I don't know about parasitic but I think bands should be more selfish when it comes to making a record instead of pandering to what their fans want to hear or what is popular or what the label says, as naive as that certainly is.

In this case, how does Gabe Saporta owe this guy something? He hasn't taken anything away from Midtown fans but gave an opportunity to a band. The argument is why he is promoting this band and why is he getting this band signed when they aren't the most sincere musicians out there and are hopping on a bandwagon trend to make a quick buck. Just because people own a Midtown CD and the majority dislike Millionaires doesn't mean Saporta should have that hanging over his decision now or in the future.

They have the fans to thank for where they are but they should never let that change what they want to do imo. If the fans dislike the new direction or new project then they won't buy the CD and come to a show, it is the musicians loss.

I think I maybe worded my first comment wrong because it seems like I am saying that bands owe nothing at all whereas I was more referring to this example of Saporta where the dude isn't even in that band anymore. I agree with what you are saying that bands do have a level of decency that they should show to their fans.

It's not even really about Cobra, in the end. Yes, everyone loved Midtown. And they don't seem to like Cobra as much (to put it nicely). But my problems with Gabe are the same problems I have with Capitol, and with Geffen, and on and on and on. He's promoting shit, allowing people to put money into this shit, and taking money away from bands who really deserve it. Essentially, he is betraying all the bands like Midtown, who are working hard and pouring their souls into their music, to promote a band so bad that even his fans and defenders will admit they're shit. How about helping out your roots there Gabe?
