Following global sniping from hardcore gamers and ergonomic pedants, Sony has announced it’ll be scrapping the PS3 controller above – AKA the ‘control freak’ – and replacing it with a new design.

The banana-shaped effort above was widely panned for its obscene curvature and now its designers will return with a sequel at the E3 show in May.

The announcement was made by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide (SCEW) President Phil Harrison, who also revealed that the console will ship region-free.

As much as I would criticize it for not being new at all, the current PS2 controller would still work just fine. I like it.

I like it.They are not aloud to do the PS2 controller anymore, there was a lawsuit, and the deal was they had to change their design for the next generation (on top of a shit load of money paid off as well). So it will still be different from what the current design is.

I actually really like the Gamecube controller too. Except for the C-Stick.

I really liked the Gamecube controller. I thought it was the best-designed of the generation but my only gripe was the Z Button. Luckily it wasn't essential in most games.
