This is a quick review of the album. I'm not doing a full track review; instead I will go over the Highlights and Lowlights. Read the bold. And yes, I seriously mean that. http://muzikdizcovery.blogspot.com/
I'm not a huge fan of Cobra, but I have liked several songs on each album. Plus, after the major success of Good Girls Go Bad I was curious to see what the album would sound like. To be honest I'm not thrilled with it. Nice Guys Finish Last is a decent song. It's very electric and jumpy and is a pretty good opening to the album. Cobra even inserted a guitar solo in the bridge. After the guitar solo there's a weird call and response part with a female voice. The more I listen to this song I can see it's pretty catchy. This might be one of the ones I like. Pete Wentz Is The Only Reason We're Famous was the first song released long before Good Girls Go Bad came out. This song instantly became a song I liked a lot. The chorus is extremely catchy with great hooks. This song could and should be the second single off the album. It's less electric than many of their other songs while still being just as catchy as the others. Everyone knows Good Girls Go Bad. I see no point reviewing it, however I do have something to say. I know many people are angry that this song went popular. Who cares? Like the music for the music. Not for the popularity of it. Don't hate the band just because they sell out. If you still like the music, keep liking it. If they change it so you don't like it, move on. Don't hate. You're Not In On The Joke is a song that I actually like. The chorus is extremely catchy with "T-t-t-t-t-tongue in my cheek" as a great hook. The lyrics throughout the whole song flow extremely well. This song stood out to me from the first listen. That's important to me. Those songs are usually the ones that turn out to be the best. The bridge is very unusual in which there are screams. Rumors say that it's Pete Wentz. The song then continues with only a piano accompanyment. Hot Mess is a song that grew on me over time. I originally thought it was pretty bad, but the chorus definitely won me over. The catchy hooks along with the background bongo drums created a great club-rock song. Living In The Sky With Diamonds stood out to me with the name as being similar to the Beatles song. The chorus doesn't sound like anything that Cobra has done. The last song, The World Will Never Do, is absolutely terrible. The beat reminds me of a bad song in the background during a porno. Yes, I seriously just said that. They even threw a rap part in at the end. I can't imagine why they would do that. It did nothing to make this lousy song any better.

A few of the songs are catchy and ok, not an album I'll likely be listening to beyond this week.

I haven't listened to them since their first album and felt like giving them another earnest shot.
Mostly was curious about the "The Scene Is Dead; Long Live The Scene", which is the only song I actually like a lot off this.

Ehh...I don't know. I basically just did a quick review based on the songs that really stood out. Positively or negatively. That one I can't even remember.

I was expecting more from it. I listened to it with an extremely biased opinion, though, so that played a major role in my disappointment. I thought "Living In the Sky With Diamonds" was rather catchy. The remainder of the album was expectedly trivial.

I'm fairly certain that was an intentional misspelling.

I have yet to see anyone in any thread mention liking this album. Most people went in pretty pessimistically anyway.

I suppose my expectations were based off of anamericangod's liking of the song -- which, in case you weren't aware, was titled by the name of one of his blogs -- so I assumed I would find it catchy myself. I didn't.

i liked their first album a bit, and then their second one was bad in a way that i somehow still found enjoyable, and i love that cd - it's my "i listen to this when i don't want to think about shit and just have fun" cd. but this, this is so bad. i was expecting a viva la cobra part two, tongue in cheek ridiculousness that is kind of enjoyable, but i can't really listen to anything on this album. maybe it will grow on me? probably not since i have no motivation to listen to it again. :(

I disagree. I can't really say I like the album because it's not what I listen to at all, but that song in itself is catchy as hell. I understand I'm biased, but the chorus is beyond addictive.

In all fairness, I only gave the song one chance to be as catchy as I had envisioned. My expectations were a bit distorted -- I was picturing something more fast-paced and lyrically engaging.
Im going to say what I said in the other thread.
This CD sounds half assed, even for cobra starships standards.
And britney spears should sue them for everything they have so they cant make anymore shitty music.

By the way, new album take up. My friend has her own blog and a definite different writing style from me. We exchanged articles so here's her take. http://muzikdizcovery.blogspot.com/2009/08/hot-mess-review-by-turn-yourself-on.html Rest in the link.
Cobra Starship’s third studio album “Hot Mess” remains similar to their previous albums in that the album ends in fluff.
“Nice Guys Finish First” begins the album with strong percussion as well as a strong chorus that makes the track stand out and invites you to enjoy the rest of the album. Unfortunately, the following track, “Pete Wentz Is The Only Reason We’re Famous” blends right into it. While it is a catchy song and is great as a stand-alone, it does not bring anything to the album in context.
Everyone has head “Good Girls Go Bad” at least once by now. While some are disappointed by it, I actually really enjoy. The addition of Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester is surprisingly refreshing as she has a stronger voice than I am sure anyone would have expected. The song is probably the most upbeat on the album and I anticipate it is being played at a lot of dance parties at the moment and will continue to be well into the fall.
