"Liberal Rednecks"

As a pretty left-centric person, I was talking to my friend the other day about how many people who follow my same ideologies often make over-arching ill-informed blanket statements that cause me to shudder. It was then that I coined the term "liberal redneck". This term applies all the ill-informed, dumb statements you hear from normal rednecks, only these statements apply to left/democratic points of view.

Some examples can be:

"All healthcare should be FREE, man"
"Make love, not war"

All statements I agree with to a point, but not in such an oversimplified way. I was curious if any of you fellow democrats/liberals come across these types of people who cause our kind some form of embarrassment. Feel free to share your stories.

What's wrong with free healthcare? Seems to work pretty well so long as people keep smoking (the NHS makes most of its dosh from *** tax)
I'd love an end to all war but, well, people are idiots but some of the aforementioned idiots invented technology used for blowing up other idiots. So its not gonna happen. On the plus side, it means we have less idiots.

This is so incorrect it is not even funny, because at least in Appalachia, these liberal rednecks also support unions and are very very heavily Democratic. Heck, West Virginia had, if I'm not mistaken, more members of the Socialist Party as mayors than any other state.

there's a difference between being Liberal and being a Democrat. Same as there's a difference between being Conservative and being a Republican. The words are not interchangeable, yet people say being a Conservative means one is a Republican, not always true.

On another note, most 1st world nations have "Universal Health Care". Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Basically all of Europe, India, etc. The only reason America doesn't have it is because they care more for money than people. I would be wary to fight for a country that has that type of mentality.

In extension, what's wrong with doctors, without question and precondition and need for payment, fulfilling their moral duty having uttered the Hippocratic Oath to simply ensure my health? The medical field has became too income-oriented. What happened to doing the right thing? I think they deserve compensation, I don't think they deserve to be overly compensated.

If doctors didn't get paid well, our medical system might be more like our education system. If people are going to go through all that schooling, and all the hard work to become a doctor, they want some pay-off. Is that wrong? Arguably.
