I forgot about this one! That was totally an impulse buy for me.

In recent years, my CD purchases have been well premeditated, but, when I was younger, I purchased Black Sails in the Sunset by AFI and I love that album to this day.

There's only two albums I bought on impulse, without knowing the band nor the type of music and just going pretty much off of the cover art. Those were Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and The Shape of Punk to Come by Refused. I think my gambles worked out pretty well.

recently (past five years-ish):
the format - dog problems!!!!!!!!
copeland - beneath medicine tree
augustana - all the stars and boulevards
before:
counting crows - films about ghosts
matchbox twenty - mad season
train - my private nation

i'm sure there are a lot more... especially when i was younger i used to just listen to one or two songs and then get excited and go buy the cd. i still do it sometimes, but rarely. mostly with bands i've really been anticipating a new release from.

Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High. I don't LOVE this album, but when I first bought it I didn't even listen to it, but when I heard a few of the songs at my friend's house I started listening to it.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication. I bought it for Californication, Scar Tissue and Around the World but after I listened to it when I was bored one nigh, I immediately fell in love with it.

I used to do this back in the day before I had all my music stolen then converted to digital sales.

Um, Chiodos All's Well That Ends Well

Hahah I remember the packaging for HORSE the band's album had a sticker claiming if I liked "Reggie and The Full Effect and The Esoteric" I'd like them. So I bought them and fell in love although they were shitty RIYL.

I basically have done that with a lot of my purchases in the past. Just scope out the record stores for a good 2 hours until I found some bands that caught my eye.

It was $6 last time I was at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. I almost bought it, but I really like Swing Life Away and Give It All, and I already had both those songs. But if it's still there, I might have to pick it up too.

But my favorite impulse buy is probably The Postal Service's Give Up. It's technically my mom's since I gave it to her for mother's day four years back, but I am the one who bought it.
This sounds terrible, but when my mom's car was totaled last week, the second thing I thought after "Is everyone okay?" was "I wonder if we still have the CD?" Yesterday my mom handed me a pile of CDs and cases she took out of the car right before it got towed away and asked me to sort them and put them in their cases. She actually saved it.

You're lucky....my mom lost Cities by Anberlin only a week after I bought it on clearance sale for $6.99...I never even had a chance to rip it to my computer, and now I can't seem to find it for less than $14.99 at any store :(

Well, I'm lucky, but for reasons other than the CDs. Such as that my dad was alive, and that I opted to stay home to get some sleep, I was supposed to be in the car.
Good luck finding it. If you don't want a hard copy, I'm sure it's cheaper than that on iTunes.
