"Republicans are ... inclined to say that the allegations have received too little attention," the poll reports (http://people-press.org/report/533/many-fault-media-coverage-of-health-care). "Nearly four-in-ten Republicans (39%) express this view, while 27% say they have received the right amount of attention and 26% say they have gotten too much attention.
Can't do anything but lol

To all the birthers out there: you may have this mechanical box in your house with a keyboard in front of it. This is called a computer. Say it with me, com-pew-ter. If you have one, it is incredibly likely that you have access to the Internet too. Though it's also likely you call it "The Internets". Here on the Webz there is a magical engine of searching called "The Google". The Google allows you to type in keywords in order to find information or pictures. So that means that if you type in "obama birth certificate hawaii" on Google image search, you'll probably find a picture of Barack Obama's certificate of live birth, which can be used in court in place of a birth certificate.

See? Was that so hard?

caveBEAR
08/06/09, 11:26 PM
They don't have a tangible birth certificate due to the circumstances of his birth in Hawaii or something. People will believe what they want to, just best to ignore them, much like 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

Misleading thread title. You mean 39% of Republicans polled want more coverage. Only 13% more that those polled that say it has received too much coverage.

It's quite rare that Huffington Post is more accurate than a thread title here. Unbelievable.

Hence why I put the quote to clarify. It's not like I put 'All Republicans Want More Birther Coverage'.

I find it distressing that people want any coverage at all of these idiots, especially AFTER they found the birth records.

You still threw up an alarmist and over the top headline to gain attention.

why not point out the 30% of independents that think there hasn't been enough coverage? Or even the 14% of democrats that think there hasn't been enough?

Because that wouldn't be nearly as fun right?

edit: I hardly think a sample size of 1000 people is enough for you to say "Repubs want more birther coverage".

Depends on the normality of the sampling distribution and whether the survey actually measures what it intends to measure, you can get a pretty representative sample from as low as 100 people

Well I apologize for not including the 39% in the headline, but I wouldn't exactly call it alarmist/over the top. I think "Pelosi Called People Like Me a Nazi" is a more apt example haha.

As for those stats, I didn't originally follow through to the actual poll. I simply read the article and found it quite funny considering the birth certificate was brought to the public's attention not long ago. Now that I've seen them, I've added them to the original post.

But yes, you're right, it wouldn't be as funny, because although the Republican party is composed of reasonable people ( I'm assuming like yourself?), there are far too many idiots - like birthers - who come off as bitter fools desperately trying to salvage the election.

What happened to the original certificate? Was it lost or something? Obama won't talk about it- he wants people to keep talking about it so democrats can call anyone who brings it up crazy. Couldn't someone have easily forged a certificate of live birth for someone who supports Obama's ideology? What if he actually had the thing but he doesn't want to show it so he can use it as a political strategy? I wouldn't put anything past him or Rahm Emmanuel. Honestly, it doen't matter if he's a citizen or not. He got elected and there is too much on the line for the democratic party and the country if somehow he wasn't legally a citizen. It's not like we can count on the news nowadays anyway, none of it is objective.

While Rahm Emmanuel certainly is the shadiest figure to grace washington since Karl Rove, I don't think he could orchestrate something as elaborate as you suggest.

Seriously. Get over it. If you believe this, I bet you also believe that 9/11 was an inside job and we didn't land on the moon.

I think our president is legitimate, but what does it hurt to ask questions? I don't think that Obama is a secret Muslim out to get us or anything like that. And you won't ever silence free speech as much as you'd like to. You fucking liberals think you can throw an entire group of people into one category just to make you look like you have all the answers because we can't if everyone thinks we're all crazy. It's just a stupid strategy to move your agendas forward. That much is obvious. I never claimed that Obama wasn't a citizen to begin with. I just can't stand the political games being played right now. Obama campaigned that he was above that- it was a fucking lie. I know there are people that want him out of office now and use the birther bullshit to try and make it happen, but I say let's give him three more years to fuck up the country and then let the people decide.

Barack Obama could have been delivered by JFK himself on film on August 4. 1961 and the Republicans would have found something to bitch about. The Republicans have themselves to thank for getting Obama elected, though. They elected Bush twice and fielded two awful candidates in the general elections.

And the Democrats need to put this down now. We all saw what happened to John Kerry in '04 when he just chuckled off the Swiftboat slanders.

Not saying this is the case, but depending on how you word the question you can get the answers that you are looking for (in this case, showing how America is stupid).

Here we are.

Q4 Do you think Barack Obama was born in the
United States? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2.
If you’re not sure, press 3.
Yes ........................ .54%
No.......................... .26%
Not Sure................. .20%

Q5 Do you consider Hawaii to be part of the United
States? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2. If
you’re not sure, press 3.
Yes ................................... .............................. 92%
No................................. .................................. 5%
Not Sure............................... ........................... 3%

This doesn't show Republicans specifically, but NC as a whole. I can't find the Republican-specific survey question. I think you could safely say it would be much higher, though (Q4, not Q5).

Here's a PDF of the entire survey.
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_NC_811424.pdf

edit: Here's the stat for Republicans, although I can't figure out where they got it from.

Among North Carolina Republicans, a 47% plurality -- nearly a full majority -- say Obama was not born in America. Only 24% of state Republicans say he was born here, with 29% not sure.

It gets better, with PPP asking this question: "Do you consider Hawaii to be part of the United States?" Here it's 92% saying yes, 5% saying no, and 3% not sure. Among Republicans, 88% say Hawaii is a part of America, to 7% who say it is not, and 4% aren't sure.

That question was worded fairly simply. I don't understand how anyone can misunderstand it. When I try to poke holes in it, I think maybe the word "consider" implies inputting the respondent's feelings about Hawaii; instead of asking "Is Hawaii part of the US?", "Do you consider Hawaii to be part of the US?" holds a somewhat different implication. However that really is no excuse to answer "no" or "not sure."

Hm. That question is far different than what you posted before. People may not consider hawaii to be part of the US because it isn't part of the continental United States.

"consider" leaves a lot open to interpretation. A far better question would have been a direct "Is hawaii a state?".

edit:: in response to you trying to poke holes thru it and that "considering" is denying Hawaii's existence (as Mercy Medical put it), I think you're both wrong here. It could simply mean "Hey man, Hawaii is so far out in the pacific ocean, I don't even consider it part of the United States"
