View Full Version : Would you go to a show alone?

So maybe it does depend on the band. But that's not an option.

i dont see why not

there are bands i would kill to see live that some of my friends might not want to go with me to, so yeah i would go alone

it's really not so bad. ive even gone to "festivals" alone, which mind you if I didn't have a camera I wouldve been very lonely :(. So of course I would since it's hard to find friends that share my exact taste in music, and have the funds to support it too. Especially if you're going for a single band. Try and time it and show up 5-10 minutes before the band comes on, and boom you're knee-deep in mosh pit and you don't care if anyone's around you.

it's MORE fun to go to festivals/long shows with people, because the in between times can get borring. Unless you're suave and like to hit on middle school girls...then you'll have plenty to do.

I may be forced to do this for the Gaslight Anthem show. It's such a shame that none of my friends know them.

I've seen one band alone and that's because they are my favorite band and I was overseas. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. So if the situation arises, yes.

I go to shows alone all the time because my friends have shitty music tastes

nellbelle
08/07/09, 01:22 PM
I got to most shows alone. My friends either don't like the same music as me or are too cheap to shell out the cash for their own tickets. I've made some cool single serving friends by being willing to just go it alone and talk to the people that are there.

queenofcrouton
08/07/09, 03:34 PM
Definitely. I've been to a bunch of shows alone.

Chop[chop]
08/07/09, 03:34 PM
If there's nobody else to go with, it's reasonably local, and I'm really into the band, I don't see the problem with it.
If I could I'd always go to a show with somebody though.

Probably not, only because most shows around my area are in shitty Boston/Massachusetts and there's no way in hell I'm going in alone.

When I was 14 I went to Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution alone, and I would seriously do it again.
And I dont really have a lot of friends that share the same musical taste that I do

I almost had to the other night because two friends said they were going to go. One bailed and the other was on the fence but ended up going.

andthetruthwill
08/08/09, 10:11 PM
I got to a lot of shows alone for several reasons. One, most of my friends don't listen to anything I listen to. Second, I don't like being responsible for anyone. Nothing kills show excitement faster than someone whining that this or that band sucks, when they were excited for them before or bitching that they are tired of standing and further blah blahs. Going by myself is fruitful because I can walk around and go where I want, and I often end up talking to show friends that I see every time, or meeting a girl or other new people.

Undue Noise
08/09/09, 04:52 AM
I've only been to one show on my own, and I met people who are now some of my best friends. So based upon that experience, I probably would go alone, if necessary.

Theseventhson
08/09/09, 06:29 PM
Yeah, the only person I ever really go to shows with is my girlfriend anyway, and sometimes she's not able.

tonyC4L
08/10/09, 02:46 AM
Done it many times. If the band's good, then you'll have fun no matter what. Occasionally I'll ask people to come to shows with me just for the sake of company and end up wishing I'd gone by myself because they're not as into it as I am. This one time I saw The Bouncing Souls and brought this girl with me who I just met and was sorta into, and she said she liked punk so I thought it would be cool. Turns out her definition of punk was way off and she didn't like them, so I felt bad about ditching her to mosh when I should have had a great fucking time.

A week ago I ended up going to see Silversun Pickups/Manchester Orchestra alone because my friends ended up not being able to go. It wasn't that bad. I prefer going to shows with friends, but I'll still go alone if I really want to see the band(s) and I'm familiar with the venue.

It was an awesome set. They only played 3 new songs I think but they sounded great. I just can't get enough of their jams!

ApricotChick
08/10/09, 04:13 PM
Yeah. I actually prefer going to a show alone. You're going to get seperated in the crowd anyways, so I don't really care. It gives me more time to do the things I want to do.

If I'm really into a band, I'll go alone because all my friends are really apathetic towards music (or afraid to look happy at shows, I'm not quite sure yet).

08/11/09, 09:53 AM
I've gone to plenty of shows alone. That's what happens when friends don't have good taste in music. It can be a little awkward between bands, but I'm there for the music and not a social experience.

08/11/09, 02:24 PM
I'm glad people don't think it's creepy, haha. I'm seeing Blink in a few days, and nobody's going with me

ElevenElm

depending on the band/crowd, we could end up getting separated anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

xsinkshipsx
08/11/09, 07:49 PM
i like it more unless you go with someone who like REALLY likes the band they are seeing....don't have to worry about anyone but yourself

gphatx
08/11/09, 09:55 PM
I prefer it. I tend to zone in completely on the band(s) when I'm at shows anyway, so I'm not very companionable when I do go with my friends. Or we end up splitting for whatever reason: the pit, etc.

I went to see Anberlin last fall alone, and I made some really good friends in line. Win, win.

brit182
08/12/09, 08:40 PM
Yeah I've seen Jesse Lacey and Jack's Mannequin by myself. I'm probably going to have to for Say Anything. It sucks to wait in line but once the show starts it's not bad.

heyguys123
08/13/09, 12:06 AM
yeah, i probably wouldnt go to a show with seats by myself, but that doesnt really come up ever. but i dont get why people wouldnt go to a show alone. i just hang out at the bar, after a few vodka drinks ill have made friends anyway. im curious, people who dont go to shows alone, are you guys also hung up about going to movies, eating lunch out, etc. alone? i just dont get it. sometimes your friends are busy, why be a hermit?

BottomsUp
08/13/09, 09:00 PM
It'd be my second choice, but yeah i would. Really don't see the big deal out of it. If i truly love a band enough i wouldnt even care. I usually always make friends with people in line, during set up change ect..people tend to be really friendly at concerts haha well atleast the ones i've gone to they are! :)

blinkme
08/14/09, 01:52 AM
i usually just buy my friends a ticket if they don't really know the band. then they can't lose. but if i couldn't find someone to go with then yes, i would go by myself.

08/19/09, 10:14 AM
All the time.

I went to the Clarity Tempe date alone and met some of the coolest people there. (Fellow APer Bradsonemanband)

I actually drove 3 hours to Tucson to see Manchester alone. Then again the next day.

Being alone allows you to talk to new people and it lets you go talk to the bands after the show and not just have someone awkwardly standing there on the side listening.

ManchesterOrch8
08/19/09, 10:15 AM
Oh, and I went to the Jesse & Kevin acoustic tour last summer alone, I had two tickets, but I REALLY didn't want to go with someone that didn't understand what it meant to be there, in such a small venue, being RIGHT THERE.

So I sold the ticket, and stood right on the rails.

Ari Christos
08/19/09, 02:59 PM
Sure, I don't see why not. It's normally a good opportunity to meet people in your area with similar tastes. If it's a band you like, go see em. I'd rather go with friends, though.

NateGolubiewski
08/19/09, 05:26 PM
Been to plenty of shows/festivals alone. Just because you're not going with someone you already know, that doesn't mean you can't meet some cool people that you don't know to hang out with there.

I had to go to Warped alone yesterday because all my friends are little school boys and didn't want to ditch. Needless to say, I had a great time and they didn't. In a way, I'm glad I went alone, because I got to do what I wanted to do and a lot of cool stuff happened that probably wouldn't have if my friends would have been there. I wouldn't have saw Love Hate Hero and gotten a drumstick. I wouldn't have stood in line to have A Day To Remember sign my shoe. I wouldn't have been in the front row for Hit The Lights and gotten a chance to talk with Nick after the show. So, going to a show alone isn't all that bad.
