Ridley Scott is going to direct a prequel to the Alien series. This is the first time he's been involved since the first movie.

Don't know how many Alien nerds we have here, but I thought it may interest some people.
I'm not sure about this, it's been a while since Scott has done a good movie, but at least I am much more excited about it now that I know he's attatched.

PS sorry if it's a repost.

Aren't the AvP movies prequels anyway?

We don't talk about that.

Haha, the series itself isn't bad, the movies however are.

Either way, prequels in general are terrible ideas. A prequel to one of the greatest and most suspenseful horror movies of all time is just idiotic. I'd rather they just do something after Alien3 so we can get a nice end to the Alien series instead of having Resurrection as the final movie in the timeline.

I see AVP as spin-off prequels rather than prequels. I agree they shouldn't do a prequel, however I think as Ridley Scott made the original, he's less likely to piss on his masterpiece.

I don't really know how he can't though. Alien and Aliens were kind of the 2 extremes. One movie no one knew what they were, there was only one and that was it. The other was a huge war between the marines and aliens and was mostly action. I don't know how you can do a prequel to Alien without ruining that.

But it's too early to actually judge it yet either way. We'll see what happens I guess.

Regardless, I will definitely be seeing it.

That fucking plot synopsis sounds like dog shit. The details that leaked months ago make it sound like a worthy prequel:

Possible massive spoilers:

The story follows a group of terraforming aliens the script calls ‘Growers’ — these are seemingly of the race from which comes the original film’s ‘space jockey.’ There’s a strange sequence in which the Growers use a bit of mind control to instigate a homosexual encounter between Fin and Karik, two male human slave farmers. The aliens, you see, are a single-sex species and don’t understand the male-female breeding requirements of humans.
The title alien — the xenomorph — is a creature used by Growers as part of the terraforming process, and at a point in the script it develops into the creature we know and love. So we won’t see it in the form we know right off; this will be a payoff later in the script.
Into the group of Growers and human slaves comes a ship crewed by “the usual Alien misfits” complete with a female character that sounds like Vasquez from Aliens, and another woman (http://www.slashfilm.com/spoilerfilled-details-emerge-plot-characters-ridley-scotts-alien-prequel/#) named Truks that is reportedly the role for which Gemma Arterton was considered. Ridley Scott has also reportedly met with Lance Henricksen, though how the guy who fit into the established Alien storyline might work in this film, I can only conjecture. (I’d guess he’d appear only towards the end, as the xenomorphs are out of control, in a story thread that would point right towards the original Alien.

Alien has such a gorgeous BluRay transfer. Goddamn, I love that film. To see it in high definition is a true experience.

No longer a prequel or anything related to the Alien franchise whatsoever anymore! Thank goodness.
