was at their FIRST show and the show where the Roadrunner dude signed them, I love their music. Well mostly the older stuff... Disappearance was amazing all around. FTTUTY was basically Disappearance with a few added songs.. Most of them being good. The new album has like 2 listenable tracks haha. But I stick with them for live shows because I like the energy and all that jazz, but towards the end of tours Nathans voice is SHOT man

LOL, WTF? And I think Madina Lake are awesome. But I've never really seen them live....I only caught the last song at Warped.
I think they're an incredibly generic pop-rock band aimed at teenage girls. One of those teenage girls happened to be at the Coheed And Cambria show in London when there was supposedly a fight backstage between Coheed's crew and Madina Lake's. That girl was a dwarf, and i wasn't looking where i was going when i was walking back from the bar, and i stood on her. She was annoyed. I was drunk and had just watched Circa Survive so i was pretty pleased with myself.
edit: helps if i actually quote what i was referring to.
Right before they broke up, Blink 182 was horrible live! Could tell they had problems just by how shitty their shows were!
