Don't know what happened to the other thread.... Anyway, they just posted another new song from Good Views, Bad News for those who have held out on the leak. It's called "Tonight Is Alive" and it is fucking great. I'm planning on waiting until the 18th to get the new record but hearing this song is making me impatient. I'm sure I'll love it as much as the self/titled.

What the fuck is so bad about the new record?
Well, it's like they never stepped off the brakes. The album overall is way too slow and I'm not into it. The production is ultra slick, granted it was pretty slick on their self titled, this just comes off as super glossy. Every song is an anthem and all of them are following the same exact formula, that too is frustrating. All in all, it seems like a regression for them when they were the torchbearers for the revival of pop punk in that vein.

SwiftSilentDead
08/16/09, 09:03 PM
Fair enough. I haven't heard it yet so I can't comment on anything but the three songs I heard off it were great so I'm hoping the rest of it holds up. I'll probably love it anyway.

As an album, I actually do believe the new one is more cohesive and has better songwriting. I just like the songs on the S/T more. So, in a sense, I'm actually in line with him, if that makes sense at all.

Get over it. Let's not cry about someone putting out their opinion, albeit a negative one, about a band you like.

I will disagree and say that almost every song on the new album drags on too long, and is too slow, and all sound exactly the same. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus/some break with an anthemic line/slow part, then all coming back in together to close the song with one more chorus all sung together. There are a lot of songs I can just skip and never think about again.

SwiftSilentDead
08/19/09, 12:20 AM

This is what I'm wondering. A huge problem on this site lately is that people can't seem to handle other people not liking something they do. These threads aren't just for blow jockeys to suck off a band as hard as they can. Just because I am presenting a negative opinion on a band, and I present it aggressively doesn't mean I'm the fascist regime on this site forcing everyone to agree with my musical tastes. Please, please, please grow up and realize not everyone is trying to degrade you...I have better things to do.

I just figured out someone deleted the previous thread! Stupid.

I gotta agree that the album isn't as solid as their previous....some cheap lyrics and poor song arangment is my biggest fault with it. Could have been a tad poppier also, but honestly the S/T was so good and came out of no where that it would have been hard to match it on a follow up. This one will probably still make my best of list, as I love the band, but it will definitely be on the back half.

Only know a few songs, but I absolutely love seeing these guys live. Saw them at warped last year and I there were only like 3 other people watching. But I'm a fan for the fact that they didn't stop playing the whole time. They had a 30 minute set and they were going to make sure they played as many songs as possible. I respect that. Unlike bands like the All American Rejects who get a 40 minute set on mainstage and spend 20 minutes of it talking about pointless stuff and 20 minutes playing.

The emphasis is on "favorite," and certainly not "best" when it comes to my end of year lists. Those two albums grabbed me at just the right point in my life. Right music, right lyrics, right moment. That kind of thing.

Lucero barely cracked my Top 25, but the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Shook Ones, Frank Turner, Polar Bear Club, the Swellers, Nothington, Queen City Station, the Bouncing Souls, Heartsounds, and Teenage Bottlerocket all faired well, though.

And I still listen to most of those records regularly. Haven't touched Lucero's latest since, well, probably 2009. :shhh:

EDIT: Plus, it also helped that I'm pretty firmly rooted in that whole "pop-punk" thing, so...

i've only seen them a couple times, but i remember at fest thinking i was really surprised how good his vocals were. i feel like a lot of those songs are hard to carry live without a good backup singer. but honestly, i probably won't notice the difference besides that. i also feel like he wears the least tight pants of the three, which certainly works in his favor.

His back-up vocals were always spot on and he was the one in the band who brought the most to the table energy-wise. Of course, that's probably just because he wasn't always singing, y'know? But he always just played with all sorts of intensity.

He'll be missed. But, y'know? At least he wasn't one of the songwriters. That gives me hope for their future as a band...On a relatively unrelated note: I always felt like they'd be better with a second guitarist too.

They had a second guitarist when they recorded their first album but he left the band sometime in 2008.

I didn't think they would have member issues, though. I'm not sure what he meant by Matt's bass playing being "barely plausible," either. He's always spot on at shows and he gets really into it on stage. Maybe he's gotten lazy recently or something? Sucks that it was such a messy situation.

Unless you were in the van with us, you didn't know how it was. I'm sorry if you're upset, but Josh and I weren't ready to stop with BC.

This band is too fun and important to us, and I've been writing music with Josh since I was 15. I'm not about to stop anytime soon.

Sucks. I saw them just a couple months ago and they were fine.

Excited to see what the future brings for these guys though, I back them up

He was always the most into it. At least that's what it seemed to me. But I'm thinking maybe the bass thing had a bit to do with what the band may have wanted to do stylistically. I mean, the dude's from a hardcore background. Maybe they were going for more of a "rock" sound (and really--who would be shocked about that?) on this next record and he wasn't up to snuff.

Who knows. Again. Wasn't in the van. Haha. Either way, I'm curious to see where he winds up! And what Broadway Calls does to follow-up!

Is it sad I never knew A Rush and A Push was a cover until like last year?

I'm curious to hear what new bands he's in...I'd actually dig him on lead vocals on another project. Shrug. But...I'll still miss him. :-(

Yeah it'll be quite different without him.

I don't think it will be much different without Matt. Their are videos up from their recent shows in Tokyo and the new Bassist has decent vocals. Matt has an awesome voice, but it's pretty generic and easy enough to replace. I've seen these dudes 13 times and I am seeing them again in 3 weeks. They never disappoint and always have tons of energy and I doubt that will ever change. Some of the nicest dudes in the scene.

I got to meet Matt in person when BC played in Hartford last fall, definitely seemed like a stand-up dude and I will definitely support w/e future bands he's involved with....still kinda shocking though!

Rust Belt Lights (x Daggermouth / Dead Hearts)

Been cranking Good Views, Bad News an intense amount lately. Perfect album for the weather we're having here in SC. Nothing better than having the windows down and screaming these choruses out.

what do people think of the new song? not really liking it as much as anything from the last album but I think it's a demo so it could turn out better on the EP

Haven't heard the new song, but I saw Ty do an acoustic house show this last weekend. He played a new song that he said would be on the album. It was fantastic.

I wish they'd tour soon. I absolutely love Broadway Calls, but haven't seen them since Warped '08. I wish they'd hit up NYC or Long Island sometime again. Stoked to hear some new stuff. The last record didn't really grab me as much as the first did, although it was still great. I can't exactly say why it didn't grab me, but I'm more likely to throw on the first record. I'm hoping the new one has more of that charm.

The new EP is pretty good. It didn't impress me like their other stuff has, but it's still a quality collection of new BC songs, so it's all good. The production could be better, but it's not a big deal since it was more or less a DIY thing. I'm pretty stoked to see them in a few weeks. I'm astounded that they're actually playing my area. It's going to be awesome.

Definitely digging' the new E.P. As you guys said--it's a far rawer release, but it works for the songs. Stoked to see these songs live! And uh, kind of a side note but...Anybody else pick up a Bouncing Souls vibe on "Horizons and Histories?" Particularly with the heavy bass during the bridge...

Has anybody seen them on this tour yet? Set lists? Can't wait for Wednesday with the Flatliners and the Menzingers. Whee!

I'm hitting their tour up tomorrow, pretty stoked about it. I found a video from early on in the tour, and it looks like the setlist is:

Call It Off, Bad Intentions, Toxic Kids, Be All That..., Van Rides and High Tides, Fuck You Seattle, Basement Royalty, Back To Oregon, Suffer The Kids, Midnight Hour, To The Sheets, Save Our Ship.

No problem. I wish I could confirm it, but I showed up at the show tonight to find out they had trailor problems and couldn't make it. I'm bummed out and a little more poor than I was a few hours ago, haha.
