The old thread must have been created by Ben because i can no longer find it.

Furr was one of the more enjoyable albums of 2008 and "Furr" (the song) is fantastic.

Nice to see somebody posted, with all the shit bands that get talked about around here it's good to see a decent one get some discussion

I really enjoyed Furr. I keep meaning to listen to their older releases.

Sleepy Time in the Western World is one of my favorites off of that album.

Wild Mountain Nation is pretty good.

Wild Mountain Nation is pretty good.
I agree. I saw them play a show in Chicago and got hooked. I think my favorite song off either album is Black River Killer, off of Furr. I think both of those albums were in Rolling Stone or Pitchfork's top 50 of 2007 and 2008.

Don't forget their new EP comes out August 25th. It will feature "Black River Killer" and six previously unreleased tracks. I'll probably be reviewing it.

Listened to the EP a week ago or so, liked it a fair amount, not great but decent

Bumping this. I just got their song Black River Killer off of a podcast. Very killer indeed.

They're okay, but they had a horrible live show when I saw them last summer.

What about the show didn't you like? or just poor all around.

It's a small club, so you're witness to everything. There's no smoke-or-mirror tricks that can conceal anything. Yet they had fog machines and bathed the room with theatrics while they took ten minute breaks to smoke in the midst of the set, as if it would pacify us while they piss around. Moreover, they were lethargic; appearing utterly bored to be there. They made no effort to interact with the crowd and didn't utter a word between songs except after the last song when the singer said "that's it. Thanks."

A week prior, I saw Man Man and Cursive play at the same venue and for four hours, they regaled us with song and story; banter, jokes and kinetic movement along with their music. Blitzen Trapper played well, and that's all they did. It was extremely disappointing. I've heard from friends/acquaintances that they're actually fun to see, so it's possible they turned in a poor performance on that night. Regardless, I paid to see something rad, and I was disappointed. I won't be seeing them again.

Sad to hear that, Todd.

On the day that I turned 23
I was curled up underneath a dogwood tree
When suddenly a girl
Her skin the color of a pearl
She wandered aimlessly, but she didn't seem to see
She was listening for the angels just like me
So I stood and looked about
I brushed the leaves off of my snout
And then I heard my mother shouting through the trees
You should have seen that girl go shaky at the knees
So I took her by the arm
We settled down upon a farm
And raised our children up as gently as you please

Eh. Like I said, I'm willing to concede to the fact that it may have just been an off night. Whatever.

It is hard for me to know what to expect on the new album because Furr was pretty different from Wild Mountain Nation

They seem to enjoy changing their style up. I agree it's fairly unpredictable.

jbaseball44

I'd love an album of songs like 'Black River Killer' (aka a lot of wannabe Neil Young songs)

oddwithoutend
03/24/10, 09:12 PM
haha That would work for me. I'm willing to admit that this band shines most when they're willing to copy their inspirations.

jbaseball44
03/24/10, 09:13 PM
Yeah, with a lot of bands that is a major turn off but with them it comes across as endearing for whatever reason.

Yay for the new album soon. Not Your Lover is great. Pretty much the whole album puts me in a good mood.

Furr is one of my favorite albums and Saturday Nite is one of my favorites off the album. Furr the song is a very close second.
