I personally have always heard the 80's was the age that film had died, mostly from my brother, he is a tough critic though, but I'm still on the edge on what I think.

I would say the 80's put out amazing movies. Especially comedies. I would also say that movies started to die in the comedy genre (since I've already mentioned it, around 1995 or 1996). Granted there have been funny movies since then, I'm saying the formula and script writing that made early 90's movies was completely altered at that point.

You all put out really interesting perspectives.........

Batman (classic)
The Burbs (hilarious)
Child's Play (Chucky is the shit)
Christine (classic lesson not to mistreat a '58 Fury)
Less Than Zero (I'm a BEE Fangirl)
License to Drive (funny)
Police Academy (hilarious x2)
The Rachel Papers (good)
Real Genius (Good)
Scarface (I don't like it, but many do)
The Shining (classic classic)
Uncle Buck (John Candy is muy funny)
WarGames (good)

The 80's had some of the greatest comedians in film:

John Candy
Dan Akroyd
Chevy Chase

...others.

Back to the Future

I mean, COME ON.

Pretty much what I came here to say, how can 80s movies be bad if Back to the Future came from that decade? Also to whoever said Breakfast Club, good call. And isn't Die Hard from the 80s too? I'm sure there are tons of great 80s movies.

But if he's talking from a technical oscar winning movie standpoint, Die Hard and Back to the Future won't hold up. I love both movies but the time travel in Back to the Future could have been written by a third grader. Sooooo many paradoxes got overlooked. And Die Hard is just kind of silly at times.
Nothing bad to say about The Breakfast Club though.

of course not!!!

AIRPLANE! and THE PRINCESS BRIDE were made in the 80s. two of my favorite movies. i love them so much, i had to uselessly capitalize their titles.

however, "ghost" only missed the 80s by one year, so be wary.

Man, the '80s was the golden age of film making. Pretty much every movie cliche about high school come from the movies from the decade, which were the originals. The '80s got almost everything right, in terms of cinema, with very few exceptions

i think its a fun decade, but i dont think its a very substantial decade, not that that is a bad thing or anything. a lot of their popular movies were just straight-up fun, growing-up flicks, and while i don't really consider them film classics, i still consider them good movies.
