oberst is a way better lyricist, jesse is a way better vocalist, and kensrue is like in between the two, but hes more consistent than jesse both in lyrics and vocals.

i think im gonna go with oberst though, given that hes the most artistic of the bunch. however, if you put teppei instead of dustin, HE would be the most artistic.

Can't connect to Lacey's lyrics at all.
I love Oberst's lyrics, but they don't hit me like the universal genius wunderkind that everyone says he is.

Dustin's great and seems more down to earth and relatable.
I think his poetry and narratives also just speak more than the others overall.

While I agree that Oberst is a fantastic lyricist, you can't tell someone else that they're kidding themselves just because their definition of "best" doesn't match yours. Also, maybe they voted for Lacey or Kensrue because they don't listen to Bright Eyes.

well, of course my statement was a little harsh, but that was to give it effect. i strongly believe that oberst is WAY better than these other two. so if i had made a comment simply saying "oberst" or something of the like, i feel like it wouldn't have done him justice. i wouldn't argue with somebody over preference. but when a person makes a comment, you can automatically know that it is a matter of the opinion of the commenter.

for the record, i like the other two bands. i just feel like lyrics are what keep conor in the business.

We all know Jesse will most likely win this vote on AP. There are way too many fanboys on here. While I consider myself a fan of Brand New, the amount of hype and obsession over that band on this site is just ridiculous. While Jesse is a great songwriter in his own right, a lot of his lyrics are very angry and he just comes across as being egotistical sometimes.

Conor is (was?) definitely an amazing songwriter. His newer material is nowhere near as good, but listen to "Lifted Or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground" era Bright Eyes and you cannot deny that's some badass songwriting.

oberst used to be much better (lifted, and his first solo album come to mind), but cassadega and outer south were trash, lyrically. he went all metaphysical on me.
lacey writes some phenomenal lyrics, but the man is far too inconsistant (see degausser: "my life is a test and i get bad marks," immediately followed by "now some saint got the job of writing down my sins") to be considered a "great" lyricist (though if he were on all the time, he'd get my vote).
